I’ll give you a harrumph for this. Yes, we as a society suck the dicks of the military far too much. “It’s Flag Day! Thank the troops!.. It’s Memorial Day! Suck a military dick!.. It’s Independence Day! Oh, the troops!.. It’s Veterans’ Day! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG The troops!” Enough.
McCain had a better POW experience than most. He received better medical care due to his father being an admiral. He was useful to the North Vietnamese, and McCain readily complied with their wishes. So he deferred his departure. Maybe because he knew the others weren’t as well treated as he was. Big deal. So he’s made a career out of self-promoting his POW experience. He’s still an asshole.
I don’t think anyone who thought there was a chance Obama was not a US citizen actually voted for him.
The portion of the US populace who gave any credence to the Birther theory didn’t vote for Barack Obama. Indeed, there is probably a reversal of cause and effect in many cases; people who didn’t want to vote for him anyway chose to believe the Birther nonsense because it helped reinforce their hatred of him.
Trump’s no monster. He’s a salesman who wants to be President. So he asked himself, ‘what policy positions should I hold in order to appeal to the GOP base?’, and started spouting bizarre, reality-averse tidbits of racism, militarism, revisionist history, and outright Woo, and immediately shot to the top of the polls. Don’t be mad at Trump. Be mad at yourself for having such a sophomoric, oversimplified political outlook that even a pure-D moron like him can figure out how to effectively market to you and the rest of your ruminating herd.
In a speech on Tuesday, Trump gave out Lindsey Graham’s cell phone number and asked his supporters to try calling it. I did not watch the speech, so maybe it was part of some larger point. But I’m going to go out on a limb and assumt it was just garden-variety assholishness.
I guess it’s not a huge deal for Graham to get a new phone number and have a lackey inform all his contacts of the change. Still, what a petty, pointless thing for Trump to do.
I’m pretty much a liberal all the way through. I voted against John McCain when I had the chance; I have very little respect for the way he’s handled his political affairs over the last decade or so and agree with him about essentially nothing.
But your post is shitty. “Big deal?” OK, tell you what: go do it. Go find somebody to torture you on a daily basis for a couple of weeks; make sure you fall out of a plane first and get dysentery. Spend a few years in solitary confinement. Then, when they offer to let you go see your family and eat pizza, tell them no. Then you can say fucking “big deal.” Until then, that post is an embarrassment to all of us who generally share your political opinions, and you should be sorry you posted it.
McCain got preferential treatment from the North Vietnamese because he was a high value prisoner. That’s just the way it is. I’d have some respect for him if he hadn’t built his life around that experience, but he basically made a career out of it. Or I might have some respect for him if he hadn’t turned into a world class asshole. But he did.
McCain’s treatment was “preferential” in the same way being kicked in the groin is “preferential” to being hit in the face with a baseball bat. What? He only got tortured every other day? Oh, no big thing, then. I’d hardly call a random dude trying and failing to set compound bone fractures with no anesthetic, “better medical care,” either.
