The Office 10/14

Great opening. Dwight picking up the day laborers that go missing, then he sets up a test with hornets nest and numerous objects to get rid of it.

Michael’s story was interesting. The only thing I would have changed was his behavior with Pam’s mom. Otherwise it was nice to see Michael reassured in who he really wants to be with, which is Holly.

I know people are going to say Andy has problems – and he does. But I still felt bad for him.

Andy has problems.

If somebody here is practicing abstinence they could say so…

I thought this was pretty easily the best episode of the current season.

Pretty funny episode.

“I’m just a regular guy who likes to get revenge on people.”

michael’s interaction with women makes my skin crawl. toss in a possiblecold sore misrepresented as full blown herpes and… ::shudder::

Yes, but that phone call with Holly (both of them, but especially the first one) was sweet.

The first one was sweet. But the second one was the biggest watershed moment of the entire series.

Oh man, Jan is just the kind of crazy that I always manage to fall in love with.

Loved the “I have H…I…RPES”

Stanley never fails to crack me up, by doing so little, like when he was chuckling at Andy trying to put a condom onto a pencil. Speaking of which, where was Toby for all of this? The sex ed meeting was the type of thing that he would either be leading, or make poor attempts to shut it down.

And I know you’re all waiting for me to say it, so here it is - it was also great to finally have an episode that didn’t revolve around Jim and/or Pam.

I believe he spelled it " H-I-R-P-E-E-S." The second E is comedy gold, Jerry!

Even HR calls in sick sometimes!

-Joe

Jan’s kid, (Astrid?), was a little old if I remember correctly.

I liked the second call. “Oh and by the way, you may have herpes, so you should see a doctor.”

Can’t you get oral outbreaks for both?

You are correct. She was born at the latest in the summer/fall 2008 so she should be two years old at the oldest if we’re following the same time frames. Of course, it could be like Mad Men where they have unmentioned long gaps in chronology between seasons.

I think this is not as funny as last week, but still pretty good.

It looks like whatever Andy has learned from his anger management class is pretty much gone now. Things are gonna get interesting…

Stanley was needling Andy throughout this whole episode, first for the “Can I have everyone’s attention?” and then for the pencil thing. He already knew about Andy’s anger issues, so is it safe to assume that like Jim, Stanley is a horrible person?

I saw it again, and I still like Michael’s second call to Holly. Still hated how he treated Pam’s mom though.

In one of the deleted scenes;

Michael calls the hotel concierge he met in Canada to tell her she should get checked by a doctor. This disappoints me because it wasn’t certain, from the audience’s perspective, if they had sex or not. I really liked the ambiguity… and in my own head, I liked to think Michael didn’t go through with it.

Oh, **Munch **said the second call was a “watershed moment”. What’s that expression mean?

But an anger problem doesn’t give him the right to do stupid things. It’s not Stanley’s fault Andy can’t control his temper. If he doesn’t want to get called out he shouldn’t do stupid things…like give an impromptu safe sex seminar to a group of people that are at least in their 30’s.

The opening with Dwight was weird and creepy in a non Dwight way. I can see Dwight being a citizen ICE (aka INS) Agent but what was missing was a twisted Dwight-Reason for why to make it funny.

I think this episode also proved to me that whomever they choose to replace Michael, they need to go in some different direction from Michael because Andy as Michael-Lite was weak.

I would say Douchey wunderkind would work but they already went to that well so maybe oblivious and close to retirement so he doesn’t care would work. That way focus can shift back to the other players.

That’s Mose as the fake ICE agent. And Dwight just does it so he doesn’t have to pay them.

Finally, a decent episode. Michael being introspective is a major turning point for the character and is setting up his departure, methinks. Best line goes to Meredith, although it was bleeped: “Get on with it, pencil dick.”
