The Onion calls Quevanzhane Wallis a cunt.

Missed the edit window: Also, crap, the 9/11 jokes must be in some other routine of his. Just look up Jimmy Carr on YouTube, there’s a ton of stuff out there.

Thanks for your efforts. I found thisone. It had everything just like you mentioned it, including the 9-11 bit.

He made a good effort at offending. I heard a joke by Bob Saget before, about his newborn ailing daughter. I tell you, some comedians make an art form of trying to find the most twisted jokes to shock with.

Hey, while looking up Jim Carr, I found this bit on bullyingwhich I liked. I wonder if the heckler in that bit is planted. I always wonder about hecklers being plants when it is a televised concert performance.

I laughed. I guess it must be because I enjoy shocking humour. Give a surprising/absurd punchline and you’ll “get” me almost every-time.

Yes! That’s the one. It’s a better version than the other one I posted too. (Sorry about the hijack, I just was reminded of that bit and it’s kind of half-assedly relevant.)

And just to throw in something that is actually relevant, I just ran across this: Not all layers of an Onion are equally worth peeling back. (from Popehat).

If we’re correct that the joke was aimed at lampooning the bitchy celebrity media, I’d say the joke was nonetheless ill advised because it’s kind of a hacky joke. In order to wring the humor out of it, they had to go over the top by calling an eight year old girl a cunt. But that juxtaposition, between the harshness of the insult and that its target is the last person anyone would expect to be the recipient, isn’t particularly novel or funny.

I’m thinking maybe the Onion should avoid the live-tweeting thing and stick with brilliantly crafting stories.

That kid is a bit of a cunt. I mean, all kids are, pretty much.

For instance, again like most kids her age, she’ll say something cheeky or inappropriate and then throw in a “Just kidding” as if that makes it ok. It’s cunty. I hate when the little fuckers do that.

I read the article that MsWhatsit linked, and he wasn’t very persuasive for me.

There is something else at play here, that I hesitate to bring up, but what the heck.

The dude who tweeted that tweet is British, according to the article I just read. I guess cunt isn’t the same big deal in Britain. But you know something? I swear to god, I only learned that ‘cunt’ was the WORST WORD EVER from this board.

In black American culture, it just isn’t a word we used to use or care about. If a girl called you a bitch, she might get a beat down, but if she called you a cunt you would just sort of look at her with a confused look on your face.

After the internet kind of merged black and white American culture into an internet culture, I think cunt started to come into Black culture to the extent that we learned it is supposed to be super offensive. There is a black rapper out now, Azealia Banks, and she took to using the word a lot in her music, so it got some more ‘play’ in black culture, but overall, it back in the day, it just wasn’t this horrible word to us.

But now, I see black women falling all out and rending their garments because this precious angel was called the WORST WORD EVER.

Seriously, it’s just outrage for the sake of outrage. It is the exact kind of self serving dramatics that the Onion has always mocked, and I am totally like fuck em if they can’t take a joke.

ETA: The more I look at that article, the weaker it gets for me. The way he breaks down and criticizes the Onion apology is just silly. Bad article.

I’m still more intrigued by Nzinga’s ‘black board’. I knew there were boards for white supremacists, but not boards for general ethnicity stuff. What kind of stuff do y’all talk about.

Now that I’ve broached the topic, I’ve a question I’d like answered if it isn’t too much trouble: Is it true that when white people get wet they smell like wet dogs?

Attack, I haven’t noticed that particular smell coming off of white people, but yes indeedy, that is a common ‘joke’ in some black circles.

Black boards aren’t like white supremacists boards. There are boards that focus on news about black celebrities, black music, black art. They use black English, speak with Black slang and generally indulge in the kind of black culture that white Americans don’t indulge in.

So, say, I’m on this board, trying to get yall to understand how “we be at the store” doesn’t mean “we are at the store right now” and EVERYBODY on this board says I’m wrong. I would go to the black board and EVERYBODY would say that I’m right.

I read “we be at the store” as “so, we were at the store” or possibly “we will be at the store later.” “We are at the store right now” would be “we at the store.”

Great job, pravnik! Although, actually, it would mean BOTH ‘so, we were at the store’ AND ‘we will be at the store later.’

But, we have had some long ass threads on this board about this. I…I haven’t healed enough to go back into it.

Right, because isn’t “we be + [verb]ing” basically like saying “we usually/generally/often/tend to [verb]”? Therefore, *both *“we were” and “we will be”.

So if you said, “We be at the store,” you mean, “You can generally find us at the store,” or “We’re at the store all the time.” Or if I asked, “What do you guys like to do on weekends?” then you might answer, “Oh, we be at home most weekends.”

Nzinga, I understand if you’re too traumatized to respond fully. If you can, just blink once for “yes” and twice for “no”.

blink

I’m curious to know too. Was it,

“Kill Whitey” or
“Whitey be trippin” or
“I hate Whitey” or
“Jesus was not a whitey.” or
“Whitey is the dumb” or
“Whitey has tiny ding-dings” or
“Whitey has no ass” or
“Whitey, whitey, everywhere damn! there’s a lot of whitey”
c’mon help a whitey out.

Enjoy.

If you really want to know: here.

Wow… The OP of that thread sure enjoys getting outraged, he’s the one w/ the current thread about witnessing in ATMB right now.

Please, can we all get back to talking about the cunt? You know-- Steve Hannah.

You realize that is the equivalent of pulling out my baby pictures, right?

You know, as I think some more on MsWhatsit’s point about everyone having a line…I have to admit that I’ve been indulging in a bit of my own self-righteousness. I am getting annoyed that other’s are offended. That’s no good. They have every right to be offended just as I have every right not to be.

Snarky Kong, I would like to know more of what you think on the topic. You have made some interesting posts in this thread that you didn’t really expound on. In the article that MsWhatsit posted, I followed the link to a feminist blog and she seemed to be saying something similar to you…that the tweet was a commentary on Hollywood and celebrity and the media and, according to her, women. Is that where you were going with your posts?

You’re right and I apologize. I should have let you decide whether or not to share that and I should have taken your silence on the topic as an implicit denial of permission.
