The Office 2/8/07

Indeed, but then at the end of the show he told her that he had rethought and she should probably think about moving to Scranton.

She takes this as a sign that he *may *be interested. She says words to the effect that she doesn’t really know, but she knows she is interested in him, and that is enough.

Digging deep into the old brain here…was that the episode where Jim found out Pam was on a date? I think he was about to cut Karen loose when Michael mentioned Pam’s big date…so he changed his mind.

Or am I conflating way too many things?

Yeah, I’d say Karen is responsible for her own life. Jim may be doing the wrong thing in trying to “make do” with her, but she’s not exactly making the best choices either.

If real life is any guide, I’d say Jim might have had a great relationship with Karen and they could have been each other’s best choice, IF they’d stayed in Stamford. When you are hung up on someone, sometimes you can just make a clean break, pretend they don’t exist anymore, and get on with your life, find that other one-in-a-million person. But if you wind up seeing the object of your affection every day, it really messes all that up.

Anyway, as to letting the series end without Jim and Pam together, I say NO! “Never give up!” Yes, things go like that in real life all the time, but as much as I praise this show for being realistic in many ways, it is still fiction, which needs to depart from the way things go in real life to function. I no more want to see a totally realistic portrayal of unrequited love than I want to watch 30 minutes of realistic daily office life at a paper company every week.

Ha - if they shot it after lunch, it would be 30 minutes of no one moving, no one doing anything (except the bare minimum to appear to be working), no phones ringing, no nothing.

Just because he has a thing for Pam doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Karen. He may love Pam more, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Karen.

Oh, man, don’t mess up my little illusion. It was funnier when I thought he purposely picked the tie’s color to match the bridesmaids’ dresses.

There is a blog where a HR professional calculates the value of the lawsuits filed weekly against Dunder Mifflin because of Michael.

Do we have any evidence that he does love Karen? Like, has he ever said he does? He’s not really acting like he does, and he did say that he still feels for Pam when asked by Karen. A different girl would break up with him after a revelation like that, which to me indicates that he would have been OK with it being over. Not the behavior of someone in love with Karen. He likes her, and I think under other circumstances he might love her. But I think he’s got Pam enshrined in there now and Karen isn’t able to dislodge her, not while he’s seeing Pam every day and all.

Well, he does say at the end of the last show that “here is a non-hypothetical: I’m with Karen and that makes me happy” (or something to that effect.)

I’m hopin’ that they break up. Scranton isn’t that far away from York PA - I’d make the drive to help Karen get over him.

He did say that. I thought he was rationalizing, considering that Pam left with Roy.

I really liked Karen when they were in Stamford, and I wanted Jim to get over Pam and have something good with her. But it seems obvious to me that he can’t move on as long as he’s around Pam. I lost a bit of respect for Karen when Jim told her he still wanted Pam and Karen talked herself out of breaking up with him. I do feel bad for her, having invested a lot in the relationship when he really doesn’t love her. I just don’t know how he’s going to get over Pam while he still has to see her every day.

I was just thinking:

Is there any plausible reason why Roy, who works in the loading dock, should have been invited to Phyllis’ wedding? Have they ever even spoken to each other on the show?

That’s an excellent point. Did anyone notice Daryl or anyone else from the warehouse?

I figured the invitation was to Pam “and guest”.

Edited to add – Never mind. They didn’t seem to be together until they left at the end.

So yeah, good question!

Didn’t Vance Refrigeration take over the warehouse?

They were going to but then the Scranton branch didn’t close so I don’t think it happened. Frostillicus makes an excellent point. If any of the warehouse guys should have been invited by Bob, it’s Darryl. I guess Phyllis could have invited him since she would have gotten to know him from when he would be up there visiting Pam.

Well, she’s friends with Pam. And Pam has been working for Dunder-Mifflin for a while and was engaged with Roy for most of that while. He’s with Pam at DM events (like the Dundies) and, apperently, Roy is invited to other events that have nothing much to do with him (Diwali). So maybe Roy does talk to some people every now and then.

Also, Phyllis was invited to his wedding, so maybe she felt she had to invite him to hers.

At one point, someone said something like, “Wow, there are a lot of people here.” I think Phyllis just invited EVERYONE.

Vance Refrigeration is in the same building as Dunder Mifflin. In S.1, they show Michael getting on the elevator and there’s a building directory. I was surprised to see that it said “Vance Refrigeration.”

That also explains why Roy and the dock workers were at Vance’s lame bachelor party.

An article about Rashida Jones in this week’s Entertainment Weekly describes Jim as her ex-boyfriend and longtime buddy. So they were an item in real life?

Correction: It was episode 2.8 “Performance Review” at 17:57 when Jan is in the lobby trying to collect her thoughts after Michael continually brings up the famous kiss in the parking lot. Dunder Mifflin is Suite 200 and Vance Refrigeration is Suite 210. (FYI W.B. Jones Heating and Air is in Suite 110. Suite 120 (1400 sq. feet) is available if anyone wants to lease it. :D)
