The President's Cup

The last real golf event of the year starts in a couple of hours. I love some prime-time golf!

I was flipping channels last night before going to bed and saw the opening ceremony. Both captains introduced their teams, then their “Wives and Girlfriends”. It was a bit awkward as Tiger was the last player to be introduced, right before the WAGs. I thought Tiger might have his own row.

That, however, was nothing compared to Greg Norman’s introduction. He started with the WAGs, and said (paraphrasing) “Your men are under a lot of pressure this week, so make sure you treat them extra special”, chuckling while he said it. He’s on stage with all these dignitaries, and basically tells a bunch of women to make sure to give their men blowjobs. They showed the women in the front row and they were not amused. Very awkward.

Obama is in Canberra for a couple of days. I wonder if he might show up tomorrow or Saturday?

I like the International team here. Lots of talent, and half of them are playing at home (Royal Melbourne.)

Tonight’s foresome pairings:

Bubba Watson/Webb Simpson vs. Ernie Els/Ryo Ishikawa Half

Bill Haas/Nick Watney vs. Geoff Ogilvy/Charl Swartzel Int.

Dustin Johnson/Matt Kuchar vs. Aaron Baddely/Jason Day Int.

Phil Mickleson/Jim Furyk vs. Retief Goosen/Robert Allenby USA

Hunter Mahan/David Toms vs. Y.E. Yang/ K.T. Kim Half

Tiger Woods/Steve Stricker vs. Adam Scott/K.J. Choi USA

Tied after day 1 is my guess.

After nine holes, Stricker/Tiger are get boat-raced. Tiger drove it into the outback on hole #7. Choi/Scott are 5 up after nine holes

Looks like Watson/Simpson are going to win, dormie, with 3 holes to play

Mickelson/Furyk and Mahan/Toms are 3 up early in the back nine.

Other two matches are somewhat close
