I have watched every inauguration since 1953. I consider them among the few “pomp and circumstance” events this country allows… history in the making. But I’m sitting this one out. This is not a time to celebrate what promises to be the most corrupt administration in U.S. history.
I’ve got a day job. Colbert, et al., will show the “high points.”
Between “watching an official ceremony” or “watching people do silly things on YouTube”, I know which sounds more entertaining to me. Personally, I’d be just as happy if the President starts his job like anyone else, by just going to his desk, sitting down, and putting in the hours.
I’ll be interested to see what Trump does as President. The ceremony wouldn’t appeal to me regardless of who had been elected.
I scheduled a day off for that day, just in case I feel the need to do some A.M. drinking. I’ll likely tune in here and there like I would a nascar race, always with an eye out for “The Big One”.
I don’t think I even realized it was a daytime affair. The tv in my office is always on so I couldn’t escape it if I wanted to. I won’t like it but I’d still watch it - or as much of it as I could stand- voluntarily. It is still an historic event and the twat *is *our president, like it or not.
Well its at 10 pm local time for me. But, to answer the question, yes.
Nope.
Nope.
I did get the day off (federal contractor in the DC area), but that would have happened no matter who was elected, so I can’t even thank Trump for that.
I don’t watch, read, or listen to the news anyways so at least avoiding it isn’t going to take much effort.
You could not get me to watch it with a gun.
Fuck no.
Nope, I will however finish setting up my monthly giving schedule for 2017. I started it during Trump’s press conference, I’ll finish it during his swearing in.
I’ll be at work and I’m sure it will be playing on the news feeds that the TV’s on the wall are tuned to.
I’ve been ill with somewhat serious stuff and off work for a while. Could the doctor sign me off work for just a couple more days so I could blissfully be at home at take my pain meds? Oh no! This will have to be one of the 5 days I can work in January.
But I am signed off for Saturday and Sunday - surgery prep and surgery for condition #2. Then back to surgeon for condition #1 on Tuesday and he will probably sign me out again for another surgery.
A friend is holding a wake (for the United States) tomorrow evening. I’m sure there will be some re-broadcasts of the inauguration playing at some point. And it will probably be featured in a drinking game or two.
Only reason I did not check “go out of my way” is that not turning on the TV or radio really won’t require any extra effort.
Meanwhile, I’m maintaining my post-election resolutions: still doing my sit-ups and push-ups and playing music, and have started training to tutor adult literacy.
I never could stand to watch W, and feel the same about Trump. Over the last week or so I’ve watched a couple of eps of TDS and Full Frontal. Tho the subject material is abhorrent, watching the shows hasn’t been as horribly unpleasant as I feared. And I flip thru the front page of the paper every morning.
My wife wants to hang the flag upside down in front of our house tomorrow. I asked that she not.
I can remember watching bits and pieces back to 60. I’ve never been one to try to follow the whole thing but I will probably see about half of it or a bit more.
No, definitely not. I probably won’t even watch the news tomorrow.
My blood pressure is high enough without subjecting myself to that.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
I will watch it live. Trump needs to be watched 24/7/365 with a magnifying glass. When the Sun is out one can use the magnifying glass to melt him like an ant.
Ladies and Gentlemen, The President of the United States, Donald John Trump.
Worth watching just to hear that announcement.
I’ll be at work, so nope.
I won’t make any effort to catch a rebroadcast of it though. But then, I voted for Obama and didn’t bother watching either of his either. I guess inaugurations don’t hold much interest for me.
