Let me clarify: black people who think the only reason Michael Jackson is on trial is because white people don’t like to see rich black people are stupid. Fucking morons in fact. I’ve heard about a dozen black people interviewed on radio about the trial and every one of them has espoused some variation on the theme that if MJ were poor and/or white he wouldn’t be being “persecuted.” More than one invoked OJ.
Yeah, I remember that episode of South Park too. Who would have thought that there were people out there who actually believed it? Don’t these idiots think that, if White America were really so terrified of black people with money that Oprah would’ve been led away in shackles years ago?
Yes, I am aware that my sample size is small. Yes I am sure there were plenty of black people interviewed whose contrary comments didn’t make air. Not pitting them, just the lackwits who believe in their hearts that MJ is on trial for being rich and black.
Since when has Michael Jackson been black? Have any of those people you cite seen a picture of MJ? He clearly has been scampering away from his race and his gender as fast as he can for lo these many years.
What’s ironic about black people rabidly defending Simpson and Jackson is that both OJ Simpson and Michael Jackson strive to be white or be around “white culture”. Simpson, for instance, married a white woman and basically only hung around rich white people.
I have a feeling that, based on the title alone, this thread is gonna end up in a trainwreck, but I’ll just comment that I was under the impression that Mr. Jackson, if he is being persecuted, is being persecuted for being rich and weird, not for being rich and black.
For the record, on the local black talk radio station that I listen to when none of the NPR stations are playing ATC or Morning Edition, all the hosts were pretty much making fun of him.
After a news segment that featured audio of all the Jacko fans waiting outside the courthouse when he made his appearence, the host said “I’m trying to figure out if they’re screaming because, you know, he’s Michael Jackson, and they love him, or he’s Michael Jackson, and they’re afraid he’s gonna touch them.”
Anyone of any ethnicity or skin color who defends Michael Jackson is stupid. There sure seem to be quite a lot of delusional fans of his that are white as well.
Holy Smeg, but your title is misleading and inciting. I’d seen your posts before, and didn’t think it could really mean what a literal interpretation would insist it means, but my gosh! Expect to be castigated for it.
As for the subject at hand, yeah, you’re gonna have that small percentage of folks who believe in something like ‘My color, right or wrong!’ Is it right? Is it wrong? Can’t say. There may be such a thing as institutionalized racism, but it’s my belief that in many cases, a big factor is a form of paranoia.
For the kneejerk crowd, note that I have taken great care in my wording, so as to avoid ruling out the views/beliefs of one side or the other. Fence-sitter? I’d like to think that rational adults can see both sides.
I’ve been following the Fametracker thread on him, which is hilarious in its snark. Strange as it may sound, CEMJ (crazy, evil Michael Jackson) is probably not as crazy as his fans. One woman quit her job of 14 years to spend time at the courthouse supporting him. Seven girls from Norway (or was it Sweden, I can’t remember) flew in to support him.
It’s pro forma, isn’t it? MJ is guilty, he just hasn’t been formally convicted for what it is painfully obvious he has been doing. This should be a slam dunk for the CA prosecutor’s office. (Of course, I said that about OJ, too, so don’t go by me.)
I read this article about the trial at cnn.com. It says they are still in jury selection. If Jackson is pleading guilty or no-contest why are they having jury selection?
