The On This Day In History MMP

Ayup. I did the seroma thing, too. VWife thought I was stabbed, while I didn’t even realized it was draining until she saw it. Ultimately a non-event except for the cleanup.

Dark poultry and prime beef will be his dietary friends, but not his wallet’s. I learned early to cook with meat tenderizer instead of salt. Cooking meat to preserve water content helps, too. To this day, I avoid game like venison. The touchiness to stringy meat will get better, but never be as good as pre-op.

There’s something even worse than prime rib, financially speaking… Sashimi. The good/bad news is that he likes it and it seems to like him. The bad news is that “sashimi” is a Japanese word for “frightfully expensive raw fish.”

How long was it before you were able to eat beef in the form of steaks or something like pot roast? One of the diet “cheat sheets” he got says it can be up to a year before your newly-remodeled innards can peacefully tolerate beef. As for preserving moisture, he likes his steaks “blue” rare, so plenty moist, but I don’t know how nearly-raw beef will be for him. The cheat sheet recommends medium-rare, but doesn’t specify if that’s only medium-rare, or just not overcooked.

Rosie thanks for today’s lesson but we don’t need to learn too much lest we get all uppity. I mean, we aparently do have a tablecloth. We can’t put on too many airs now can we?

Howdy from irk. Messin’ around for a bit cause it’s kinda quiet and I want to mess around some.

Afternoon all!

I is being a panicky Filbert- just got an interview invite for a job which I’m actually quite interested in… Should be a yay!, problem is, me back’s gone really horrid again (not sure if I mentioned- I got the scan results back last week, and I have one badly slipped disc, and ‘several’ others starting to bulge  - way worse than they’d said it was likely to be- I was told ‘one might be bulging, a bit’).

Interview’s in two days, I desperately need smart-type clothes (been putting it off for ages ‘cos I hate clothes shoppin’), but I can barely walk to shop. I’m also not sure if they’re going to take one look at me, and decide I’m far too broken to be of any use- I thought the back issues were basically better when I sent the application, and barely mentioned them- then it’s all flared up again.

Panicpanicpanic… I’m awful about the whole interview thing at the best of times!

breathes in… aaand out

Anyway, happy birthday Bob the wonder pony!

Well, I made it to school and I’m waiting for my first class to start. Unfortunately I have to get back in my car and drive to my second class and walk even further than I did for this one. That should be interesting.

My dad just sent me some pictures of his car. The front doesn’t look too bad, but the entire trunk is nonexistent. I’m so glad he wasn’t driving my grandparents smaller car at the time. (He had been driving it earlier that same day.)

Ok, off to class I go.

I believe it was 4-5 months before I attempted a steak; VWife had her surgery 3 months following mine, so I ate sympathetic to her. I ate a lot of burger and processed meat until she was ready.

DH needs to be very careful around rice. It has a tendency to swell, and will plug him up FAST. I have a fondness for the California/seaweed roll type of sushi, and even 7 years later, I can’t do more than a light sampling. I remember trying Korean food while she was in the hospital, and it did not go well.

I’m the one sitting next to Terry Brooks!

I learned something today: Don’t do yoga for the first time in two years and then stand for eight hours the next day. The backs of my thighs, they are a-hurtin’.

Is this the week FCM is on her cruise? I didn’t realize she hasn’t been around lately.

Happy birthday Bob the Wonder Pony!**

I prefer to call him Emperor Bootsie.

One of the requisite characteristics of life is “irritability”, so apparently, I’m still alive.

sigh

I wrote this long, whiny ramble and disgusted myself, so I deleted it.

Would someone please smack me with a dead fish and tell me to get over myself?

Yikes. I’d hate to think what a California roll would do to him. Thankfully, even before surgery, he’s never been a big fan of rice.

Ah, it’s almost beer o’clock.

smack You’re a special person and have a right to be irritable.

I’m wondering why I’m doing taijitsu after all. I’m not going to be able to finish by the April black belt graduation without some private lessons - which run $75 a pop, and I’ll need at least seven. The teacher annoys me with his in-your-face (and often unloving) Christianity and conservatism. As far as I see it, there are really no pros to me go - except I’ll get a black belt. Yay?

