"The page cannot be displayed"?

Look, I understand, as has been pointed out many times in ATMB, that the SDMB uses an overburdened server, and since we’re paying nothing for our participation we can’t complain if a thread takes a long time to load. Even a very long time. I accept that.

But why do I keep getting “The page cannot be displayed”? Why can’t the system even TRY to load what I clicked? It’s so frustrating! And there’s no pattern to it, either – within two minutes, I might get “The page cannot be displayed” on one thread, and load another thread with no trouble, and they’re right next to each other in the same forum. What can I, or you, do about this?

Seriously, it may be your prefs or browser. I’m on Safari and it gives up trying to load after 90 seconds, but when I used Opera, it would try to load indefinitely. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Sometimes I could Stop and Reload, and it would download immediately.

I think that when a page is down, the whole board is down (from the user’s perspective). In can go up and down in the space of a few seconds, so it’s usually hit or miss. All you can do is cross your fingers. You get used to it after a while, and it epitomizes the saying, “Good things come to those who wait.”
