The New York Yankees under Joe Torre from 1996 to 2007 won 4 World Series championships (1996, 1998-2000), 6 American League championships (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003), 10 American League East titles (1996, 1998-2006), 12 consecutive playoff appearances (1996-2007).
Despite the winning, the Torre-led Yanks lost postseason games as well. Some of their most horrible losses include 1997 (Cleveland), 2002 (Anaheim) and 2004 (famous Boston)
What do you think was the most horrible losses of the Torre-led Yankees era until the Yankees and Torre parted ways?
Hard to see how they could top the 2004 ALCS. They were leading three games to none, ***and ***leading 4-3 in the top of the ninth of Game Four.
Unlike, say, Houston blowing a 35-3 football lead over Buffalo in the 1992 football playoffs in one hour’s time, this wasn’t just one choke, that was a consistent, unbroken streak of choking over multiple days (yes, different sports, but you get my point).
That being said, I am not exactly sympathetic to the Yanks, so…
Why would you start a discussion describing Yankees losses of the Torre Era as"horrible"? I didnt feel that way so none of them were. Your user name plus yet another recital of YANKEES RINGZZ is also unusual outside of a NYY brag board, which this is not.
The Great Choke of 2004 the only reasonable choice, of course. I’m not sure that even losing a World Series that way would be more devastating, as the Yankees could never play the Red Sox in a WS. As a life-long Yankee hater, that was one of most satisfying losses I’ve ever seen, especially as the Red Sox went on to finally beat the curse of the Bambino. (Since then, however, I’ve come to hate the Sox almost as much as I do the Yankees, so…)
I would like to echo robardin, too: This is not your personal Yankees message fan board. You have started a lot of threads specific to the Yankees (which isn’t wrong, but it’s not a NYY club.) The only other Doper who does that is Airman Doors, USAF with his Steelers-Marching-to-the-Super-Bowl thread each year, and even then, that is only one thread each year.
