The Orville Season 2

It’s for the benefit of those of us watching at home, of course.

Well, they had to have someone there to greet the Orville, no?

They should have portrayed everyone but Isaac sans eyes. Would achieve the same thing while actually making sense.

Butthen where would the guns have come from? THe fingers? c’mon, this is a serious show - can’t have the bad guy pointing a laser finger at someone and going ‘pew pew’ now can we?

Indeed.

Why are the Kaylon’s of differing heights?

When Claire confronted Isaac, Isaac was clearly breathing (presumably because the actor inside was affected by the intensity of the scene) (hat tip to Dendarii Dame for noticing the breathing).

Victor Garber looked much older than he did last season - I hope he’s okay.

I think the bigger what is what is “Isaac”? Is Isaac the hardware or the software? IIRC a past episode implied it’s the latter. If he’s software then I don’t see why he can’t be duplicated. Also I think Isaac’s “reports” include all of his memories so any random Kaylon could (as long as they had blue “eyes”) impersonate so convincingly the crew wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. It’ll be interesting to see if the crew (& by extension the audience) have been anthropomorphizing him way more they should.

I did wonder about the question of identity (as well as the question of why different Kaylon have very similar forms - why?). Since they were invented (and not evolved in some sort of machine ecology), I suppose that their creators might have built-in some limitations regarding what forms they can take (or are willing to take) and how much individuality they have.

Did anyone else think the scene where the security chief (whose name I haven’t learned yet) leads Isaac to his farewell party was a direct copy of Lando leading Han and Leia to Vader?

I thought that we were going to get another 10 minutes of hugging.

Purple = badass

I was hoping for more cake

You misspelled “Bad Motherfucker.”

I dunno, but Mercer telling ISAAC to search his database for a speech, and him deciding on Sally Fields had me rolling.

One suspects we are supposed to, given the title of the two parter …
So in the teaser for next week Kelly is seen saying “we need to work together if this is going to work”

Is, as suggested earlier in this thread, the “we” the Krill, now joining against a more existential threat despite their fundamentalism (as Moclus also tolerates what is to them heathenism for the benefits to continued survival on a tough planet)? Not a bad thought. And the theme of fundamentalist/religious societies joining (Moclus) or not joining (Krill and Rigor 2 of Birthday Cake) a more secular broader coalition and its difficulties, is clearly one the show is interested in and in making its modern era comments about.

Or Issac and possibly some others? One can imagine a Hugh the Borg callback here. Remember that Hugh’s programming being corrupted with individualism was starting to spread like a virus as he rejoined the Borg, disrupting the hive mind? Issac’s programming is similarly corrupted with an analogue of affection (or at least codependency) … Claire, and perhaps biologicals, have metaphorically “gotten under his skin”, in his machine way. And I am wondering if the way they go is that his programming thus corrupted has begun to spread and leads to a faction of Kaylons revolting against Prime’s leadership, and being the other part of that “we” …
Yeah the Sally Field speech was a good bit. The humor was not so broadly placed this ep but what there was was very good.

I was less enthralled about the plot turn (I mean, it was both predictable and trite, in a way) than I have been recently, but I loved the subtle humor touches. And having Malloy sing an Air Supply song was awesome. I love the way the show uses music in many episodes.

I LOVED the whole bit about Dr. Finn and her kids coming face to face with the reality of Isaac the machine. I just am waiting for the other shoe to drop, when we learn what Isaac has really become as a result of his experiences on The Orville.

They obviously built the entrances to the caverns, but the caves themselves looked natural, not built.

And it would be a waste of energy to vaporize them. Many were probably herded into the caverns for elimination. For those who weren’t, it is still more energy efficient to throw the bodies onto piles and let bacteria and scavengers do the work.

Only if a corner piece is available.

Why must we think it’s all about super duper efficiency? Maybe it’s more hording mentality. Those bones contain information. It costs them little to leave them where they dumped them.

If you prick him, does he not leak?
