The On This Day In History MMP

I’ve got court today as a result of the Terrible No Good Very Bad Day last month. Good results are expected.

Blurf.

Good morning!

We’re gonna have severe weather today, starting around 9:00 am. Thunderboomers, high winds, tornado alerts, flooding… Yee-haw! Around 20,000 people are already without power because high winds damaged transformers and power lines.

I brought my lunch so I don’t have to go out in the mess.

Happy humping!

1947:

Capone’s control and interests within organized crime diminished rapidly after his imprisonment, and he was no longer able to run the Outfit after his release. He had lost weight, and his physical and mental health had deteriorated under the effects of neurosyphilis. He had become incapable of resuming his gang activity. In 1946, his physician and a Baltimore psychiatrist performed examinations and concluded that Capone then had the mental capability of a 12-year-old child. He often raved about Communists, foreigners, and Bugs Moran, whom he was convinced was plotting to kill him from his Ohio prison cell.

On January 21, 1947, Capone had a stroke. He regained consciousness and started to improve but contracted pneumonia. He suffered a fatal cardiac arrest the next day. On January 25, 1947 Al Capone died in his home in Palm Island, Florida, surrounded by his family.

I just got a nice PM from a doper that purchased a spoon ring from me. That made me feel much better.

I am not doing a very good job walking today after cruising around campus last night. I ended up stopping and buying a cane on my way home from school because, of course, my mom needs her own cane and my dad is now using the spare. Who would have thought that all three of us would need one at the same time?

Anyways, I figure once I don’t need it anymore, I’ve always got a chance at starting up a career in Vaudeville. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry to hear what’s going on with your dad, phoukaroo.

Oh, forgot to add: I was so glad my Dad decided to give up on driving himself, instead of us having to convince him. Good luck with your Dad, phouka.

Maybe I’m nuts but…

I’m currently between projects, which is self-employed speak for “paying taxes and no income”. And I’ve just rejected a request for an interview and said a polite version of “HELL NO!” to another project…
I’ve received the first one from five or six different agencies already, although this was the first one to call saying “I’ve got some people who want to interview you”. The project would be 1-2 days/wk for 4 months, basically blocking me from anything else while paying less than half what a normal job would. No way, José, not even if your lastname is Cuervo and someone hits me with the bottle.

The other one is from my Swiss customer, the one with the horrible designs, impossible policies, paranoid culture and a corporate unethic which made me want to take a flamethrower to the damn place. Make that hell no a size=11.
Now let’s hope one of the decent-looking irons I have in the fire crop up soon…

From the OP
1897 - Elva Zona Heaster is found dead in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. The resulting murder trial of her husband is perhaps the only case in United States history where the alleged testimony of a ghost helped secure a conviction. (Y’all have just got to love this one! )

Not only did her ghost say he was the killer but that he hadn’t been much of a brother either!

Hugs and congrats as appropriate (FCM et al)

Here. Spent yesterday afternoon and evening at the hospital again, running more blood pressure and blood work tests. One tube for tests, five for the vampires in the basement.

I’m fine but Step-MiL and Mr. Lissar were forcefully pointing out that I am not actually resting, I’m just not doing quite as much as usual. For the three days that my Step-MiL cleaned everything, wrangled the kids, and did most of the cooking. It was blissful.

I can’t wait to have these babies and have the twice-a-week dance to the hospital over. I want to have them in about a week and a half, let me add, so they can come home and not stay in NICU.

On this day in history, my mom was born! 50 years ago exactly. We’re having her 50th party this weekend (along with her brother’s party, he was born within a week of her–8ish years later though). I promised not to bring any black balloons or dire joke gifts. And I won’t, because I’m not mean.

Happy birfday, mum!

Goin’ to the dentist. Getting my bite plate replaced so I no longer grind my teeth down to nubs while I sleep. Yippee!

(Seriously, people, I actually LOVE my dentist and her entire staff. They are the coolest people ever. Plus, she keeps a basket of lemons from the tree in her yard that you can take from.)

Well, that was a long, boring day in court. Went well, I dismissed all my plaintiff charges. Two more are pending, but that’s looking likely to be dismissed as well.

Then I failed my car inspection. Two sensors going out–knock and O2. Plus I have a wheel bearing loose. The good news is I have 60 days to fix the sensors.

Yikes Spaz! Yay on the court but yikes on the wheels.

Home from Evening Prayer. ‘Twas nice. We’re hostin’ a convocation meetin’ on Sattidy for Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Lay Readers. I get to go early to make coffee and set up stuff so’s we can be all hospitable. Cause I’m nice dammit!

Now I shall go lie upon the bed and watch teevee 'til sleepy bye time.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

It’s almost bedtime here, too.

I was kind of freaking out because my sign language teacher assigned Unit 1 as homework on Tuesday (for tomorrow). Yeah, uh, so Unit 1 is six pages of stuff that we’ve already learned in class. So, that means I can go to bed quite a bit earlier than expected. Yay!

And now I have a swollen lymph node in my right armpit. I was so hoping I was going to avoid the Mild Plague that’s been circulating at irk.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 62 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 76 and rain overnight tonight. Rah.

Spaz may the plague pass you by.

Ok I got nuttin’ else. I need more caffiene and brekkie for rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.

Oh there is one thing. Poke chops for dindin tonight. I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for some.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. UNC vs, Wolfpack Bball tonight. My “just friend” and I are on opposite sides on this. Bless her heart.

Spaz, hope the plague isn’t too bad. Congrats on the court thing.

swampy, that sounds good. Email me one?

Insomnia sucks, day 8.

doggio I would but the last time I emailed a fried poke chop it made the little thingy I put the poke chop in to email all greasy and gunky. I didn’t think I’d ever get it clean!
