The Post T-Day MMP

Good morning! Yes, I am up and caffeinating already today. Ima head to the grocery store early, then my daughter and I will go out for a bit later on. Happy Saturday all.

Woke up around 5:30 and tried to doze back off - hah! So I’ve tended to the doggies, skritched poor Taz, and here I am for a little quiet before the pre-party insanity begins. I slept well - in fact I don’t think I woke during the night. Now that I’ve said that, I’ll be up at 2AM for the next month…

Speaking of poor Taz - he ventured to my lap last night as I sat here playing some stupid game. He absolutely does not get along with Abby, the dog-in-law. She chases him, and not playfully, so he’s been hiding a lot. No fun for a lap kitty. But last night, Abby was lying next to MIL on the love seat, and Taz got brave enough to come to me on the opposite side of the room. He settled in for a lap snooze till we decided it was bed time and **FCD **carried him to our room, where he snuggled between me and my sweetie and slept the night. He’ll be sooooooooo glad when Abby leaves!

It’s about 28F out at the moment. My MIL has been in a minor panic because the news guy said there might be snow on Sunday. Except the news guy was talking about north and west of DC, which is north and west of us. And he was saying a dusting. You’d think someone who grew up in Indianapolis would chuckle at the thought of even calling that “snow” - but she does love to worry.

In fact, yesterday as I was doing a count of how many folks said they’d be here today (I think I got up to 27, including us) she was suggesting I get out my folding camp chairs. I was more worried about having enough food. Frankly, I prefer the chair philosophy of not having enough - that way, people don’t just plant themselves - they move about - in search of seating! And that’s my plan for today.

OK, it’s not a plan, it’s a fact of life - we don’t have living room furniture. We don’t have any idea of what to do with that space. I think I need a consult with Mr. Swampington…

We also need a new DVD player. Ours won’t work unless you first unplug it for about 20 seconds. What a pain!! But it was a cheapie and it’s lasted 4 years - less than $10/year seems fair to me. Maybe midweek, I’ll venture out and get another cheapie.

For now, I need to plan today. I’ve got a batch of meatballs out to thaw. I need to make a shopping list - some more chips and cheese and crackers, I think. Not sure about sodas - I don’t want to get too many because they’re in 2-liter bottles and they’re hard to keep fizzy till they’re finished if it’s just for us. What to do, what to do…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. Soon I shall purtify and head up to da hometown for an overnight visit. Family is gettin’ together this afternoon to do our Thanksgiving thing. Plus tonight is the party.

It’s rainy out. Rainy all over everywhere I’m goin’ today. Woo and Hoo.

We’ll start with this f-aaaaaa-bu-lous sofa and decorate around it. :stuck_out_tongue:

swampy, I believe you missed a good source for “inspiration” pieces.

Awww, poor Taz.

Glad to hear the PhD is still on the radar, Haze. Look for somewhere other than Chicago unless The Guy leaves the area (sorry rigs). Seems like starting over completely new would give you the best chance to keep your emotions detangled (at least somewhat). Just my 2 cents.

I fell asleep at 9, woke up briefly a couple of times before midnight and then slept till almost 7. I think I needed it.

I’m going to de-crumb the living room and dining room (natural consequence of wily toddler eating crackers) and then clean the kitchen. I want to regrout the tub this week and finish sorting out everything that’s in the office (which, unfortunately has become the junk room). I’m off Thursday, so I’m hoping that between this weekend and next (and my day off) I’ll be able to have the house ready to receive Mom in 3 weeks and have whatever Christmas shopping and Christmas cards I have to put together all taken care of. (I’ve already determined that I have enough cards for this year).

Off to begin the de-crumbing.

Happy Saturday.

GT

Whew! Finally caught up. That’ll teach me to miss a couple days.

My T-Day was lovely. My Pumpkin Tiramisu was divine (recipe when I get back to work) and very easy to make. The green bean cassarole also good but the wild and basmati rice/cranberry/toasted walnut dressing not so much.

Did some Black Friday shopping yesterday but wasn’t all that impressed with the offerings. Where were all those deep discounts I heard about? I might venture out again this morning briefly.

rigs, I think TH has terminal cluelessness.

haze, The Guy is a big fat cheating liar who thinks it’s okay to ravage your feelings. There’s no possible way to excuse this behavior. He apparently doesn’t feel you are worth treading the straight and narrow in order to keep you. It’s your choice whether you want to keep hoping things will change but I don’t foresee much of a return in it for you if you do. I’m sorry if this seems harsh but why a beautiful young woman like you would waste yourself on such trash leaves me all :confused::confused:

li-li, people like your STBXSIL make me wish it was legal to use cattle prods on willfully ignorant people.

