The Office - 5/3 - "Turf War"

Some funny stuff (Dwight/Gabe trying to walk after their “slumber party”, “I’ll be talking about geishas long after they’ve gone to sleep”) but it would seem they’ve decided to just recycle the “closing other branches” and “Michal Scott Paper Company” storylines.

Loved how desperate Homer Simpson was for a visitor, though.

“Is there someone here to see me?”
“Yes sir, this gentlemen.”
“Hi, come on in!”

I thought it was kind of stupid to recycle the old plot, but at least they put a bit of a twist on it by bringing David back.

I thought this was one of the funniest episodes ever.

What was written at the bottom of the “Slumber Party” image?

So, do Andy and David resurrect Dunder-Mifflin?

(Hey! It’s Frank Sobotka!)

I thought it was a good episode, but for a while now I’ve been noticing that they’re reusing a few story-lines.

Besides what’s been already mentioned there is the one romantic story-line that keeps getting reused. Jim and Pam, Michael and Holly, Andy and Erin, all meet, had crushes, got together, broke up, dated other people, got back together again.

Something like: “We stayed up and talked all night long!”

What a step-up from last week. I don’t want to say I liked this one until I see next week’s final. It looks like things could get interesting. I just hope it’s different than the Michael Scott Paper Company story arc, which I liked, but I wouldn’t want to see used again.

I love Robert, even in this episode. It was great when he told Andy off… I’ll miss him. He’s been very patient with Andy. Offered him a job after punching a hole in the wall, offering to pay for dinner with Erin at a fancy restaurant, and letting him hang out in the office.

Speaking of the Michael Scott Paper Company, isn’t Dwight’s gym (from the cold open) located in that old office space?

It just might be Bob Ducca, interesting… but it would be really small for a whole gym.

I thought I remembered the episode when the MSPC closed that Dwight opened the gym in the space, with Mose throwing medicine balls at people or something.

The episode where Dwight opened a gym* wasn’t right after MSPC closed… I think it was this season. I don’t remember Mose being in that one but I could be wrong. Dwight didn’t even own the building then.

It was Dwight Schrute’s Gym for Muscles or something.

*it was first not a real gym, or not a modern one.

I liked Dwight trying to show he was a hard guy by swallowing dry protein powder. “Why don’t you just take estrogen?”

Ah, I think you’re right. It was this season, the episode with Robert California’s wife.

I think I’m remembering him opening a daycare. Don’t know if it was in the MSPC office space or not though.

I don’t buy that they’re recycling the Michael Scott Paper Company plot, not exactly, anyway. Michael went off in a fit and set up his own competing company, knowing nothing about what he was doing. My take, at least from seeing Andy’s pitch to David Wallace, is that he’d like to have Wallace back a takeover of Dunder Mifflin. Seems he wants to buy it out from under Sabre and Robert California. That was reinforced in the tag, where the Syracuse guy says California is ruining the company and they won’t have jobs in six months.

Potato, potahto, maybe, as far as recycling plots, but I thought Andy’s scheme was brilliant. He gave California a shot to hire him back, got nastily shot down - but had Plan B in his back pocket all along. Michael Scott never had a Plan B.

Speaking of Robert’s nasty smack down of Andy, that was great. “You don’t even know my real name!”

What is the status of Andy and Erin’s sex life?

Seems like in the last few episodes they’ve gone from not before marriage, to Andy couldn’t perform to I’m-ready; let’s-rush-out-of-here-and-do-it.

Maybe that’s exactly the status… it just seems like the evolution wasn’t real clear.

I am the fucking lizard king!

I have to work “soft-penis” into my repertoire of insults. I’ll be getting to the age when that could really start to hit home with my peers.

I was just coming back into this thread to mention these two points and to ask if they’re going to play into each other. We already know that Robert is a bit odd and he makes somewhat interesting (for lack of a better word) managerial decisions. Is it possible that Robert California isn’t his real name and he’s pulling a fast one on DM/Sabre? Maybe saying “You don’t even know my real name” was just his master plan slipping out a little in a moment of stress at Andy. Maybe he’s trying to take down the company for a competitor. That might explain getting rid of Andy in favor of Nellie.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it now. Robert California has no idea what he’s doing. He’s basically saying some buzz words, getting people to believe him and doing what he wants. He’s gotten really lucky so far, but now we see it starting to fall apart. I’ve known people like him, don’t really know what they’re doing but do it anyway.

I don’t recall them waiting for Marriage. At one point Erin refused to even kiss him until he broke up with his current girlfriend which he did in that same episode.
