Besides johnnyLA we also have our experienced and learned shoe who learned Polish in the cradle. How she’d get a voiced pronunciation to you is waaaay above my tech grade level.
I don’t actually speak Polish. I just learned the pronunciation because I like the proverb. (I can also say ‘golumpki’. I like those too. )
Thanks for the promotion!
I think that’s something to celebrate in and of itself. The hardest thing about exercise (for me) is opening the door and taking that first step, every time. Definitely don’t beat yourself up about your mileage. All I promise to myself is 10 minutes a day. I put on my shoes, I walk 10 minutes and I’m still feeling yuck or just not into it, I turn around and go home. No harm, no foul.
I’ve gotta agree with cookie that walking is highly, highly under-rated both for mental and physical health. I started walking when my dad died at the end of 2021 and I didn’t stop and I’m so very glad I didn’t. It’s gotten me through a lot. Not the end all, be all, mind you, but really damn powerful.
Up early to be first to the License office. Cold out though. It was 37F when I arose. I still haven’t turned the heat on here. In fact, I leave the windows open overnight, because it’s a south facing apartment, I can get away with it. I had to turn the air on this afternoon to cool things off in here today. I can’t do that for much longer though as it will be too cold outside to run it.
There was hardly any waiting for help at the License office and the guy who helped me was pleasant and chatty. I still don’t need glasses for driving by their reading. I wear them though. They correct my astigmatism so I can read signs a bit faster at night than without the glasses.
So, renewal achieved, I called the new job place to say I can come in to finish paperwork now. They said “tomorrow please, pavement is being laid down in the parking lot today.” Naturally, tomorrow it will be raining. Still and all. Job! So happy to be away from angry boss.
Taters, I’m so sorry about Polar. Isn’t it lovely that the vet staff appreciated him as well? But yes, I understand the waiting to determine if you want another pet. Hugs.
BBBoo, I had a hiatal hernia as a baby, my mother bitched about my spitting everything up for years after all was well. It has come back to haunt me. If you like spicy, acidic, and the rich food that tends to aggravate it, switch your diet so you eat them for lunch instead of for supper. Also, I found that making my breakfast or lunch be the largest meal of the day instead of dinner can help. I eat dinner early now so that I am going to bed on an empty stomach. It helps.
Thinking about this is making me question how I will change my eating schedule for my new job. 11 hour shifts will be a challenge, especially as I can’t take time to assemble my lunch. I need to bring it in, ready to eat. At my previous gig, I just ate yogurt and fruit at my desk but I only worked 6-7 hours. I think this schedule calls for more.
Congratulation. If that’s the Costco I expect it is (SLP) it’s very tricky for those who don’t know the roads. And yep, to the savings on the butter, bacon, eggs and pretty much everything. Costco rocks.
Pilot, yes that dented tank should be an easy fix for someone who knows, but the hole will be more challenging. Make sure you talk to them about the metal and solder they will use. My thought is to look around for someone with racing mechanic experience. They will have worked on a few of them and heard plenty of stories about others’ experiences with the fix.
LSLguy is Pilot.
The hole is where the fuel pump goes. Probably shouldn’t seal that up. Well, we’ll seal it up with the fuel pump.
I’ll never keep you straight. You’re Flyboy, right? And, yeah, I thought there was an unplanned hole in the tank.
Glad that FCD and MIL made it to Indiana Moooooom.
metal mouse, my next door neighbor made a similar comment about nuking Gaza Saturday morning. I’m guessing that he assumes that any white person speaking English as a first language shares his politics, religion and prejudices. At least his dogs are nice.
I swung through Mapco on the way home from irk this afternoon to buy a powerball ticket. I’ll check the drawing when I get up to see if I’ll be heading to irk.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I napped I dreamed I was in the old Durham JC Penny, except it had a cafeteria, Olympic swimming pool, and a giant theater with Chuck-E-Cheeses style animatronics, except it was from A Charlie Brown Christmas, and they tended to randomly fall over. Then I went to the State Fairgrounds to adopt a dog, but all they had was livestock and vermin. We couldn’t find my car, and it was about to rain, so we back inside. Then the building sank to the bottom of the ocean, and I woke up just before the building imploded, and turned us into billionaire meat cubes. So I’m having a martini(with olives and a twist!) and am watching hockey. Senators are up 1-0.
Well, I have about 10 within 50 miles of me, so I got it.
Much better to guess high than low. As only a career person will know. Or else I really stepped in it, Commander.

There was hardly any waiting for help at the License office and the guy who helped me was pleasant and chatty.
…
So, renewal achieved,
Yaay! Huge Yaay! I’ve found most of those folks are pretty good as long as the line’s not around the building. Being (almost) first in the door is huge. And being nice to them starts their day off right too.

