The Outer Wilds - my thoughts, speculations, and wonderings while I play. (spoilers as far as I am, no more)

I wonder what else there is for me to play now. I actually enjoyed the “hidden mechanics” aspect of the game, but I wouldn’t want to play one where the flying around is as repetitive as this game.

I really think above all else, I just liked the “Aha!” and “Oh…whaaaaat?” moments regarding your abilities and how things work.

I’ve played through part of the DLC. I like it so far, though not as much as the normal campaign. I think I’ve more or less figured out what I need to do, though there are a couple of steps I have yet to figure out.

I’m not sure I’d want to see another repeat of the game style. I find that I can only play a few cycles before I get kinda annoyed with something and put it away. The game does what is does very well, but I am sick of the starting sequence.

What have you figured out?

Well, I’m not looking for hints or anything–I know the immediate steps I need to take.

I found the big lockbox thing and clearly I need to unlock the three seals, which correspond to the three, uh, preservation rooms. Or whatever they are. I figured out how to light the artifact (kinda annoying, that one) and have explored around two of the shadow areas, though I haven’t yet finished them (I keep running out of time or dying for various reasons). Still, the areas seem pretty linear so I think it’s just a matter of plugging through.

I did spot the totem things that showed up on the slides. One of the shadow areas has at least two of them; probably more. One of them illuminated a bunch of lights on a bridge.

And there are the codewheels as well, which I suspect I’ll find out more about when I get through the shadow areas. The slides I’ve viewed so far don’t seem to have any info. But we’ll see; I may be missing something.

My suspicion is that in the end I’ll find a sequence of steps I need to go through, but they’ll take longer than the damburst, and so I’ll have to find an ordering that still lets me complete them. Almost certainly involving vising each of the three factions/areas and then making it to the lockbox before the supernova.

Cool, won’t say anything other than it looks like you still have some major gaming mechanics to learn in the DLC. Should be fun.

Tell us when you find something new!

That sounds on the right track in general. Very much in general.
