The On This Day In History MMP

Hi** Eve**! It’s less dusty in this corner. Also, we have a table cloth.

Happy Birthday, FCM!

Happy Birthday, Wiki!

I have 2 dates:

One is borrowed from Puggy, who posted it on Facebook: Today in 1957 (the year I was born  ), the inventor of the Frisbee sold his rights to Wham-O.

The other just showed up in my Twitter feed, posted by the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History. On this day in 1943, Duke Ellington debuted “Black, Brown and Beige.” at Carnegie Hall. Here’s theirtweet.

Glad your dad is coming home, Sticky, although he clearly needs to work on timing.

Tired. Need Nap. But brother is heading out to Chicago in about an hour, so I think we’re going for a walk first.

Hugs all.

GT

Wait, we have a tablecloth? The good tea set? You mean the matchin’ set of Simpsons mugs? We have tea? I thought that glass canister was for Ovaltine. Did somebody put the brick back under that chair by the table so it won’t wobble?

I had no idea we’d gotten so fancy!

Glad you’re dad’s home or on the way home StickyBuns! Plus you needed that pain pill. You gotta get better too.

Tablecloth? Holy fancy pants batman! We are laying out the big guns

We made it home back to OKC. Since we got back I have picked up dry cleaning, dropped dry cleaning, bought birthday card for my sister, been to post office to mail card to my sister, bought stamps, gased up the work truck ready to leave for AR tomorrow, unpacked, load of laundry done, jeans drying, second load ready to go in, prepped the veggies for supper, sorted out a bunch of mail, paid a bunch of bills, scanned something mr ems needed, played with LibbyCat and given her a bunch of treats and now I have my feet up while super is baking (parmesan crusted tilapia as it is what we had in) but I need to go get the bag of toiletries sorted out before we eat so I can sit and be lazy for the rest of the evening. I will pack for my AR trip in the morning.

mr ems dad was doing OK today when we left to head home. He is hanging in there although he misses his wife terribly. 61 years married is a long time to be with someone.

Is it Friday yet?

I really wish it was Friday,** ems. ** Missing three days of work because of the Winter Wallop really hit us hard.

I’m glad your father in law is hanging in there. When my father in law passed, he and my mother in law had been together close to 50 years. It was hard for her too.

I don’t know why you all think we have a tablecloth. Don’t you remember? Someone spilled red wine all over it and we couldn’t get the stain out. I thought we had agreed to to stick to those felt backed plastic jobbies. With a gingham pattern, even!

Dinner is in the oven. Easy stuff, because the day was long and I had to stop at the grocery store too. By the time I got home, I had no desire to actually prepare anything. So it’s Stouffer’s mini meatloafs and mac and cheese. Also, I have some spinach.

That’s about all that’s going out here in Taterland.

Blurf. Carry on.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 60 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 71 for the day. Oh and a chance of rain. 'Tis also very foggy out.

Other than that I got nuttin’ this mornin’. Glad y’all made it back home safe and sound mmmmmm’s. Have a safe trip to AR.

Da bear needs more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Since I was silly enough to think yesterday was Sunday…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOOOOOOOOOOM AND WIKI!!!

I’m getting the hang of this daytime thing, even if I’m not getting the hang of days. I managed to get the one time sensitive assignment that I had done without a mad dash of OHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT!!! I’m sleeping at night and getting up in the morning, even if it does mean I have to go to bed at 8 or 9 to be up at 5. Blech.

I didn’t actually have to get up at 5 today but I’m still trying to adjust for when the gym opens in 2 weeks.

So anyway, I was woken up by the sound of my roof leaking. Turns out, it wasn’t my roof leaking. My fish tank needs water.

Too awake to go back to bed and too lazy to actually put water in the tanks so here I sit, waiting until it’s no longer too early to go to school and listening to then tank making me have to pee. I planned ahead this time. My voice recorder is fully charged and waiting for Professor Binns (so named by Sweetie for you Harry Potter fans).
Oh and I would like to state for the record that the Iliad is really freaking BORING!!! All they’ve done so far is argue over who gets to keep their girlie plunder and who has to give them back. Never in my life did I think I’d find boring mythology.

I dislike getting up at five.

My step-MiL is here, so after we’ve got both the kids up and breakfasted and sort-of dressed, I’m going back to bed. Gnat was up three times with nightmares last night, and I didn’t get to sleep until after eleven.

