The New Zoo Revue, Your Thoughts?

It’s the New Zoo Revue comin’ right achooo (Gesundheit!)

I haven’t seen this show in ages, but I still think that Doug is the Mack Daddy. Doug was a legendary exemplar of dork/genius chic, long before most of the world had heard of Weird Al Yankovic.

As if it weren’t enough to have the star power of Doug, this show also had Emmy Jo AND Charlie the Owl AND Henrietta Hippo AND Freddie the Frog.

The only think that sucked about this show was that it was cancelled. NZR FOREVER, BABY!!!

er. My problem with this show:

The theme song is the kind that sticks in your head. I have not seen the show in probably twelve years and the theme still gets stuck in my head.

As it is now. After reading this thread title! Erg!

Don’t worry. It will be on cable soon enough.

Signing off! (humming “coming right at choo! Where three delightful animals, have fun with what they do”)

Oh, I had such a crush on Emmy Jo, with all those pleated miniskirts and go-go boots. And I’m talking just last week, not when I was a kid.

Henrietta disturbed me in ways I haven’t fully recovered from yet. Something to do with smothering.

I loved this show as a child and I remember having the NZR coloring book and everything. One of our local public access channels here runs it in the morning every so often. I happened to stumble across it recently and was appalled at how horrible it was. I could hardly make it through 10 minutes, much less the whole show. Kid’s programming has REALLY come a long way!

You are obviously taking VERY heavy drugs.

Not that that’s a bad thing.

Like voguevixen I chanced across this show when I was surfing really early one morning. Funny thing is that it was on EWTN, which is the "Christian Network.

It really was awful, thou I can see why it would appeal to fairly young kids.

My sister gave me a NZR video for Christmas last year. Watching it, I was reminded of my vague childhood fear that Henrietta might eat me.

Oh, and Charlie was an insufferable ass.

My best recollection of this show is that Freddie was an early prototype for the really dumb turtle on that “Greg the Bunny” show on Fox. Now, if you want to get me going on classic children’s no-budget television, we need to talk about The Magic Garden. Where are those two ladies now, I wonder? Not to mention Sherlock the Squirrel, or the individual flowers that togther made up the Giggle Patch.

70s: New Zoo Revue
90s: U2 Zoo TV Tour (suppose they ever flashed an image of Charlie the Owl on the screen?)

I was partially responsible for getting this show on the air, being part of the focus group that drooled and fawned over this thing.

I can’t believe what an indiscriminating child I was.

I had the honor of seeing an outtake from NZR one time that was quite hilarious. It might have been a kid show but the guys in the costumes had a warped sense of humor.

It involved Freddie performing oral sex on the owl.

Ahh! My eyes! My eyes! Where’s the bleach?

Ah, so the rumors about Freddie the Frog are true after all. Sounds like something out of “New Zoo Revue: The E! True Hollywood Story”
