The Peanut Butter Sandwich: theme and variations

yes i’m sure i’ll be disillusioned soon lol just enjoying the honeymoon phase rn…

Just peeked in, saw “how reprehensible do YOU want to be in the pit?”, laughed, jumped out. I’ll have to be well fortified to wade back in…

Nah. I’ve been here for 20 years and still find it interesting. As long as you behave yourself in accordance with site rules, you’ll find it to be a good place to visit. The mods are diligent, unlike many other sites, and they know where you live.

Also, make sure you don’t bring the bullshit. Opinions have their place, but be prepared to provide cites for your statements or suffer the scorn of many.

I was on this board for at least a year before I ventured into The Pit. That was also back in the day when I didn’t care much about politics and it didn’t matter much. Now, sadly, I hang out there a lot.

The denizens of this board are very smart, well-informed, well-read, articulate people. Who know their grammar. (Yay!) And the board is well- (some-- not me-- might say “too-”) moderated. Lack of moderation has been the downfall of boards I’ve participated in in the past.

It’s a great place and almost passes for a social life.

This Pit is positively tame compared with what I’ve read on other message boards out there (and even the Pit here of yore.)

I, too, used to care far less about politics than I do now and can totally relate to that.
And obviously I’m slow but just realized your name… best movie ever.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will definitely not bring the bullshit! Scorn I can do without…

Sounds like you’re thinking of Thelma and Louise, a movie I’ve never seen. ThelmaLou is the girlfriend of Deputy Barney Fife who works for Sheriff Andy Taylor in Mayberry. She’s known for her cashew fudge. :slightly_smiling_face:

HA! Even better. I’d like some cashew fudge.

Peanut butter and banana gently mashed together in a bowl. Then spread on hot toast.

That warms the pb and softens it.

Pb and apple jelly on toast is always good.

I switched to Jiffy Natural, low sodium a few years ago.

I’ll eat regular pb but I notice how salty it is now.

This reminds me…the mother of a childhood friend of mine would scoop about half a jar of peanut butter into a container, mash a couple of very ripe bananas into it, and stir together for a snack spread.

It is a good way to use up ripe banana
and they mash easier.

I need to come up with a strategy for doing PB&Js at work. Bread doesn’t last long, and one of my coworkers is allergic to peanuts, so I need to figure out how to manage the bread and find an alternative nut butter. Also I need some new jelly. Something unusual, but not too expensive. Maybe I’ll look for some scuppernong grape jelly.

I’ve never tried Nutella with jelly, but that would probably be good. I’m very interested in chocolate peanut butter, which would be good with any berry jam, or maybe even orange marmalade.

I used to get toasted chocolate chip bagels with peanut butter, but now none of the bagel places around here have chocolate chip bagels.

They can’t be in the same room with a peanut butter sandwich?

That’s a Kinsey Milhone sandwich (Sue Grafton’s fictional detective in her alphabet series).

There was a place called Woody’s Smorgasboard that was a hangout when I was in high school. It was a really basic burger place: you ordered your burger and its doneness, then you took it to the condiments bar and put whatever you wanted on it. They also had a soft serve ice cream bar with chopped peanuts as one of its topping choices. I always got chopped peanuts on my hamburger. Delicious. Later, the late lamented Hamburger Hamlet had a hamburger with finely shredded lettuce, mayo, and chopped peanuts. My fav.

I tried Branston Pickle, but found it too sweet and not vinegary enough for my taste. Plus it had a murky undertaste that I didn’t care for.

That Woody’s sounds like a fantastic place!

Very cool. :sunglasses:

And the burgers were charbroiled. It was awesome. Emphasis on the was/were, sadly.

Sage in Durango makes an amazing PB&J.

It’s pan-fried, and sprinkled with a dash of savory salt.
Spectacular!

Ah, that sucks. Years ago at one of those corporate office breakfast things, someone asked me idly, “Why do they even bother with strawberry cream cheese? Like, for what?”

I wordlessly pointed at the chocolate chip bagels and watched realization dawn across her face.

As for the O.P. topic, I grew up with fluffernutters - and at age 40 { mumble } still occasionally make one, and yes I proudly take those fuckers to work and eat 'em in public.

But I don’t know that I’ve ever so much as tasted marshmallow fluff.

I make mine with those bagged mini marshmallows, carefully arranged atop extra-crunchy (if I can find it) but I use whole wheat bread to, yanno, make it all healthy.

I grew up in Massachusetts. The home of the fluffernutter. Marshmallow fluff and peanut butter sandwiches

I think they’re too rich with sugar now. I liked them in childhood. My mom wouldn’t let me have them very often.

I make Christmas fudge using the recipe on Marshmallow fluff jar. It uses a 1lb bag of sugar, a jar of fluff, chocolate baking chips and some other stuff. Very easy to make. I freeze half of the pan.
