The Orville Season 2

Yeah once something is posted in thread I don’t think I’m doing any damage there. You think rereading something already posted in thread spoils it more?

I would assume they med scanned Mercer’s GF, too. Anybody on the ship should have a baseline physical.

Maybe they learned they lesson!

Did she show up with fake orders, or did the Krill kill the real Janel Tyler?

I think/thought it was stated in episode that she had been avoiding the physical.

Good catch, and good planning on the writer’s part.

FWIW I am on your side regarding this point.

Because she supposedly had a fear of doctors because the Krill doctors mistreated the prisoners.

I though the pee cup scene was funny. Not because of Talla, who comes off as kind of wooden to me, but because the body language of the Krill diplomats was really great. They pulled off “impotent outrage” perfectly. That joke should have been the capstone.

When Talla suggested the Krill go behind the pile of boxes to provide the urine samples, I was SO expecting a “pee corner” reference. I can’t decide if I’m disappointed that there wasn’t one.

That was the reference.

After the Krill accused Orrin of destroying their ships with nothing but a shuttle, and a scan for weapons on the shuttle turned up negative, I told my wife “she’s the weapon.” But I was thinking more like telekinetic power or something.

Two things I found very distracting in this episode:

  1. The actor playing Orrin reminded me a lot of Phil Coulson.
  2. The woman playing his “daughter” looked like Chris Kattan in drag.

Me, too, and the 'not quite right’ness of the resemblance was bugging me the whole damn episode.

It does raise some interesting questions about Krill culture & society that the high ranking VIPs just showed annoyed compliance with Talla’s increasing invasive boarding protocols instead of just leaving. I wonder if in a future episode Mercer & his senior staff end up having to pay an official visit to a Krill ship.

Agree that it was a so-so episode thanks to a couple flaws.

I didn’t like the rubber glove joke, and I didn’t know why Mercer was so insistent on 5 more minutes – I mean, I get that he wants to stall them as long as possible but at the point where Talla is saying she’s pissed them off enough (literally), and right now you’ve got nothing…well, time’s up.
If Mercer was on to some lead then fair enough, but at that point he was not.

And yeah, what happened to the girl? Overall the ending seemed very sudden after what had been a very slow build up.

I haven’t posted unboxed spoilers detailing next week previews, but I thought I’d share the other perspective:

I love “next week on” previews, and feel like I haven’t finished watching an episode until I see them. So much so that when an episode for whatever runs long and my recording cuts out in the middle of the previews, I get bummed out as if I missed the end of the actual show.

For spoiler boxes in particular, I detest them. I won’t even read a thread with too many spoiler boxes simply because the logistics of them is unworkable to me. When I read a thread, I either scroll with the mouse wheel or (not uncommonly) engage smooth scrolling by clicking the mouse wheel. Having to aim the mouse at a spoiler box and click the spoiler button to open text is awkward and unpleasant compared to how I normally read threads.

So for me:

  • I love watching and talking about next week previews
  • I cannot stand spoiler boxes

But apparently I don’t matter. All that matters is the precious “Don’t spoil me with previews!” brigade and their solution of awful, awful spoiler boxes.

Yeah, I mean, I can use spoiler boxes, but I hate them so I don’t. As a result, I simply don’t talk about next week’s previews even though I frequently want to. So you guys win, I lose. Yay you?

A stunning rant against…your own predilections?

What exactly are you asking other people to do? Let you spoil episodes, and be happy about it?

I’m not asking people to do anything, nor am I intending to spoil next week previews for other people.

I’m just offering a counterpoint to the oft-posted sentiment that using spoiler boxes is a win-win for everybody. It isn’t.

I would never tell people they shouldn’t enjoy “next time” previews if that’s their jam. I will note however that I have heard again and again about them from the “auteurs” who make the shows, and in virtually every case they hate them and wish they didn’t exist. They have to accept them because the networks and their marketing departments insist on them. FWIW

The scene pretty much writes itself.
Krill Officer: Before we can begin, there are just a few minor boarding regulations we must adhere to…

Focus shifts to background shot of a large Krill snapping on a rubber glove

End Scene.
Maybe we have someone exclaim, “That’s the first step?”
