Not really; I get that that crap is super tiresome. Sorry you got tapped by a jerk.
Why so slow?
I realize upstate is not like here in Miami Dade, but around here on I-95 going a mere 85 mph you’d sooner get a ticket for obstructing traffic than for speeding.
He’ll be coming back on Thursday. Then he and I will pick her up the last weekend of this month. With 2 of us driving, it’ll be a piece of cake.
And I wasn’t laughing at you regarding dog food. I was snarking at dog food makers. Plus no kidding about Higgs snarfing up everything. She’ll even nosh on cat turds if I fail to latch the basement door.
I had to have my ring upsized because of my expanded knuckle. I had it made bigger yet assuming the knuckle wasn’t done growing. That was probably a bad call…
But I’m not sentimental about this ring, as it’s my 3rd. I lost the first one when pregnant. I still have the second, but it’s way too small and not easily upsized. My current band was bought online for $125. It’s a symbol without history. FCD is also on his 3rd ring, except it was my paternal grandfather’s - my mom gave it to him after my dad died.
Yeah, still up. I didn’t take mel. But the eyes are getting droopy, so nighty-night!
Oh, when I lived in the Keys I always used the Turnpike. I abhor I95 but think 75 is way worse traffic wise. I 10 is a mere 60 miles and two lane but way less traffic. I lived in the Keys for 31 years and never drove faster than 50mph and much less at times. It takes a minute to learn to do 80-85. This trip was a sneak trip as I didn’t have time to visit everyone. Just my old brother who is looking everyday of his 80 years. I stopped by and said see ya later. I must plan another trip before it gets too cold as I’ve been telling my family I’d visit in the fall. So I get to do it again in a month or so and it will be a tour of the entire state as I have a sister in Rome in nw Ga and a sister in Aiken SC close to Augusta. If they find out I was up there and didn’t visit I’ll be in the dog house.
My friend has 5 acres and a well built shop that she wants to make me an apartment out of. I can really be a snaowbird. It is big enough for a good size bedroom, already has a toilet and utility sink and the ceiling is finished with lighting. She is serious and said she would make sure it’s mine if she passes. Her husband died suddenly a little over a year ago and owned a construction company. They lived in a trailer and built their 5 bedroom house on credit cards 2000 dollars at a time. Place is gorgeous. Lots of handmade furniture. Her husband has three sons so I don’t know know how they would feel about it but she said she owns it and wants us to do some traveling. We don’t have passports so our next trip is going to be an Amtrak trip across the country and back.
Her health is not good but not as dire as I thought. We were friends since she was 13 and I was 16. We laughed and spent hours trying to put together and make work a thermometer that shows both indoor and outdoor temps as well as time. We couldn’t make it work but laughed trying. It would show the time and indoor temp but never showed the outside. When I called to let her know I asked her about it and the damn thing is now working. Crazy. It was a good visit.
When I set up my new phone, I opted for drawing a pattern to unlock the screen but somehow screwed it up. Tonight it demanded the pattern, which I couldn’t replicate. I had to do a factory reset and then import all my Google stuff, but Google wanted me to go into Google settings on my phone, which wouldn’t let me unlock the screen even after the reset. I just kept pushing buttons and swearing until some magic combo worked. Whew.
I got the RSV shot. I feel so sorry for pharmacy workers these days. They’re all so short-staffed. I’d planned to walk there, as it’s only about a mile, and take the bus back. However, I hadn’t even gotten out of the complex when I realized I just couldn’t do it. Plus my knee buckled when I stepped of a curb. I took the bus.
It’s raining heavily here, which makes me happy, although sorry for those stuck outdoors.
Butters! Welcome back!
GodBod, glad you’re loving college. Freedom is a sweet, sweet tonic, isn’t it?
Boo, sorry for the loss of caffeine and carbonation. I hope you still get to enjoy chocolate.
You are a very patient man. I tend to be nice and smiley, but in this case, I might have given him the I-Taught-Freshmen Glare and said, “Jesus is very disappointed in you” before stalking off.
Oopsie, I’m impressed. Building anything recognizable out of all those Legos would be beyond my capabilities.
Up from naptime, having a Manhattan and Redneck stirfry.