I’m guessing that he assumes that any white person speaking English as a first language shares his politics, religion and prejudices.
And he and his ilk will continue to assume that until people tell them contrary. It’s a shame we are painted into the corner of having to forcefully push back at this stuff, but IMO we are.
Well dinner was fun. Tonight we had a food truck downstairs selling Louisiana style seafood & similar goodies. About the time they started it began to rain very lightly, but we went down anyhow. Her Ladyship enjoyed a lobster roll and potato wedges while I had Cajun / garlic shrimp served on a bed of buttered garlic-laden linguine they called “noodles”. Run by two very sweet large black ladies with obvious Louisiana accents to go with the Louisiana motif of their truck’s artwork.
Fine dining indeed. The low Sun popped out from behind a cloud long enough to trigger a fine rainbow.
Now balconatin’ a half hour-ish after sunset in the cozy warmth. Now that I have good wifi out here I can listen to tunes over the youtube without skipping. On my cool retiree gift earbuds. Yaay me. In a few minutes I can test my blod to see how much I ODed on garlic noodles and whether dessert will be chocolate, fruit, nuts, or maybe all 3 . Nearly Scotch time too. Actually this last doesn’t need to wait; hold the phone, I’ll be right back. Ahhhh!
I was so proud of the fact I remembered a dream this morning. And I wanted to share. Now doggio came up with this gem:

I dreamed I was in the old Durham JC Penny, except it had a cafeteria, Olympic swimming pool, and a giant theater with Chuck-E-Cheeses style animatronics, except it was from A Charlie Brown Christmas, and they tended to randomly fall over.
Sadly, mine’s pretty lame:
I and 3 or 4 guy friends who were each sorta composites of various people I’ve known over the years were having a sort of picnic out in the middle of a close-cropped field. Kinda like a fairgrounds parking lot; hard dirt, pounded flat grass, & no shade. Yakking about nothing really. Despite the sunshine it began to rain, we could not see shelter in any direction and I woke up.
That’s about as exciting as it gets inside my head. Sorry.
One thing I have noticed. In the dreams where I can identify one of the characters as me, he’s always about age 30. As are most of the other characters. Hmmm.

That’s about as exciting as it gets inside my head. Sorry.
I seem to telepathically absorb all the dream wierd from everybody within a lightyear. Maybe it’s the local beer.
Evening all. Swimming and sauna were accomplished, along with a small amount of shopping, and that was about it for the afternoon. Just finished my ham-n-cheesers for the nightly meal and am watching Amtrak arrive at Fort Madison, Iowa on Virtual Railfan. Got a bit of rain falling, but nothing major, just enough to keep the grass wet, and the temperature is 65F, so all-in-all not a bad evening.
27 messages in 10 hours…I really need to start posting in the afternoon again.
OK, train has left the station, so I can concentrate on this only.
Flyboy, been tempted to get that shirt before, may have to visit Amazon.
Cookie, glad the CostCo trip was worth the travel and renewal. And like you and Oopsie, I try to get to the gym on a regular basis, once I had it as part of the ‘normal’ routine it was much easier to get motivated. And Oopsie, I have a HBCU abotu 12 miles from me so I got the reference OK.
Talky, we all have a little curmudgeon in us and we have to let it out to play now and then so we don’t have a big blowup.
vroom, good news on the license renewal being relatively painless. Hope the eating schedule works itself out. And you are right, Flyboy is due to his Avatar and Pilot is because until recently he was one for a major airline (don’t know if he wants me to mention its name or not, but it’s a major carrier down his way).
doggio, that was an…interesting…dream. No wonder you drink…
Pilot, good news on the glasses, my next visit will be in the spring, hopefully they won’t have changed to much. And understand your acronym mis-understanding, I do some of my banking at RFCU, so like your wife the CU reminds me of Credit Union right off.
OK, after 7pm and I need to finish up my You Tube vids for the evening and do some puzzle-solving (one of my store purchases was the NY Times). Have a good evening all.
I’m sick so will keep this short. Had PT today. They think most of my issues are due to swelling, which is due to inflammation. They’re going to contact the surgeon’s PA.
I’ve read all and retained most but am too tired to say much beyond this: I love you all. More tomorrow.
Oh, @nelliebly . Rest and recuperate soon.
(((Hugs)))
Best of luck Nellie!! Sleep well; you need it lots and deserve it more.
FCD plans to hit the road by 4:30 in the am - right about the time I wake up. I just hope he’s asleep now. I plan to be shortly.
Nighty night!
I hope you get some much deserved rest and feel better. Let us know what the PA says!

Tonight we had a food truck downstairs selling Louisiana style seafood & similar goodies.
This and pizza delivery is honestly the only reason I’d live in a city. I want food trucks on every corner, darnit!

And like you and Oopsie, I try to get to the gym on a regular basis, once I had it as part of the ‘normal’ routine it was much easier to get motivated.
I agree, it’s much easier to keep going to TC classes and doing homework now that it is just part of my routine. I need to get hubs to the park for a walk on a regular basis, he really isn’t moving his body around enough.

I will be keeping you in my thoughts, and I know I’m not the only one of your imaginary friends who is!

Spot knows The Red Dot comes out of a tube, so he will pull out lip balm tubes when he wants to play his video game.
That is so cute! We still break GG with the Red Dot, but at least it entertains him.
Here’s his latest pic for those who don’t check the Pet Pic thread:
I DO not understand why that pic is fighting me over this.
Sleep, sleep, sleep, that is one of the best cures.
