At first, a small thing of Dannon yogurt was a dollar. Then, a few months ago it was suddenly 89 cents. Now it’s 69 cents! What’s happening in the dairy world that’s causing yogurt to drop its consumer price? I’m starting to get scared, now.
Iraq is finally able to export all of their sheep’s milk? [grin]
My guess is that Dannon’s marketing geniuses assumed that the consumers would not notice that the cartons had suddenly been downsized from eight ounces to six and would continue to pay the same price for 25% less product. I immediately switched to the store brand–still eight ounces and just as yogurty–and I hoped that others would do likewise. Maybe we’re not such imbeciles after all. A drop in sales might account for the drop in price.
At the dwindle in size, I switched to Bryers - Makers of the Oh So Yummy Light Lemon Chiffon.
Quite tasty. And still 8 oz
A substantial portion of my grocery bill goes each week to yogurt purchase, but like Second Guest, I always buy the store brand. In the big tub. Loves me some yogurt, I do.
Yogurt is one of those things that’s alot cheaper if you make it yourself. It only costs about what your milk costs. All you need to make it is milk & some starter & for this you can usually use regular yogurt.
Round about these parts a gallon you make yourself should cost ya about $2.00 for 120oz But you don’t get any flavoring, sugar or preservatives &/or additives.
I agree with the above on sizing, some ice cream containers are no longer two quarts but 1.75 quarts.
As someone with a yogurt addiction, this all good news to me.
Not only are the Dannon cartons getting smaller, my guess is they’re putting more and more jello and starch and such crap in it. The plain was unadulterated until recently. I think I’m going to start making my own. If I wanted jello, I would buy jello.
Finally, a thread that brings some culture to the boards.