Spot does the “abandoned 6 week old kitten mew”. Which considering he’s 2 and half, and 6 ounces away from being a contestant on Fat Bear Week, is hysterical. He seems rather content to stay inside, though.
Roommie does this. It drives me crazy(and cold).
Congrats on the Dopaversary, and the small victories! and as one of the younger old farts, glad you’re still here.
Glad you made it, Butters
Cookie, I get that a lot at work.
That’s why I laugh at some of those “feed your dog like a wolf” dog foods. My “wolves” graze litterboxes, and won’t go out if there’s dew on the grass.
Glad FCD and MiL made it.
I have a regrettable collection of injuries, diseases and afflictions that bedevil me but this damn hiatal hernia, boring and mundane as it is, turns out to be annoying and limiting beyond its title. If it’s good or fun, you shouldn’t indulge if you’ve got a hiatal hernia-it’s practically maniacal. Caffeine, carbonation, onions, garlic, tomato anything, chocolate, evening snacks……and on and on. I sustain my soul by caffeine and carbonation in moderation, avoid what I can of stuff less important to me. It’s almost disgusting how mature I am about it. I don’t have many vices but caffeine and bubbles were central indulgences. I think I learned from pilot to not give up chocolate completely but to savor really good, deep dark chocolate in sensible quantities, not to squander portions on cheap or pedestrian chocolate or milk chocolate.
At least trashy novels aren’t circumscribed nor being an adoring body servant to a Siamese cat that cost approximately $500 a pound (and never lets me forget it).
I suspect that glare is a great deal like my “don’t make me use my night nurse voice on you”.
The box cover looks really pretty! I saw a FB ad for LEGO stuff that included a quick shot of exactly this kit.
I bet the final result will be stunning!
They make plug-in pet beds that are gently warm, specially to help with arthritis.
Gods, I remember that feeling. (I was overly sheltered growing up, though nothing like what you’ve been through.) You’ll remember what it’s like, suddenly expanding every horizon - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual - for the rest of your life.
IKR what a concept.
(… and I was wondering the other day what happened to you! Glad you poked back in.)
I was thinking the same thing.
I was scanning too quickly and momentarily read this as “Higgs has inhaled my butt” and uh
.. yeah.
The quick’n’cheap old-timey fix was a dab of candle wax on the inside. Temporary, but simple.
No. Just no.
Lotta that goin’ around LOL
You better!
Sounds like Dallas, and Houston.
You misspelled “crunchy-coated tootsie rolls.”
My sweet manager gifted me some of her leftover spaghetti as I was getting ready to leave, so dinner is already sorted.
Yay!
One of my coworkers (oh, the Oven Master who answered the phone “Pizza Hut!” that one night) is heavily involved in producing his own music. Tonight (with permission) he was filming a rap video in our parking lot and, briefly, our lobby. It was really cool to see - and his beats sound good.
My manager went outside to peek, and came back in laughing at how the parking lot reeeeeked of weed. Someone was like, “They’re not just vaping?” and she was like, “Nope, straight up weed.” (She didn’t give a fuck.)
She was even telling him, “Hey, can we be in it? You don’t need any rap girls in the background?” (Mind you, she’s older than me. And yes, it was an oblique reference to Sir Mix-A-Lot.)
Conveniently, we were quiet enough earlier that we all decorated the lobby, as is done each year, so it was extra festive!
This is the first time in my life that I ever thought that Colorado should be nuked from orbit.
That is wonderful, just the sort of thing I would hang on my bedroom wall if possible. I hope you have a great time putting it together.
Shocking isn’t it! Our first experience was at a Viet Nam Vets event around 15 years ago.
I agree about contacting the Alumni committee and suggesting a fund to help folks out if needed.
EEEK! I read further and saw that you were able to get up and move a bit, but yes, the doctor needs to know about this!
It is so hard to sleep when the house is so quiet. Can you maybe some music on to distract your subconscious from listening for the missing claw taps on the floor?
Woot!!!
Can’t you drag your laundry over to one of your kids’ places like they did to you when they were young. You could wash your clothes, eat their food and watch their TV!
I cough at those sort of people. Loudly and as long as I can, then I excuse myself to go off for tissues and face washing.
