Niki Flynn’s book talks extensively about real shoots with real pain. Even so, many of the actresses used are not from the scene and while they are always warned ahead of time, and even given samples of what a real caning is like, they’re still surprised and dismayed. Lots of cold wet towels afterward.
The rules about BDSM and sex have changed several times over the years. In Betty Page’s heyday, she did nude shoots and bondage shoots but never nude bondage shoots. Even that wasn’t allowed. They seem to have shifted in the 1970s so that anything went and then changed back again so that sex and BDSM weren’t allowed together. I don’t know enough about kink.com’s rules, but you can certainly find both together in a variety of places. Of course, with sources coming from all over the world on the Internet who know what the local laws might be like.
And both together has a variety of meanings itself. It’s hard to literally do both together. And the camera angles and lighting and so forth are going to differ because one is generally distant and wide angle and the other close-up and tight. Almost certainly the scenes would be shot separately.
Yah. I really think it’s best when the models are truly into the scene. I’ve stumbled across some of the BDSM/spanking stuff that comes out of the former Soviet Union and other former Eastern Bloc countries where the level of severity is almost exactly what my fantasy wants … except it’s painfully obvious (pun intended) that the poor girls on the receiving end were probably impoverished and desperate to earn some money, and had no idea what they were getting into. You can tell by the looks on their faces that they’re totally miserable and suffering, and they’re thinking to themselves, “This will pay next month’s rent … this will buy food…” Complete turnoff. The same scenes, with the same level of severity, but performed by true submissives/bottoms, would be much more arousing.
The only time I specifically heard what “the law” said was in an interview in Hustler magazine back in the early '90s with Eve Whatshername from Shadow Lane, an outfit that makes erotic spanking videos. She specifically said that it was illegal to combine sex and spanking, because of the possible rape implications. However, I don’t know if the law to which she referred was a law just in Shadow Lane’s home state, or if it applied nationwide.
Depends on jurisdiction, I suppose. But what little fantasy rape porn I’ve seen hasn’t involved any kind of serious “beating” — a few light slaps, but that’s about it. I think the real issue is the combination of “rape” and “torture”. Either one separately can easily be acted/presented in a way that makes it reasonably clear that the participants are consenting. Combining the two, I guess, blurs that line a bit too much.
Uh, not to put too fine a point on it, but doesn’t making it reasonably clear that participants are consenting kind of defeat the purpose of rape porn in the first place?
It never occurred to me that the acting was deliberately bad.
This is BS. Laws of this sort would be challenged and struck down immediately. There might be an argument that a county/municipality would prosecute if things were a certain way, but 99.9% of the time, it’s down to artistic considerations or what some dumbass porn producer thinks is the law. I’m not aware of any states that describe what sort of porn is allowed; no state even acknowledges the existence of legal porn.
Well, I’m only paraphrasing something I read almost 20 years ago. Being it was in print and pre-Internet I unfortunately can’t provide a cite. I do remember Eve describing how a “typical” spanking scene plays out in one of their videos, and the interviewer asking, “And then they have sex [after the spanking]?” Eve replied, “No, because …” and gave the explanation I paraphrased above. It’s entirely possible that she simply pointed out the possible “rape” implications and that they leave out the sex simply to avoid giving opponents one more thing to hassle them about. But the way she explained it left the impression — on me, anyway — that there was something illegal about combining the two.
Ah, so when you said “do things,” you meant “pretend to do things.” The physical action is the same, but what you’re getting off on is the pretending part, yes?
I’d go with the latter. There’s that whole thing with tentacle porn and censored pornos that suggests that legally, at least, Japan is actually a lot less kinky.
