I can’t help wondering if Cheney is in a wheelchair because he was unable to feed today. I’m guessing he’s no longer being delivered living victims every morning.
The couple of lucid moments my 22 month old daughter had were very interesting. She actually paid attention for the first few moments of his speech. She liked the Star Spangled Banner.
The second Grover Cleveland was actually a replicant.
I thought Obama’s speech was very good, the poem was only so-so, Warren was corny and Lowery was great. Aretha Franklin sounded hoarse but performed excellently.
And I think Roberts may have reversed some of the words in the oath, which tripped Obama up.
President Obama! All right!
There goes Executive One.
Heckuva job, Bushie.
…and ended with an update of an old blues-era riff (“if you’re black, step back, if you’re brown, stick around…”)
I wish Michelle were wearing a warmer coat, or at least one that buttoned. She must be freezing her ass off.
Nah, I bet he’s relieved as all get out to be out of office. Bet that fucker goes fishing after his homecoming ceremony too. Bastard.
Of course, the Freepers’ thread on the inaugural address is so much more entertaining.
Two of my favorite tidbits:
“It was a revealing Freudian slip. As a Marxist, he does not intend to respect the Constitution, so why would he bother to recite the oath correctly?”
and
“I wonder if anyone has made the point that he took the oath with the Lincoln Bible because unlike GW, or even Clinton, he didn’t have a family Bible. He came from a family of atheists.”
I fucking love those guys.
Someone just had to explain to Katie Couric why the people were cheering as Bush’s helicopter flew over.
I’m watching the helo take Bush away forever, and I’m positively giddy.
Watching on Hulu now (i.e. Fox); yay for teh intarwebz.
I missed the speech, though… was listening to NPR in my car, but had to get out and climb stairs and make a phone call and by the time I got my computer booted it was all over. Damn…
Dude, you’re misrepresenting.
They pointed out things that could be seen as reaching out to conservatives because it is typical for inagural speeches to sound a concilatory note.
The “traditional values” they talked about were service, honesty, patritism and all that stuff – i.e. universal things.
And they’re singing “Hey Hey, Good-Bye” again. Now it’s less rude. It’s still rude all the same.
To be fair to Roberts, Obama also jumped the gun a little. The only times I got the sense he was nervous were that grin right before the oath, and when he cut Roberts off after “I, Barack Hussein Obama” as Roberts was continuing to “do solemnly swear.”
Will someone PLEASE tell the NBC commentators and crew to turn their fucking cell phones off.
Acid Lamp mentioned Faux News Reporting that:
Yes, as opposed to that articulate, erudite previous Presidentiable who said all those memoriable things such as ???
09-11-2001 Worst attack on American soil and Bush said ???
Yes, those words will live on long after Barack Obama’s 15 minutes of fame.
That could very well be. I wanted to type quickly for fear of mangling the words and sentiments more than I apparently did.
Is it true that the microphone caught fire when Robert Frost was speaking at Kennedy’s inauguration?
That, my friend, made me cry.
I only wish he put both hands on the podium and leaned down to lear at Bushie.
Juan Williams is sobbing right now. Not just getting misty, but actually choking up to where he can barely talk.
Still find myself crying every couple of minutes. I’m so relieved! EIGHT YEARS! Eight fucking years!!! It’s finally over!
