The Nicest Thing Anyone Has Done For Me In a Long Time

For a little background… (Are you in a comfy chair?)

I was the first male in my family, and I’m talking extended to the gills, to ever attend college. The first in my family to graduate also, and most of this I accomplished on my own as I was kicked out of my house when I was a freshman in college because I had no extra money to pay rent. Mind you, I was working full time and taking full time classes, but since my parents required me to pay for my own car, gas, insurance, clothing, and tuition, I had nothing left. I’m over it.

Anyway, I recently finished my Masters Degree. About a week ago, my wife told me that she had arranged dinner with my Dad and step-mom to celebrate my accomplishment (irony…ain’t she great?). This was a suprise to me, but we went and had a great time. They had a card for me, and when I went to open it after we were seated, my wife asked me to wait until later. Seemed odd to me, but I went along.

When we got home, she asked me to sit on the couch. She handed me the card from my Dad, and I opened it. It was a nice card, made me feel proud. Then she really got me! She pulled out a bag full of cards! Apparently she had contacted a bunch of my family and friends about two weeks ago and asked them all to send a card of congratulations. I had cards from all over the place. Some from people I would have never expected to hear from, and they were all incredibly flattering and heart felt. I was moved to tears people.

I had an incredible sense of pride reading these cards. So many people wrote how proud they were of me, and how they knew I had overcome a great deal to get to this point. All of the hardwork I had put in, and all of the sacrifices I had made seemed to be entirely worth it in that one moment. I wish I could express in words the amount of joy in my heart because of this simple, yet incredibly thoughtful act.

Sorry for the long tale, but I have been on such a high since this suprise, that I wanted to share it with any of you who cared enough to read through the entire saga.

All I know is that Mrs. RancidYakButterTeaParty is one hell of a woman!

They’re all just trying to get on your good side before you start making the big bucks.

Congratulations!

Congrats & stuff on the achievement. Make sure your missus is duly recgnized for her part as well. It takes a huge person to not take offense at certain parenting decisions.

Great observation. She has done a great job of forgiving what happened with my parents in the past. I got a renewed sense of how mature and unselfish she is when she made the dinner plans with my Dad and stepmom.

Thanks for the congrats.

Behind every successful man is a good woman.

That is simply awesome!

Congrats on your acheivement! You’ve done the easy part…now comes the hard part…wait…I got that backwards
