One problem with interpreting the original Hebrew passage in Genesis is the conflation of the meanings of the words “big” or “great”- apparently a widely cross-cultural usage. We speak of a “big” man to mean either that he’s tall, or that he’s a man of great achievments or importance. It can even mean “fat” as in the German gross. Or for that matter, maybe the original tale was meant to imply that they were well-hung. That would certainly explain the daughters of men marrying so many of them.
Knowing absolutely nothing about physics except the physics of computer keyboards and how to do a Google search for “period planet squared equals semimajor axis cubed”, I come up with this:

Answers for Exam #2
Kepler found from observations that the orbit period (in years) squared equals the orbit semimajor axis (in A.U) cubed.

From Kepler’s Third law, (harmonic law), the square of the sidereal period is proportional to the cube of its semimajor axis (one-half of the major axis).
Is the BA not correct? What about Kepler?
And, while searching for “Kepler’s third law”, I got hopelessly sidetracked by this. “When the animation is stopped, drag the satellites to change their distance from the sun.” More fun than punching the monkey…
I love the Internet.

My high-school physics teacher would ding you for that statement. Units, please?
Actually, as is clear from reading the sentence in my post previous to the one you quoted, the units are years and AU. Otherwise, the “equals” sign needs to be replaced with a “proportional to” sign.
Also, JWK, the evidence for a real Noah’s flood is very slim. The Black Sea flood has been used a lot by Biblical interpreters, but there is still little support that it is the flood described in the Bible. There are copious pages about this on the web. Try www.talkorigins.org.
And Duck^2 Goose, Kepler and I are both correct: that’s cuz I am quoting him. Period § squared equals semimajor axis (a) cubed, if measured in years and AU, respectively. This was actually known before the length of the AU was finally measured! It took a while for that length to be determined, and the distance to the planets finally calculated.

Well, it is clear that the Tigris and Euphrates flooded every so often – the archaeological record of mud is pretty clear. All it would take is one of these floods to be way larger than normal – we’d take the “whole earth” being flooded as a dramatic exaggeration, but the whole region could have been flooded. The notion that your small area is the “whole earth” is not unique to the Bible; you’ll recall Alexander the Great crying because he had conquered “the whole world.”
