So you posted a link you knew was worthless just to get a response… I wonder if there’s a word for that type of behavior?
I saved that dummy data, eternal vigilance and all that jazz. Because if the numbers come like that at the end of the day, someone in that state will have to something to explain.
We’re just asking you to take a bit more of a critical eye on things before rushing in here to vomit this garbage all over the board.
If you knew it was garbage to begin with, but posted it anyway, what does that say about you?
It’s going to be a long day. This thread is going to be a long thread. Check things before you post them. Please.
Any early numbers that pop up are only worthless in your mind.
I’m pretty sure he knew exactly what he was posting, in advance.
I am voting after work (I will be leaving early though), because I suspect lines will be long n the morning and anyway it works out well for picking up my kid at school.
I have had two calls today to remind me to vote for Obama!
No, not from local Democratic organizers - from friends in BERLIN!
I assured my German friends that I had already voted early, and yes, for Obama.
They are in a mild tizzy over there, terrified that Romney will win.
Let’s just say this is major news in Germany today too.
I told them to have another beer and chill out.
Sitting here in Las Vegas, I think you can safely assume Nevada is going to pull through for Obama today. Nate got this swing state correct.
I got off work after pulling a midnight shift and headed to the polling place around 10am. There was a line of about 30-40 people out into the parking lot (it’s pretty rural, I live on the edge of suburbia and farmland) and took me about an hour. I could’ve been in bed 90 minutes ago! The people in front of me were remarking about the turnout – apparently there’s usually never more than 5 or 6 people in line, and they’ve always shown up around this time – even the 2008 presidential election didn’t pull these numbers around here.
Also up for vote:
Maryland version of the DREAM act
Civil Marriage license for gay couples
Casino/gaming expansion
Expanded rights for management during collective bargaining with the police union
I can see why there was such a heavy turnout for what’s almost definitively an Obama state.
Tempted to stay up and watch the drama, but alas, I actually need my brain for work tonight.
It would be helpful if everyone posting in this thread about their local voting experiences would also include their location.
Thanks.
Some minor oddness at my polling place on Long Island, NY this morning. The old mechanical voting machines are gone, replaced by fill in the dots forms.
-
The lady explained how if you want to vote along party lines, you fill in all the dots on the same row. She very clearly mimed filling in all the Republican dots. She did the same demonstration for the voter before me. I think she was hoping for a “monkey see monkey do” effect.
-
The machine for scanning the form was jammed so I had to put my form in a drawer and walk away. Hopefully it will be scanned later. With old mechanical machines, you pulled the lever and there was a satisfying clunk and I felt confident that my vote was counted.
I was amused that with all the hullabaloo this cycle about IDs, this is the first year I wasn’t asked for one. I did still have to sign the book.
Is there any point in watching election coverage before 9? Are there any election coverage drinking games?
Sorry, Northern California. The Senate and Presidential vote not so important in this state, but there are some important propositions. Yes on 30, No on 32.
Er Long Island New York here.
In CA I voted weeks ago. I kinda feel left out…
Hm, not that I know of, although It’d be pretty easy to come up with one.
a) Anytime somebody says “too close to call”
b) Anytime somebody can’t get the magic map to do what they want
c) Anytime somebody says “white working-class voters”
d) And, of course, each time a state is called (either with a cheer if it’s for your guy or with an expletive if it isn’t).
Feel free to expand.
Ohio.
I just hope this guyloses his race for Tax Assessor here where I live. Not because of his politics, or because I even know or care how one Tax Assessor vs. a different one would affect me.
No, it’s because with that name, he absolutely has the right to be wearing chain mail and pillaging and plundering wherever he goes. Yet he refuses to do so. I could never vote for such a person.
I am unsurprised.
I was actually quite surprised that the turnout was fairly low here in Northern Virginia. I voted at roughly the same time in 2008 and 2004, and in the evening in 2000, and each of those times it took at least 2-3 hours; this morning, I was in and out in less than an hour. I’m curious if it’s just that things are a little different in timing or if people are staying home from general election fatigue or they just aren’t impressed enough with one candidate or scare enough of the other to be bothered to vote.
There was also some people from both parties there, as usual, but the Democratic reps were working the line too close to the building (they have to be 100 ft away or so, right?) and rightfully had the election officials in a hissy. Considering this is a key battleground state, I’m curious how much of that stuff might be going on and if it’ll come back to bite those doing it if it is really close.