I’m probably never going to need anything I learned there, won’t remember it if I need it, and won’t be able to pull it off if I do remember it, so it’s not even a matter of learning self-defense. And it means that I’m at the dojo every night until eight, I have to leave work early a couple of days a week, I’m getting myself into more debt paying for it, and my plans for moving out are on hold until I finish (I plan to move to an apartment less than ten minutes from work - which is 45 minutes from the dojo). So I don’t know if it’s worth it.

Thank you, ma’am! May I have another?

Is there another dojo in your area to go to? A different martial art that you might enjoy? Another teacher who actually lives the philosophy of karate as well as teaching the blows?

There’s benefit in working to achieve something like a black belt in that the discipline employed to achieve it is an achievement in and of itself. The physical activity of the work is good for your health. But, the stress of dealing with an incompatible teacher isn’t.

If this teacher/this dojo/this martial art/this exercise doesn’t do it for you, is there something you can replace it with?

Everyone wants me to get my black belt - I’ve only got 85 lessons left, but yeah…

I haven’t read this thread yet - where does the time go???

But I got this recipe in my daily recipe emails, and thought of you, dear Swampbear.

I give you… the Burly Burger!

Rebo top the “Burly Burger” with some burly butcher bacon and it’d be heart attack burger heaven! However, I would grill the burgers. This may happen soon.

Sketties was (were?) good! I sent MOG (she came over for sketties) home with a quart jar of sauce and have some frozen for later dindins.

Now I shall go lie upon the bed and watch teevee for a bit until sleepy bye time. I’s tahrd!

Nitey Nite Y’all!

I slogged through another day of work. I can’t wait until Thursday, because that’ll be my Friday.

I’ve got ribeyes out for dinner. I’m thinking I’m just going to make veggies to go with. I’m not particularly hungry and my stomach is just on fire anyway. I don’t know why.

I’m not going to smack you, phouka. Sometimes life’s little irritations just sort of stack up. It’s okay to vent.

How’s this?

Yesterday, Dad passed his written test to renew his driver’s license - something Mom and I had been SO sure he would flunk, we were trying to figure out ways to get him to give up his car.

Today, he nearly caused an accident by coming to a complete stop after turning right onto the street leaving our neighborhood. He saw me waiting at the light to turn left to leave and decided he needed to get my attention and wave at me. The car turning behind him nearly plowed right into him, and the driver started gesturing and muttering. Dad didn’t notice a damn thing.

And one of the two questions he missed on his test? What the legal BAC limit is. Okay, fair enough. He forgot the part about how most states have lowered it to .08. The problem is that this offends him. Blood Alcohol Content and Driving Under the Influence are “technicalities”, and he shouldn’t have been tested on them. You know, because the cause of half of all traffic fatalities really doesn’t matter. Especially when he’s fond of polishing off an entire 750 ml bottle of Chardonnay in an evening. (I try really, really hard to make sure he goes NOWHERE when he’s been drinking. He’s scary enough when he’s sober.)

GAH!

Harvey -

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 54 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 75 for the day and sunny. Kinda Spring like again today. However we shall have a cool down in the next few days with highs only in the 60s. Then again, we still have February to get through and that’s when we can have real Winter in these parts.

Harvey that’s scary! One can only hope your dad will realize he shouldn’t drive anymore. Either that or hide the keys. Dealin’ with an agin’ parent is tough. Hang in there. Like Taters (btw hope you’re tummy is feelin’ better Taters) said, it’s ok to come in here and vent. That’s part of the reason we Mumpers are here.

gotti sounds like you’re on the mend. YAY!!! Also sounds like some mendin’ underway for DH too. Hang in there y’all.

Now I shall seek more caffiene and feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification shall commence. At least it’s Hump Day.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Morning. Up, caffeinated, off to irk. Doubt I’ll be doing much humping today. I Peggyed Roomie on Words with Friends last night.

Glad your getting better, gotti.
