The Office 4/22

I also thought that Michael was strangely normal in this episode, and I quite liked it.

“She’s kind of a … rube.” Oh, the irony! From the guy who eats at Sbarro when he’s in Manhattan. I loved that line.

I enjoyed the episode, though not the scene where Erin imploded. As usual in later seasons, they take characters’ traits over-the-top instead of going for subtlety. Also, I find Michael’s behavior toward Erin to be annoyingly inconsistent. He liked her in the “Cafe Disco” episode (when they danced together). The two had a good ‘moment’ in “Scott’s Tots.” To me, the trouble seems to be that Michael behaves differently depending on who’s writing the episode that week. This time it was Mindy Kaling, who IMHO has lost a lot of the writing depth she used to have in earlier seasons. (Compare “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” to “Frame Toby” or “Niagara.” Her stuff has become very broad.)

Of course, Michael’s an inconsistent person too. His maturity/growth takes a step forward and then two steps back. Which is what makes him so frustrating.

He used to like Andy quite a lot, as a matter of fact – when Andy first arrived, the two were buddies until “The Return,” when Michael realized Andy was weird and just sucking up to him. I just hope that this episode’s growth in the Michael/Erin relationship will be maintained. I hate seeing Erin get dumped on by someone she inexplicably admires.

Andy really needed to tell her. And she was entitled to having feelings. But getting THAT mad when you’ve only been dating 3 weeks was a little too clingy for me.

Of course if he had told her we never wouldn’t have had the restaurant scene.

“In the foster home, my hair was my room”

Ryan is a pretentious hipster prick - a couple weeks ago he was wearing a fedora everywhere. Before that, wasn’t he wearing some “ironic” glasses?
