I wasn’t talking about in the latest episode, but rather when she was shot by the Kaylon guard.
They should at least of singed her uniform.
Good point.
Super strength wouldn’t be the only adaptation you’d need to survive on Xelaya. You’d expect hyper-dense skin, organs, bones, etc. Her skin should be like Kevlar.
And super strength without some level of invulnerability almost seems like a contradiction in terms (although that’s not true for the reverse).
Her body shaped would make her a natural to play a dwarf in The Hobbit.
Well, yes. If her super strong muscles were ripping up a tree trunk but it shredded all the skin from her hands in the process, doesn’t seem like a useful evolutionary adaptation*
*certainly not great for easy storylines.
Perhaps Seth didn’t think about this enough, although the Father being afraid to jump down a single story indicates they can be easily hurt on their planet.
But I assume they don’t tear up tree trunks on their home planet- they are only super strong off world. But that is just an assumption.
Just like Jor-El and Kal-El in the Superman story. Only strong when off of Krypton.
I would say it’s a little different, because Kryptonians get super strength from the yellow sun, whereas Xeleyans are super strong all the time–they just need their strength to overcome the heavy gravity. [ETA: Wow, that was a super nerdy sentence, LOL.]
Yes, great example to illustrate.
It has already been pointed out that it’s sort of relative. But if we’re picky, we can also note that objects on her planet would move completely differently. No amount of strength could make their movements look the same as humans on Earth.
The gravity difference was the original reason for Superman’s powers. The came up with the red/yellow sun thing later.
Some (including my wife and I) would say that’s the beauty of the show, not a problem with it.
The Doctor has yet to say, “He’s dead, Ed.”
Or “I’m a doctor, not a robot-humper.”
Wireless Telephone Facility - so common that they used to just use the acronym.
Heh. That was funny.
I really liked this episode–maybe my favorite of the season. The main plot was very well done–better, I think, than the similar ST:TNG episode. This one showed more of the developing relationship, and in a more ‘natural’ setting than the engineering room of a starship. I’m also glad that–as others here have commented–that there was no surprise reveal that she was his great-great-great-grandmother or something corny like that.
The Bortus sideplot with the cigarettes was hilarious.
I was happy to see Tim Russ, but I wish his role in the story had been larger.
Rewatched the B plot and I still love it. The actors behind Bortus and Klyden are perfect for their roles. The way Klyden ate the cigarette, and then after being admonished that it’s not food, says “I was curious to taste it” - he gets a gleam in his eye and an excitement like he was a little kid who stuck his finger in a chocolate fountain and got it slapped, but was still satisfied that he got away with it.
And later, when Klyden is going to try to force himself past Bortus to get to the synthesizer, Bortus just lays him the fuck out. Not a shove, or grappling, but just full on tries to blast his face off. Magnificent.
I think some people may think the Moclans get too many episodes, but seeing them put into situations where they act out very human situations in very non-human ways works perfectly for me.
LM is also on Single Parents, I am impressed with her range. OK maybe not that big of a jump.
I too was wondering if they were going to do the great^x grandma thing, glad they didn’t.
Not my favorite episode, but I liked it well enough and I like the variety.