This really is my only good habit. Ice-water-with-lemon is my drink of choice unless it is good coffee or booze. Back when I was a teen, I loved me some RC Cola. When I got my first sit down job I started gaining weight so moved to unsweet ice tea. Drinking half a gallon of ice tea a day started bothering my sleep, so I moved to ice water and experimented with putting different fruits or veggies in the water. A slice of cucumber is nice as is a slice of green apple, but lemon is available almost everywhere, so that’s been my default drink for over 20 years.
Does this mean we can’t be friends anymore, LOL!!!
(I also call tomatoes “fruit”)
Welcome back and hurray! We are glad you stuck around too!
Speaking as the wife of someone who was in the biz, tank dent removals are a pretty easy fix, they have a whole bunch of hammers specially designed for just this sort of thing. I would suggest looking for an indi Harley guy, some of those guys can do amazing work.
You might want to have the tank repaired in Texas, they have fewer environmental controls on that sort of than than Washington. Chrome work done in TX is much better than many other states for just that reason.
Dudes! Go you!!!
Well, that bites. I’m so happy you will have insurance soon, but convincing doctors that you have lived in your body for your entire life and know how it works can be hard.
Hurray and bummer.
This is because of lawsuits. They can’t send you one letter saying both things and all of the other legalize, they have to waste time and resources sending everyone the same thing so nobody feels left out.
As a tree hugger AND a tax payer I have a whole lot of words to say about the waste, but this is not the place.
I am SO sorry to hear about this, we had a friend who practically lived on milk because almost everything else came back. I hope you can find some relief.
I was totally up for that when I was a floozy. I think I wouldn’t mind having a butt that small again.
I work my allergies to the full extent when that sort of thing happens. If your face is covered with tissues, nobody can really tell the difference between coughing and laughing.
GG still does too. His hooman slaves always talk back and ask what’s wrong before giving him pets and scritchings. He uses different words when he wants VBC to wash his ears.
It must be, why else would Clavamox for cats be bubblegum flavored? Cause why else would they think cats like bubblegum?
VBC just brought me a piggy, so my hands need to be doing other things for a while. Part 2 might or might not happen.
I listed like a sailboat and made Quasimodo look like a tightrope walker, but I could get around on it for short distances. Is the swelling causing the issues, or are the issues causing the swelling? Dunno. I’ll see what the PT says tomorrow if it hasn’t resolved by then.
The dramatically improved vision makes up for all that, though.
Tomorrow’s headline: Pumpkin-Spice-Scented Fallout Drifts Over Arizona.
Awake again in the the middle of the night.I am so tired of my weird sleep habits…
Will one of you please explain slow and with very simple words how to do the multi quote thing please?
Taters so sorry to read of Polar’s passing. The main problem with pets is their short lifespans.
Swampy we did not go to the game but could hear it and did watch it on TV. It got down to 45F and I wasn’t at all chilled. The weather was perfect in Jawja. Still hot here.
Nellie Happy about eye being better but sad your knee is still paining you. And Boo my friend has a hernia that needs repair and she is having trouble eating and keeping food down. I hope you get it fixed or it fixes itself soonest.
FCM enjoy the quiet. Everyone needs some alone time I believe.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 60 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 71 with rain beginnin’ late(ish) mornin’ and continuin’ through the rest of the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to procure provisions. We shall do that and get fried chikin N.O.L.s for today’s main feed. The rest of the day shall be spent in sloth. Nappage, day drinkin’ and all the other essential nonactivities shall take up the day. Back porch sittin’ whilst listenin’ to and watchin’ the rain will definitely be accomplished.
I am not good with the comprehension this mornin’, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around, as needed.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I shall purtify and don attire suitable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Woe is me!
Ziva not only never tried to venture forth as Taz did, she rarely ventures out from under our bed. Tho with only me in the house, she’s been out and about more. I truly don’t understand her - no one has ever mistreated her here, but it seems I’m the only one she trusts to any degree. Weird feline (or is that redundant?)
He’s some sort of rap guy, right? And yes, I’m tragically unhip, especially WRT rap. It absolutely does nothing for me. Give me folk music any day!
According to my math, I’ve been on the Dope longer than you’ve been alive!! And probably in the MMP longer than you’ve been alive! Kids these days…
I hope this works with whatever you use to Dope (it works on my PC and tablet):
1 - Highlight the text you want to quote.