Anyway, gotta go get purtified as swampy says and get to the sto. Stay well, everybody.

Tupug

Good morning!

After we set up the new TV base/stand that Mr Rebo bought yesterday, I’ll be going to the park with the pups. Then I’m gonna go get a mani/pedi. And Mr Rebo just pointed out that the company party is next weekend! I thought I had another weekend to shop for a dress. I do have next Friday off if I can’t find anything this weekend. I ** really din’t want to go shopping this weekend. Oh well.

Have a great day, y’all!

slightly less blurfy today - yay.

**swampy **- you do that again and you’ll lose your gay decorating credentials - just sayin’…

**gt **- some of those couches are truly ugly, but some are just old and dirty and torn up - that’s not the same as ugly, IMNSHO.

I gots a big boo-boo. Taz was on the desk and stumbled, and I reached out to steady him. At that point, he launched himself into the air off my right hand, slicing me big time. I let it bleed a bit and ran cold water over it, then **FCD **put some triple antibiotic on it and bandaged it up. Oddly enough, it doesn’t hurt, but there will definitely be a scar.

I also got a claw poke in my palm, but that doesn’t hurt too badly. It bled like crazy, but it stopped pretty fast.

I’m just glad I got most of the cooking done - pretty much all that’s left is to warm up meatballs and stick the poke in the rotisserie. Daughter is baking her puff pastry right now. SIL is sweeping up. I need to shower, then when the van is ready, I’ll drop **FCD **off to pick it up and run to the grocery for a couple of things.

Guess I should shower now…

I am a sad case–I looked through the gallery, too and still couldn’t find it. Thanks.

I have a busy day ahead of me, I think.

Howdy, all. I’m contemplating getting purtified for FCM’s gathering. I just warned Papa Tigs not to eat anything else before we head out, after reading the list of food that’s being prepared!

One question, though, Mooooom – do you have diet sodas on hand, or should we bring a selection? Papa Tigs being diabetic, he obviously has to stick to non-sugared beverages. And what about coffee? Should we bring some lovely New Orleans coffee to [del]convert the masses[/del]drink?

Hey!

Been a busy day here, although not much to show for it other than an hour at the gym and some needed home-improvement shopping (which we had to do today, had some $85-90 in rebates good until end of November!)
Rest of the day was spent running loads of laundry, cooking, cleaning etc…

Hi Haze! Good for you for clearing things out. Hope you get a chance to go back to the US folr you PHD, and maybe eventually residency and even citizenship.

I’ve read most of the rest, briefly, and retained little – sorry people!

Herrow… Drinking the coffee does not seem to be unsticking my eyes, perhaps I’m supposed to dump it on my head? I dunno…

I’m having a reading fit, just finished up one book and have started the new Stephen King short story collection. So far I’m liking it.

{{{Haze}}} TG is a jerk. What a tool, what a maroon. What a pile of crap. I’d be more than happy to put the boot in on that feckless bit of trash, and twice on Sundays. You’re better off seeing the back of 'im and bad cess to him–may he get boils on his frenulum and be subject to anal fissures for at least the next ten years! Men. Bah!

Yawn… I need another nap…

Mornins! I’ve been up and decaffeinating (yes, sadly, it’s come to that) since way too darn early. So I’ve been wave skimming until it’s late enough for vacuuming. Which is soonish-ish now.

Allow me to procrastinate with a tale of a cat’s tail.

I had a breakthrough with my neighbors’ cats yesterday while I was over for pizza and a movie. Thin crust; one veggie, the other pepperoni, mushroom extra cheese. And Hancock. Loved it!

Boxer (the elder) is a Manx–he’s sans tail. Rob saved him from an abusive home, so he tends to be short tempered and a loner. He will sit beside no one other than Rob, or between no one but Rob and Wesla. He will run off to hide in the bedroom if new people are over.

During the last 18 months I have been relentless with my efforts to win him over. I have even slightly raised my voice to him as he’s run away from my attempted skritches,*"**I’m going to make you love me!" *** This has made Rob snicker, but Boxer now happily trots over to me to be brushed, and will come over to circle my legs while I get some rubs in on his side. Usually when I wear my black velvet lounge pants. The bastid.

