The Official New York RibFest Thread

I can get as far as Manhattan (the island, as opposed to the mod ;)) under my own steam.

That means (I forgot to mention) that to be at Penn Station by, say, 11:00 AM, I’d need to be on the 10:00 train from my house. Meaning, basically, that if anyone’d agree to give me transport, they’d have to let me know by e-mail by no later than midnight or one tonight - reason being, I gotta get up at, ohhhh… 7:30 or 8:00 AM.

Those who’re willing to undertake the task at hand, please e-mail me, as that way I can e-mail you my # and such.

I’ve been trying mightily to overcome the obstacles that have been thrown in my path to Ribfest. (Obstacles much to numerous to recount here and besides, I don’t want to bum out the entire party with my tales of woe.) I stayed optimistic that I would overcome adversity - until today. Now I have a fever and a nasty bellyache, and it seems clear that I have to throw in the towel. With much regret, I must give my regrets.

With my luck, I probably would have brought bad weather with me and made everyone sick with whatever bug I’ve got, to boot. Have a cold one and a bunch of hot ones for me.

Aw, bummer. :frowning:

Sorry to hear you’re sick on top of everything else, Anita. Stay home, take care of yourself, and hope you feel better soon.

Anita’s backing out means I’m driving up to NY alone. I could easily pick you up somewhere, Cosmo. (Zappo, I know you have other passengers, so it might make more sense for me to pick her up.)

Totally up to you, RT. I got an email from Cosmo this afternoon and I told her I’d call her tonight. . .email me and we can figure something out.

Check your email, Zappo - I sent one to Cosmo and you.

Hey, Dave, is there a rain date, or at least a rain plan? If it rains, do we all just crowd into your house and get extra friendly with each other? Mama-san isn’t dealing too well with all the wet we’re having here after having had 13 years of sunshine out in AZ . . . .

There is no alternate plan, and besides, I got something like 50 pounds of ribs in my fridge.

People are already in the area from Texas, Michigan, and whatnot, and rescheduling would cause more problems than having it in the rain.

Yes, it’s tomorrow, come Hell or high water. Literally.

Does anybody know how to tap a keg? 'Cuz I sure don’t.

See ya’ll tomorrow!

OK, that’s settled. After much back-and-forthing, Zappo and I figured out how he could meet me & we could get to the par-tay.

He said he’d gimme a ride back, as well, but I was wondering if anyone was headed down Manhattan/Long Island way on the night of the party (as opposed to staying for the brunch).

Reasons:
1)Zappo’s staying for brunch, and getting me back down that night would mean a crapload of driving, which I’m sure he’d rather avoid, and

  1. I wanna spread my pain-in-the-assness around.

You make exceedingly meaty points, sir. I shall be there, possibly with galoshes. And an umbrella. Let me know if I should stop at a sporting goods store for emergency hip waders, too, m’kay?

I am so looking forward to sinking my teeth into your meat. Mmmmmm, BBQ!

Black bean salsa’s all made, and I’m ready to head up in the morning, rain or no rain. See y’all there.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Pennsylvania Omicron chapter, Alpha Phi pledge class (spring '89) checking in.

It’s covered.

Yea, Zappo!

Here’s what Weather Underground has to say for the weekend at Casa Dave-Guy:

Today: Patchy fog early this morning…then mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms late in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 80s. Light northwest winds becoming west winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms early this evening…then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 60s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest. Chance of rain 30 percent.

Sunday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. North winds 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest.

Sounds like a good weekend to me.

By now, my absense may have been noted. Or not.

Regrets all around, but last night the guy that was relieving me was having chest pains so I ended up working all night. I actually did try to get up after two hours sleep and motivate myself to go, but after spending a half hour trying to build up the energy to get up from a chair, I realized there was no way I was going to leave the house.

I hope everyone had a great time. Of course I also hope everyone was walking around saying “Woe is me. Without Little Nemo here, this party has no meaning and my life is without joy.” or at least “Dammit. Wasn’t what-his-name supposed to be bringing the ice cream?”

We ended up heading into Noo Yawk for Chinese food, and it was delicious. We entered the Holland Tunnel at 9:00 and walked in the door at 11:30. We really should come up there more often.

Thanks Dave! Thanks Mrs. Dave! We had a great time.

Glad you got home safe and sound, Ginger. My wife was surprised that you decided to make a day trip out of it, and you were more than welcome to camp out, but c’est la vie.

We’ll probably do this again, when our parole officer gives us the thumbs up, so be sure to carve out a block of time and come on up.

All is well here. The baby just woke up and I’ll get A_V up in a sec. RT is ready, so we’ll just hop in the ol’ POS and make our way back to your place, Dave.

I LOVE YOU GUYS!
…Especially Zappo, MsRobyn, and Airman Doors, as well as Houseman, BigGirl and Justin. Oh, and Gorgon Heap (and, presumably, Acrylic_Vessel ;)) for repeatedly offering space in their home in case I needed to crash.

I’ll be doing a full report of my personal doings at RibFest later today, after I wake up.
