I’m trying to get a bit of work done. Tax stuff, housework, ordering some things for the ‘away-office’. Then I’m off to the DOT to pick up some plans and down to the ‘away-office’ for afternoon work.
So, no, I’m not planning to watch it. I have confidence that it will all go down just fine without my supervision.
I have both a radio and a TV at work, but I had to turn them both off. I was so sick of the fawning and the gushing and the flat-out public fellating over the weekend…I was getting ill.
The TV’s in the office caf are all set to CNN Headline, and I did try to watch, but they insist on putting frickin’ Lou Dobbs and drug commercials over every damn thing.
I couldn’t take that anymore - I have it being recorded at home and will watch in peace then. I did read Obama’s speech online, though - nice piece of work, including expressing by implication a huge amount of embarrassment as an American for what the Republicans have done to us.
My comment was made based on the way the networks have been carrying on for the last several days. Deep, solemn voices announcing the inauguration and how historic it is and all that. Made it sound like he was going to take the oath, then ascend bodily into heaven.
I hope you enjoyed making yourself look foolish. If I toss you a cookie, will you do the stupid little dance again?
Jesus Christmas, have you NEVER watched a network anchor work an event? They do that for everything! It’s more about making sure everyone gets to hear their Emmy reel than about whatever they’re reporting on, anyway.
And frankly, I’ll never have to fear looking foolish as long as we share a thread.
Hey, don’t feel bad! Even those who’d made the trip were buggering off in droves when that lady started reading A POEM!? I could see them all shaking their heads as they wandered off looking for a burger stand. It must have been a little disheartening if she could actually focus on anything but her words. I actually found them quite moving. Will it be in print anywhere on the web? I can’t remember the title or her name.
Well, I dunno, even this hardcore atheist was pretty astonished that Obama was able to feed the 2 million people gathered on the Mall with just that one little bag of potato chips.
Also, I’m glad we as a nation are finally moving on past the prudishness that was exemplified by the whole “Janet Jackson’s boobie” flap; and really, the completely nude interpretive dance routine by Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie was actually quite moving. (I didn’t quite follow what “copyright issues” there were that prevented any recording of it from being made, but whatever–I’m sure the live broadcast will stay with us all for the rest of our lives.)
And then, when Osama bin Laden showed up to try to personally carry out a suicide bombing, and President Obama personally tackled him and disarmed the bomb with his bare hands? Wow!
One of the small mercies of living on the west coast is the fact that that by the time I got up, checked my email and had my tea, most of the inaugapocalypse was over. I’m sure I’ll be able to catch up on what ever highlights I wish to see when they are repeated ad nauseum on various networks over the next week or so, though.
I don’t know…normally, I’m not the type who begrudges the other side their victories, and certainly I respect Mr. Obama as the President and as someone who seems like a relatively decent guy (for a career politician). However, I was so sick of this inauguration by the time it happened that I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. The thing that annoyed me the most was all the people who glowingly asked me if I was able to watch it, and wasn’t it wonderful, and blah blah blah. I feel like people are going to think I’m kind of churlish if I don’t act 100% enthusiastic, given the circumstances, but politically, I’m NOT enthusiastic.
