What gives with the Nation of Islam suddenly becoming a major presence in the MJ spectacle? What’s in it for them? What’s in it for MJ?
I’m so flabbergasted by this development that I don’t even have a theory to kick things off with. I guess for MJ it’s somehow an endorsement of his blackness – heh. The problem is, it seems more likely to offend his white constituency than to attract a new black constituency.
For the Nation of Islam – a show of standing up for a persecuted black man? Yikes. How does that parse, exactly?
Could someone explain this whole development to me, please?
There’s an article about it in the Guardian, written by the paper’s ethnic issues staff writer (who is black). According to “an associate and friend”, Jackson is on the ropes and will do any damn thing to get out of it; however, he’s opened a can of worms by getting involved with the Nation of Islam, who are now effectively controlling the entire trial and publicity. The source for the allegations isn’t named, unfortunately.
A lot of famous people and organizations are risking their name on the belief that MJ really is going to be found innocent.
Personally, signs point to him doing “inappropriate” things with children as defined by society, but to him, he was just being a kid with them. He doesn’t seem to be very emotionally stable or mature and his worldview must be pretty damn skewed when you look at his life. He vehemently believes he is innocent but whether that was legally true or not is another matter altogether. :o
