Mariner fans are the ones who have the most to brag about. .760 winning pct! After they lose A Rod! Meanwhile, overpaid A Rod’s team is in last place. Got to love it!
Get rid of those overpaid, superstars. Sports is about team work!

Seems like the right time to bump this thread.
Is not! You should have waited till this slump was over…
and so the fairy tale ends. I’ll keep my broom handy for another sweep in a few days, try to get your team to show up at the ballpark this time.
“Wait 'til next year”.
How sweet it is. And thanks to RT for bumping this:)
[sub]Taking care of business . . . [/sub]
I just got back from Camden Yards, site of Travis Lee’s second game winning last-at bat home run in three days. Awesome.
Pinch yourselves, Phils Phans:
The Phillies are atop the NL East standings at the All-Star break!!!
Should be an interesting second half…I get the feeling (or is it just a hope?) that not winning is making the Braves hungrier. They have seriously picked up their game in the past few weeks, and still haven’t caught the Phillies.
Congrats, you guys deserve it.
Well, the impossible happened. The Phillies are back in first place.
Whoo!
Let’s be honest. They’re tied for first and the Braves are slumping for the moment (not hitting to be more precise). It looks like this division could be won by whichever team is not slumping at the end of the season.
I’m pulling for the Braves, but as long as the Mets are out of race I’m a happy man!
Yes, shall we? The Phillies and the Mets are tied for first place despite the I-can’t-believe-I’m-saying-this vaunted Phillies bullpen gave up four walk-off home runs in a week. They have three rookies in the starting rotation. Their best player is angling for an offseason trade, after getting bashed by the manager and a former manager this season. And, their best slugger is hitting grand slams almost as often as he strikes out.
Yes, the Braves are just biding their time. :rolleyes
Can you see what happens when I post before caffeine?
The Mets, alas, are chasing Les Expos for fifth place. Whereas the Braves and the Marlins are going to be fighting it out for the second place, I-hope-we-make-the-wild-card spot in the NL East.
Go Phillies!!!
I wondered where you’d gotten off to…You’ve been awful quiet for several weeks.
5 straight losses for the Braves, and every time I watch ESPN seems that Travis Lee is hitting bombs to win games for the Phils.
Hmm… begins plans for Kerrigan-style attack …
Actually, I wouldn’t need to if the F-n Braves couls WIN A GAME!!
Well, well, well… It took an intentional walk to end Maddux’s streak, but it didn’t matter, because the Diamondbacks hammered him.
Brandon Duckworth pitched seven innings of three-hit ball to move the Phillies back into sole possession of first place in the NL East.
Sorry, Braves fans. You might win the division again this year, but it’s not going to be handed to you like it has for the last nine. You’re going to have to fight it out, because the Phillies will not go quietly into that late summer night.
Lead: 1 game
Magic number: 45
Believe!
Jeez, you Phillie Phans are something. Your team starts scuffling and you disappear from this thread for more than a month. Then they turn it up a little, coinciding with a time when the Braves can’t score and you’re back in droves.
Where I come from they call that front-running, and it is not considered a class thing to do.
Now you’re ragging on the Braves for their past success as well. Check out your history before you start complaining what’s been handed to Atlanta.
BTW, can’t wait to hear your take on the Eagles.
Ahem. Want to take this to the Pit?
Anyway. There’s no point in posting to a thread called “The Phillies are atop the Nat’l League East standings!!!” when, in fact, they are not. Alas, there has been a few stretches this season (two days during April, a few in June, and most of July and early August) when the Phillies haven’t been in first place. I know it’s a shock to you Braves fan to look up and see another team in first place, but it’s common place to us Phils phans, alas. We hope to give you several more weeks of practice at it, so you can get good at it.
So, there’s no need to bump a thread that’s not relevant. You don’t see too many “Gore should be the president” threads now, do you?
And when have the Braves been not “not scoring?” It’s not like the Phillies are the Rockies, but they’ve scored 37 more runs than Atlanta. Every team (including the Padres, miss Ryan Klesko much?) in the NL West has outscored the Braves, and the only contending NL team the Braves have outscored are the Cubs (and that’s another thread).
I’ll admit that the Phillies have less experience at being in first in the league over the last two decades. But, I’ll never forget the '93 NLCS (the WS that year, however, I’d just as soon forget), and I hopefully won’t forget the 2001 playoffs too.
As for the Eagles, well, I’m sure that once they’ll learn how to beat the Giants they’ll win the NFC East. Last year, if they could’ve done that, they’d probably be in the Super Bowl. However, that’s a different thread, too.
(the above was my 3000th post, and I’m proud to do it in dephense of my beloved Phils!)
Phils win, Braves lose.
Lead of 2 games.
Magic number: 43
The most amazing feat is that this is win #66 for the 2001 Phightin’ Phils. How many did they win last year? 65.
Phils win, Braves win.
Lead remains at 2 games.
Magic number slips down one spot to 42.
Braves Win, Phils lose.
Right in yer rear view mirror.
1 Game.
I not a Phillies fan in the slightest, but Braves fans take note of where your team is its next series. I expect the Phillies to have a nice lead within a few days.
(I want a smiley face with a Giants cap.)
