If you want to see what’s on the horizon, check this out.-41 new shows, and at least three of them have to do with messin’ with time. It looks like MacGyver is being rebooted, which might work.
A few that looked interesting:
Making History
Timeless
Powerless
The Blacklist: Redemption
Emerald City
Mostly they sound stupid. But there was a sitcom with Joel McHale and Stephen Fry, so I’ll try that. And there’s another show starring Ted Danson? Has he ever been off the air?
Alert Patty and Selma at once.
Yes. (But never for more than a year, and only twice over a 42 year period.)
The McGyver I definitely intend to watch. The star looks a bit like Anderson and as I remember the show, it was more about the gimmicks than about the star, anyway.
Most reboots I don’t bother with.
Bob
I loved “Frequency”, the movie. Hope the show is good. Half will be gone in six months.
I actually like the promo for The Good Place, if for nothing other than the line “Condescending Bench.”
For me, I’d give Midnight, Texas, Pitch, Downward Dog and Trial and Error a shot. However, I’m sure The Exorcist will suck. And I’ll probably watch it too.
Laverne Cox was set to be in a new lawyer series Doubt. Could be interesting.
But then then two things happened:
They brought in two new co-stars, one of whom is Katherine Heigl.
They re-shot the pilot to deal with the above.
When a network does this sort of stuff, you know the show is DOA.
(I know, I know. There are exceptions. E.g., The Big Bang Theory. But it’s usually a bad sign.)
I dunno about a series based on Harris new “Midnight, Texas” books. I didn’t find the first two very engaging. What I’d like to see is a Grave Sight series - less well known, but sort of an X-Files/Supernatural/CSI vibe - the books about Harper Connelly, a psychic who can sense dead bodies and their cause of death. She and her step-brother travel all over the country (mostly small towns) consulting. One of the characters in Midnight series (Manfred Bernardo) was a recurring character in the Grave Sight books.
Some of these sounded hilarious, as if they were fake. I like to think that they come up with snappy titles first and then try to fit a show into the title.
I was interested in about 1/3 of them. If they make it to air, I will check them out!
First of all, he’s an actor, and he’s not much of an actor.
No sign of the ‘Agents of Shield’ spinoff with Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter?
that was reported dead weeks ago.
I’ll DVR a few of those, just to see how bad they really are. The ones I find mildly interesting are:
American Housewife
Kevin Can Wait
The Great Indoors*
Son of Zorn
Making History
Timeless
Powerless*
-
- I am actually looking forward to these.
I have absolutely zero interest in any of the straight drama, medical shows, procedurals, etc.
I like Once Upon a Time, so Emerald City may be worth a look.
I want to reboot someone with a baseball bat, then swing it at the fish out of water.
The only ones that look interesting are ‘Powerless’ and ‘Midnight, Texas’.
I like Joel McHale, I like him a lot. I loved him in Community and I liked his work on The Soup when I saw it (which, I admit, was not frequently). He was also born the same year that I was.
He’s now in a sitcom that seems to be all about “Those kids these days”
Damn it all to hell.
I can simplify this: "They brought in Katherine Heigl…
…you know the show is DOA."
She is the kiss of death. And horrible to work with, besides.
