The Next Food Network Star

OK, so I watch more than my fair share of Food TV and I’ve been seeing lots of ads for these two guys’es upcoming show. Somehow I missed the contest shows where they won their opportunity.

First off, did anyone actually atch the contest? If so were these guys really the best they could do? Secondly, they are a gay couple, right? Gotta be.

Anyways, just watching the previews “Dan and Steve” have already worn thin on me. They grate on the nerves unlike anyone in recent memory.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who feels this way.

It’s things like this that actually restores a bit of my faith in Hollywood. Perhaps it is indeed harder to find talented, charismatic actors and such for our entertainment. The fact that the majority of people on TV don’t leave me with an urge to strangle something after 30 minutes of viewership speaks highly of their choices. Everytime a network does a audition type show, the contestants are annoying as hell. For example, the aforementioned Food TV one. As well as American Idol of course, Dream Job and I’m sure several other of the sort that I avoided watching. Maybe those Hollywood type aren’t complete idiots afterall.

Anyways, whats the over-under on number of episodes of this show we have to suffer through? I say maybe 10.

I watched part of the original contest, up until the “expert/celebrity” judges eliminated the only contestant that I’d have been willing to watch in a series. (The losing contestant’s name was Hans or Fritz or something Germanic. He was informative, knowledgeable, low-key, and cute. Naturally, he was the last person eliminated before public voting. Apparently not “fluffy” enough for the network.)

I don’t remember how many shows that the gay couple were guaranteed. Six or thirteen or so. I’m not likely to watch, since I generally depend on Ina Garten, or (God help me) Martha Stewart, or even Paula Deen for tips on cooking for guests, and Alton Brown for “just plain cooking” information. Dan and Steve might know what they’re doing, but their presentation style is so grating, IMHO, that I’d only throw things at the TV if I watched.

Hey, I’m with you, and I haven’t even seen the presentation style. Just the 30 second commercial spot has me loathing them already. The little guy squeezed in like 10 longing glances at the other guy over the course of the ad.

I watched the contest from beginning to end - every show. In my opinion, they were the best of the bunch. The problem Hans had, I thought, was that he was TOO laid back. Actually, I think Dan and Steve will be pretty good - give them a chance! (I thought they were pretty funny, too!)
