I’ve done both and the only reason I went back to the hour long conference calls is because my stoopid body flaked out on me.
Did epic curses ensue?
Thank you I knew that the cheddar problem was mine and mine alone, I am so happy I have it figured out. Cheese making is usually pretty simple as long as you enjoy being CDO over every single step.
We’ve bought a new dorm fridge to turn into a bleu cheese cave but are going to have to move a heavy file cabinet so I can put it across the room from our regular one.
I might just need to find some of that, but not quite what I wanted, LOL!
I was up way too early so will be heading to bed soon. I tried my new pig fat soap and it was nice. Not a lot of lather, but it seemed to be more of a moisturizing bar than body soap. My skin feels nice, but I must not smell like bacon because Hubs hasn’t attempted to get cuddly.
First of all, let me say that I love most things pumpkin, including pumpkin spice when it is applied to pumpkin. But not so much with other stuff. And definitely not as air freshener.
Secondly, congrats Shoe!
Thirdly, I have a short, sweet tale to tell. A week ago last Friday, I got the ax. I didn’t have another job lined up yet, but was very glad to see the last of my former boss. And I made sure she was glad to see the last of me. Such a cute little sociopath. I’m so glad that short, intense chapter of my life is over. So jobless? Nope! On Sunday night, I applied for a job. I interviewed on Wednesday. On Thursday they called to request I come in a fill out the paperwork. If I pass the pee in a little cup test, I’ll be employed again starting next week.
This time it is customer service for a specialized transportation company, possibly working my way into the dispatcher role. I haven’t done dispatch for years and years, but I’m very good at phone and radio communications. And I have fairly recent customer service experience. The hours are odd and intense. 3-1/2 days on, 3-1/2 days off each week. 11 hour days, including a 30 minute lunch. Pay is low, but benefits are included. and with that schedule I might get a part time job for the holidays just to get some bills paid off. Yay me!
JtC, I want squeaky cheese curds. It’s been a while since I got to eat the fresh, warm ones. And Swampy, I’m pretending I’m enjoying your cobbler, too. Yum.
I am TeamDarkQuietCool+no cats allowed on my side of the bedroom door.
Your job and shoe’s drivers license have perked up my week!
Sounds like you’ll be good at it and benefits are nothing to sneeze at nowadays-they are few and far between.
Yes. Hooray for jobs and more importantly, for being done with psycho bitch.
Yer makin’ doggios’s eye twitch again. Mine too this time. Now that I know what to do.
Modern cars tell you when they need to be fiddled with. Very clever. This was my car, so the beneficiary of getting rid of the annoying reminders was me.
Her Ladyship is afraid to drive mine and would sooner I user her toothbrush or sex toys than drive her car. Her car maintenance is her responsibility. At her insistence.
It’s OCD with the letters in the right order, damnit! Geeze, don’t none of you guyz know how to CDO right?
Yes, this has been a very good news day, congrats to both!
My first set of black out curtains didn’t really black out ALL of the light, so I bought another set and sewed them together. Now I sleep in color-film developing darkness
Hey! Hey! Let’s not go counting chickens before they hatch.
I have trust issues. And an innate sense of pessimism.
What I don’t have, though, is a driver’s license. Not yet.
What I do have, carefully nestled in my wallet, is a piece of paper containing a solemn promise (pinky swear!) that the great state of Mitten will absolutely totally send me one, as soon as they triple-check a couple of things, maybe take a coffee break, check out that ice fishing spot in the U.P. that Bob mentioned, and uh, oh yeah, they’ll absolutely get right on it after that.
Shoe once you do have that official drivers license with the hawt picture on it, will you need to start practicing your “Uff da” or don’t they use that in your part of da LP, eh?
Look, can I make a Monday post that is not upbeat? See, I had a good weekend. My high school class had a 50th anniversary celebration. Friday there was the homecoming game and I didn’t go to that because it was cold and almost raining, But Saturday morning I went on a tour of the high school campus. New building, some stuff changed around. We had a good time, lots of “Remember when?” conversations. I met a gal I knew in school, and remembered especially for something she said at the 10th reunion. Until introduced again I didn’t know her but then I could recall things. She was a friend not close, but I did like her. She has had a lot of health issues I gather. That evening I looked forward to seeing her at the party gathering, and I thought she said she was going. Must have been wrong because she wasn’t there. I spoke with another person we’d chatted with during the morning tour, and when I wondered why “R” wasn’t there, I got a whispered response “It’s the money” There had been a cost for the party of course. I hadn’t thought it was outrageous, $50, because the food was lavish, the venue had a rent of course, and there would even be a fee for accident insurance. To my dismay it seemed that “R” couldn’t really afford it. Sheesh, it’s not like we were close but I knew her well enough and liked her, and I would have paid her way if I’d known.
It was a wonderful time we all had, although I wondered why all the old people were there, But I’m feeling somewhat down and wondering, if we ever have another gathering. if there’s a discreet way to help those who might have monetary issues.
id try it once… i didn’t see any horrible reviews tho
they couldn’t allow any headphones of any type because they used forklifts when the trucks came… it didn’t impress many people …we had inoffensive music on a70s stereo bought at a yardsale playing …
@baker hey you care about people you haven’t seen too long andeven thinking aboutv helping to pay for them is a damn sight more than I would do for some people I know I talked to 20 minutes ago
I’ve never heard “uff dah” so that must be a northern thang.
Nobody 'round here says “eh?” either, though I do hear “Ope” and “Bet,” and I’ve learned that if you say “I’m sorry” you will immediately hear, “No, you’re alright!” even if you just ran over their dog.
