Doesn’t he run the warehouse? I would guess most of his day consists of making sure orders go where they are supposed to, ordering supplies, filing out the necessary paperwork, stuff like that.
They are in Scranton, PA. The D & B (or whatever it was called) manager is clearly educated and professional if she is reading management books. Michael looks normal enough and is in a management position in a corporation. He probably does look like a catch compared to the various Roys she is used to seeing. At least until he opens his mouth.
I found the mention of Lee Iacocca an interesting choice as a reference. Iacocca was born in Allentown, PA and graduated from Lehigh University, both of which are only a few hours south of Scranton.
I’ll be perfectly happy if they never mention the baby again and let us assume it’s living a normal baby life. We don’t need to hear about Stanley or Meredith’s kids unless it helps to drive the plot. No different with the Halpert child.
Yes…the warehouse. The warehouse is down in the…warehouse. Shouldn’t he be down in the warehouse if he is running the warehouse?
Can he see through the floor like Superman to make sure all is well down in the warehouse? Every warehouse manager in the known world has his office IN THE WAREHOUSE.
But not on this (NOW) second rate comedy.
What next? They make him Co-manager with Michael?
Nah, even The Office wouldn’t do something that stupid and unbelievable to have two managers in the same small company.
I think we can believe Pam would set her friend up with Michael because she has been away from the office so much, she kind of has forgotten how obnoxious he is. She clearly hahs a soft spot for him and being away from the office kind of blunted the negatives.
I assume Darryl spends part of his day in the warehouse supervising stuff and part of it in his office figuring out how to improve the shipping schedule or whatever, but they just weren’t showing his warehouse time. I assume Pam and Jim got a baby sitter and maybe even called to check up on her at some point, but that just wasn’t being shown either. I don’t really need the show to waste time telling me this stuff, when it could instead spend that time, you know, being funny.
Also, Pam said straight out that her friend “laughs at everything”. Pam figured that someone who is easily amused and someone who craves approval (especially for his jokes) would be a perfect match.
I agree that Kevin was pretty creepy in this episode, although I admit I laughed when I realized that he was crying at Pam’s breasts…as if they had some kind of sensors in them…as if he thought Pam’s breasts (not Pam herself) needed to hear crying.
I thought Pam bringing her friend to set up with Michael was consistent with her being a self-styled matchmaker. I know there was a confessional in which she tried to pair Oscar with that guy from the warehouse (“They’re the only two gay men I know, and they must be together!” or something to that effect). I think there were other instances as well, but I don’t recall specifics.
I liked the episode, but I still can’t get my mind around why the mom from Aliens in America who is now managing a bar would find Date Mike attractive. She’ll probably get her own story arc, and I’m expecting weirdness.
She also tried to set Michael up with her landlady, so she has a history of trying to set Michael up in particular. Although her earlier attempt didn’t work out well, she may have thought that Michael had grown since then. Also, her friend in this episode was more attractive and I believe younger than Pam’s landlady, which would eliminate the only objections Michael had to the landlady.
she also was charmed by michael at her mom’s birthday before the hangups about age brought everything to a crashing halt.
i don’t have a problem with the action in a vacuum, but it’s pam’s one time out to interact with people in the office. why muddy the waters by introducing this other storyline? there are tons of unexplored material as it is. Pam would definitely want to talk to oscar, toby, erin, even kelly and phyllis more than set michael up with a date.
date mike could have come out in a different episode. a double/date scenario perhaps? i just felt like it was another wasted opportunity to pump out a few good side-character jokes and too much Michael-centric storyline.