Blah.

When does Mooooom get back from her cruise?

I’m beginning to wonder if she was on a 3 hour tour, or her boat got too close to some Eyetalian island.

Cool, we can start pregaming for my birthday.

Had a good day yesterday. Canes won, and my “just friend” was able to come to the game with me.

Glad Dad is coming home, Sticky. And you need the pain pill.

BBBobbio, I do wonder how you say “Hey, y’all, watch this!” in Italian.

: shakes LiLi : Are you asleep yet?

ETA: First on two! Woot!

Afternoon, all! I am at irk and irked slightly. They have finally appointed someone to this post but have no confidence their new person will actually stay very long. Sadly that means my temp job is coming to an end next month so hopefully the agency will be able to find me something else reasonably quickly. It is annoying because the girl who’s taking over the job has made it very clear (post-interview) that she’s holding out for a permanent post (this will only be a 12-month contract) so it’s pretty obvious that she has no real intentions of staying longer than it takes for her to get the job she really wants.

Anyway, the agency does lots of university contracts so they may well be able to find me something else here so that I don’t miss out on the joy of herding kittehs.

And it’s weigh-day at Fat Club tonight so I’ll have to finally face up to the damage that Friday’s cocktails have done. Sadly the weekend’s Wii time won’t have been enough to mitigate much of it! Oh well, there’s always next week…

:grumble: too early…

Where IS FCM? Have we offended her delicate sensibilities? Alllllll these birthday wishes and… nada.

Gray, blah day here. Perfect day to run another truckload of boxes to the storage bin and maybe make some soup.

Updates on both your neck and DH’s weight loss, please.

morning all! I think that FCM’s cruise was two weeks, believe it or not. So they won’t be back until this coming weekend. Hope they’re all having a good time!

Happy belated birthday Spaz! I think I sent wishes to you on facebook. I’m still sorting out who is who there. LOL

It’s chilly and rainy here today, so far. Hopefully there will be none of the white stuff - at least, none that hits the ground and stick.

Everyone stay careful and Sticky, you and your Dad be especially careful whilst walking!!

“Ehi, y’all. Guarda questo!”

Today is Bob teh Wonder Pony’s birfday. He’s 27!!1!! I bought him when he was 2 (almost 3), so almost 25 years together. That’s longer than my marriage lasted. Anyway, happy birthday to the one whose face I’m always happy to see.

Vada a bordo, CAZZO!” (OK, that’s actually “Get back on the ship, DAMMIT!!”, but it’s too good to pass up :))

Happy Birthday MooooooM, Wiki, and (belated) Spaz! (and anyone I’ve missed during my latest absence.)

Did I see **Rigs **show up while skimming last week’s MMP!? ::waves enthusiastically::

Still skimming, hoping to get more time later this week (but not really counting on it :()

Nooner! How’s Armageddon looking this week?

I still have a neck. It’s amazing how many people I know that have had neck surgery - they see my scar and a couple of them have said that the surgeon did a wonderful job of locating the incision, as well as closing it.

Apparently the ultimate recovery is along the lines of getting 70% of the improvement immediately, then it can take a few months for everything to settle out. Muscles are still sore from being stretched far more than normal, and unfortunately, the nerve damage that was initiated 13 years ago might never fully recover. As it is, just over a month post-op, I have greater range of motion than I can ever remember, which has been useful for driving. Used to be that I could often turn my head to the right only about 45 degrees before hitting a hard stop. Now, I can turn my head either direction and see my back.

I do have some issues with my left hand that point to trouble with the C8 nerve root, but that should be able to be resolved with a microdiscectomy and a roughly one-week recovery.

At last weigh-in, DH was down 41 pounds. He did have trouble with a seroma early on. Essentially, it’s an accumulation of fluid internally. Some need to be aspirated, but DH’s simply found a way out via one of the incisions and was just messy.

Now, he’s at the point of figuring out what’s easily edible and what’s going to cause problems. Tried a small hamburger patty last week and found it to taste like clay. White chicken sits like stone. In the “Now they tell me!” category, yes, that’s typical. Contrary to pretty much any traditional diet advice, he needs to stick with dark meat as it’s moister and will exit the stomach peacefully and in the preferred direction.