This is why you’re a good person.
Not a downer post.
I’m sorry she missed out. But surely there’s a way to communicate to the alum org that you’d like to help in some way.
Nappage didn’t happen, and I still can’t sleep. You people are not boring enough. Imma go take a walk or something.
Howdy all. Posting from the great state of Jawja. I am in Athens staying with my friend for the weekend. Actually leaving this morning if I can get some more sleep. Damned insomnia. I feel rested but I don’t like driving in the dark especially in Jawja as the deers love to run into cars here.
Pumpkin spice or pie equals yuck. And like shoe said it is all about the spice. Pumpkin itself doesn’t have much flavor. It is good for dogs digestion though. Pumpkins are good for decorating.
Morning, mumpers! It’s a cool 15c/59f with a predicted high of 20c/68f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Serge King once said “Revelations are found in clouds.” Yeah. How about the revelation that clouds fucking suck?” It’s not that bad outside today, I can see sunshine and blue sky, and it’s pleasantly warm - I’ve just been to haul the biiiiiig rubbish bin out for today’s collection.
Baker that’s not a downer, just the sign of someone who would have liked to do a good thing.
shoe conga-rats on the almost-license!
Oopsie and Boo I am definitely dark/cold/quiet room but no socks, only a summer weight duvet, windows open and quite often a fan running as well. 'im indoors isn’t working at the moment so keeping stranger hours than usual, I’m in bed by 10pm and he’s in bed by about 3am!
Mooooom hope FCD and MIL get a quiet and uneventful trip today. I would not feel at all guilty about staying behind, I do love a bit of alone time. Since lockdown, 'im indoors has been at home all the time and much as I loathe having to go to campus these days, I kind of value the time with other people. And when he goes to the gym, I get a couple of hours in the house alone which is great, even if I’m still having to work.
OK, I have read much and retained little, and I have a couple of tricky things in my inbox that I can’t avoid any longer. Must go and make a fresh cup of tea (no jam/toast, pumpkin, or biscuit flavours) and then sort that muck out.
They’re on their way. As has been usual these days, I woke around 4:30. FCD was in the shower by the time the alarm went off at 5. They were out the door by 5:50 and I’d go back to bed except I stripped our sheets off for laundering. I have decided, tho, that tonight will be an early night and I’m sleeping with Mel. It’s not good to get so little sleep all the time.
And FCD just called - MIL left her phone here, but rather than come back, she said to just mail it to her. So I’ll overnight it to Aunt B’s when Tobias and I are running errands today. I need to find a small box. Always something.
Yep, today’s big plans include erranding with the lad. I need to go to the credit union and Food Lion, and now also the Post Office. He’ll be here in about 3 hours - that gives me time to shower and dress and find a box. And so beginneth my day.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 82 and N.O.S. I can hardly contain myself cause today is laundry day! Also, we shall go through the closet today to get it all neat and tidy. It’s not awful, but gettin’ that way. No doubt there is stuff in there we should get rid of/donate. We shall devote the afternoon to sloth, nappage, day drinkin’ and other fun retired inactivities. Sup shall be leftovers from last night’s sup. Beginnin’ tomorrow, it will be dealin’ with preparations for the big upcomin’ Ordination service on Sattidy.
MOOOOOOM glad they got up and out with relative ease except for the phone. Hope you find a suitable box.
Butters safe travels back home from Dawg City. Did y’all go to the game? Athens on a home game weekend is, ummm… innerestin’ to say the least. Been a long time since I was in Athens, as the desire to do so is not there anymore.
CupCakes not a downer post at all. It’s nice of you to want to help out like that. Fifty bucks can be a lot to some folk and it’s sad that can get in the way of someone doin’ a thing he/she might have wanted to do.
Vrooom conga rats on bein’ away from former boss and on the new gig. Yay for benefits as well!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Mornin’ all. An hour pre-dawn as the balconatin’ and caffinatin’ gets underway. We never did have a minute of unobstructed sun yesterday. Boofae would feel right at home. Not gloomy all day, but the best it ever got was light gray with just a few short sprinkles. Today is looking better and I’m dressed to beach once sunrise get done and I see when the sun will climb above the distant horizon clouds. Presently 77/25 on the way to 88/31 with my few stars overhead and the first bits of light in the sky to the east…
Now reading all the later replies from overnight I see I’m late to the chorus, but anyhow …
Not really. You had a fun weekend and that’s good.
It’s a shame “R” wasn’t there and that you didn’t know. It sounds like you can get her contact info through the people you did talk to. Finding people online isn’t impossible either. Maybe there’s a way to both gain a friend and help a person in need. It just takes reaching out.
That is by far the oddest part of advancing age. I see friends, cow-orkers, neighbors, etc., I’ve known for years and they all seem to be wearing old-fart costumes and makeup. 'Cept me of course. What the heck is up with that? How did that look become fashionable?
FCM: That day started off with early. A trick I learned long ago is don’t strip the bed until you’re sure you’re up for the day. There is few feelings as forlorn as walking into the bedroom is that “I really wanna mid-morning nap” fog and seeing a stripped bed. Shame about the phone. At least they left today, not yesterday when the USPS was closed for the holiday. IIRC USPS sells padded mailers about the right size for a phone for next to nothing. I expect your the sort of organized person with a whole shelf of carefully sorted and nested cardboard boxes & packing materials. But if not …
Yaay Swampy for attackin’ the closet. Maybe. Probably. Who’s gettin’ Ordinated? Does that affect your need to be substitute preacher so’s you can git back to Vergerin’ as is your wont and calling?
Back to me:
No real plans for the day here after beaching. We shall see.