2 - A little box that says “Quote” should appear right next to it.
3 - Click it - the quote will appear in your reply window.
4 - Lather, rinse, repeat.
I didn’t sleep with Mel, but I did mostly sleep for almost 8 hours. I woke a couple of times for no apparent reason and forced myself to lie there quietly and not think, and I drifted off again. Altho one of the times I woke, it was weird - I dreamed that I came across a pile of spilled cat kibbles on the floor and it woke me with a sudden jolt. Of all the disturbing things!!!
Regardless, I feel rested, and I even started out by getting all dressed before coming out to tend the critters - usually I do that in my robe, then return to don proper attire. Then again, usually FCD is still sleeping and I don’t want to disturb him by opening and closing doors and drawers, because I’m nice, dammit.
Not sure what the plan of the day is. It’s supposed to be sunny and mild, so I might take Tobias to the playground for a while - depends on how quickly it warms up, since it’s in the 40s just now. Or we might just hang in the basement.
It’s looking like the vendor fair/fundraiser is going to be rescheduled, since the current forecast is 80% chance of rain after 8AM. Daughter doesn’t know what the resked date is - the parents group is running the show. So maybe next weekend? If it’s the weekend after, someone else will have to sell my stuff. We shall see…
Daughter has asked if I’ll help her take the kids trick-or-treating, and I probably will. Roxy wants to be a princess - she’s got several costumes that will work, so that’s easy. Tobias will be a turtle - dressed in green and wearing a backpack that looks like a turtle shell - not that he has a clue what it’s all about. I need to ask where they’re going - he neighborhood is fairly widely spread out for T-or-T, but what do I know??
It’s 51F, dark and damp outside. We’ll have rain in the morning, changing to clouds broken up with rain showers and a high temp of around 58F for the afternoon and evening.
I picked up Polar’s cremains, paw print, and special blanket yesterday. They had even washed the blanket. The vet tech asked if she could hug me and spent a long time talking about Polar’s personality and how special he was. He was a favorite there. She and some other staff finished by saying they hoped we could return, and I told them that it would probably be a bit, but we would likely be back. But I dunno; while I miss Polar (and all my previous dogs), I don’t really miss the responsibility.
Butters, I’m glad you had a nice trip. I’m a bit of a speed demon and have to force myself to slow down. 85 MPH is right up my lane! Oh, who am I kidding?! I’m a frustrated Grand Prix driver and love to mash it. However, traffic 'round these parts makes that pretty much an impossibility.
nellie, I hope you get some answers at PT today.
BBBoo, I’m sorry to hear about the hiatal hernia. Your symptoms have given me some food for thought. It seems everything is giving me indigestion. Part of me is saying, “It’s because you’re fat and need exercise!” and part of me is saying, “it sucks to get old,” which combines into “I don’t need to see the doc; I’ll just have to live with it because they’ll just tell me to take Prilosec.” Yes, it’s all silly, but that’s how my mind works.
I still haven’t turned on the heat; it’s just not been cold enough. When overnight temps consistently drop into the 30s and 40s and the daytime temps stay in the 40s or low fifties, I might turn on the heat. Maybe…
Polar (and Brandi) used to try and escape any time we left a door open. Getting groceries in the house, was quite a treat. Or, if someone came to the door, I had to hold onto both dogs while I opened the door. However, as they both aged, the urge to run far afield faded, and they were content to just lie on the kitchen floor and wait for their special “you left us ALL ALONE FOR HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS” treat. They had to nose each grocery bag and find the bag with the treats/doggy ice cream. My sweet Cap’n was the same way.
My direct boss is pretty much out of the loop for this week and next, so I’ll be dealing with his stuff too. He’ll be checking in occasionally via email but has something to deal with, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t get to check in as often as he thinks he will. In the meantime, the madness at work continues and I continue to roll with it.
So, I suppose I should get the last of the dishes in the dishwasher and run it. Be good!
Lessee, I got a fire going in the basement, I tossed the sheets in the washer, did a quick rollsuck, and now Tobias and I are watching Bluey. Good times.
I was texting with FCD - he’s ready to come home already. His aunt is a TALKER and his head is ready to asplode. Poor baby… but he’ll hang in there till tomorrow.