Jo is the new girl, a gorgeous calico. She and her abandoned littermates were rescued and raised by a foster family. JoJo was adopted by Rob as a gift for Wesla. Jo’s a bit skittish, meows loudly, often, and seemingly for no reason. My lavender and lilac shampoo is catnip to her. She will smell, lick and try to bite my hair and scalp. I fend her off just by reaching out to pet her. That either sends her running or makes her move over to sit and groom herself.

Last night, Jo jumped up and curled up beside me on the loveseat for the first time. Boxer came out eventually, stared at Jo, looked (sneered?) at me and walked away. Jo, the instigator, got up and followed him. Sometime later Boxer returns, looks at me, then jumps up to lay down beside me! The thrill hadn’t worn off when Jo appeared. She then leapt up onto the arm of the loveseat and went around on the back of it to crawl down in behind Boxer. Boxer snapped his head in her direction and gave her a look, but he didn’t move.

I thought they were just going to be all cute and grab a nap, but nooooo. JoJo started stretching her legs out, claws exposed, wanting to push him right off the cushion. In other words, the game was on!

Boxer quickly got up to lie with his back paws near Jo’s face and his face in reach of her tail. Then JoJo began her taunting tail swishes.

flick.flick.flick…fliiiiiiiiiicccckkkkk…flick.flick.fliiiiiiiiiicccckkkkk…flick.flick

Boxer stretched his back legs out, pushing them on Jo’s chest and chin while he intently followed her tail. Jo shoved her front paws against Boxer’s belly and hindquarter, claws buried in his fur. Neither meowed ‘Uncle’.

flick…fliiiiiiiiiicccckkkkk…flick.flick.flick

Boxer lunged for Jo’s tail with his front paws, trying to bite it at the same time. He missed. And he missed again and again and again. Quite likely miffed, he sits upright, still all the while beguiled by his undulating quarry. Boxer tightened himself into a crouch, ready to uncoil a pounce that would deliver the coup de gras. Jo lifted up her head, presumably for a better view. The showdown had begun.

flick.flick.flick…fliiiiiiiiiicccckkkkk…flick.flick.fliiiiiiiiiickkkkk

Did Boxer unleash his pounce? No. He stood up, stretched and yawned, then flopped his entire body down on top of JoJo, squishing her into submission. He trapped her demon tail with his paws, gave it three sharp bites, and then fled for the safety of the bedroom!

Just like every curmudgeon I know: hard and crusty on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside.

Sending you all vibes for your terrible let-downs, your owies, and your busy, busy day filled with relatives and/or shopping.

Thanks again for the welcomes! I’m off to anwer the call of the Hoover.

Hi all. Long day, tired, over-stuffed and a bit bloated from eating too much Indian/Pakistani food for lunch! Enjoy the rest of your Saturday …

MamaTigs, please be sure to give Taz some scritches and/or pets from me!

Not much happening. Work. I’m bunny-sitting for a friend of my aunt’s; I live a heck of a lot closer to said bun than said aunt, so she asked me if I’d check in on him. Yesterday he (? I’m not actually sure) wouldn’t even look at me. I think he’s more than a bit pissed off. But his owner will be home Sunday night, and I need to let her know that I’m more than happy to bunny-sit (or other creature-sit, for that matter, I know she’s got a menagerie and her dog is such a sweetie!) in the future.

Actually went shopping today!

Went to Michael’s and bought soap making kits for the little girl. SHe want to make gifts for her aunties and the like. I found, for a dollar each, seasonal mini baking pans. So… my work colleagues are getting my pumpkin-choc chip bread for the end of the semester gifts this year. 8 bucks plus the cost of the recipe, not bad! Little girl and I had a lovely lunch out together. She’s getting old enough to be fun in a different way now!

Painting the basement is ensuing, progress is being made so that makes me happy.

Howdy Y’all! Sneakin’ in quick post from mom’s (not our MOOOOOOM) puter.

gt truly a site for decoratin’ inspiration if ever there were one!

Hope the big open house goes well MOOOOOOM!

Ok, gotta get back to actin’ like I like my family.

Later Y’all!

I’m not going to have time to come here tomorrow so…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOONE

יום הולדת

Hai everybody.

I just got home after several hours of baby shower (for a friend, thankfully… not for me), and am now in total estrogen overload. Food was eaten, large belly was admired, presents were opened, small clothes were passed around, and the whole thing was way too Pink for my liking. Urk.

I do believe I’ll go watch The Boy play some video games for a while to get my testosterone fix.
