I have been looking through a lot of old threads. I have come to a conclusion.
The pit used to be a lot better. Far more aggressive.
Just take a look here - I have actually chosen the url there randomly (as in the page= bit).
I am that confident the threads there will be infinitely better than today’s pit. Basically no one even posts in the pit anymore compared to back then. Although maybe that is starving artist’s fault and it has just been an exceptionally strange period recently. I don’t think so thought.
What is to be done? I am not a good writer, infact I’m not even a competent competent writer, so I can’t fix it for you. But what I will say is that the rules need to be relaxed to whatever they were back in the day. Then the good pitters will come back.
Since we can no longer tell people to go fuck themselves, it’s become a mere shadow of its former self. Like trying to ride a legless horse. I still don’t get the point of those rules, other than some sort of prudishness on the part of board administrators.
I don’t understand why. For me it links back to pit threads between this and this.
I am only looking at sdmb for 2 minute intervals betweenfamily guy/american dad episodes atm but tomorrow I’ll inevestigate the proper vbulletin querystring syntax to show you what I’m seeing; I should imagine my message board settings have something to do with this.
As I recall, the language rule was put in at (or about) the same time as the rule that mods could no longer be pitted for moderatorial activity.
I disagreed with both at the time.
I now believe that the rule regarding the pitting of moderators was a good change.
I still believe that the rule regarding language was a bad change.
Regardless of both of those, it’s all up to us what becomes of the Pit, isn’t it? I must admit, I made a pretty shitty Pitting just a few days ago. While it was an informative and heartfelt OP, it lacked creativity, invective, and nastiness, and deservedly held no interest for those unfamilar with Colorado politics, and little interest for those who are.
Should Bruce get convicted by the Feds, I’ll do better next time.
That was back when Ed Zotti decided he was going to get all hands-on and personal with us for a while. That’s kind of fizzled out, hasn’t it? If he doesn’t show up for a year, can we go back to the way it was?
