The Pumpkin Spice MMP

Howdy Y’all! We went to Sunny’s for some ribs (good babyback ribs!) instead of the [del]hog trough[/del] GC. I’m glad we did. Sonny’s was kinda crowded but I bet the GC was even more so. Plus it’s closer to da cave. The rest of the day holds sloth. OYKW has gone to achieve nappage. I may do the same. Or not.

{{{rosie}}} sleep is a good thing. Hope you feel better soonest.

316 - your washing machine is 20 years old? probably not worth even having a repair guy look at it as the chances of finding parts is next to nothing unless it’s something really simple like the drive belt finally broke.

And count me in the legions of sane people who don’t appreciate dumping nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and allspice into everything at this time of year.

Not a pumpkin fan myself. Want Count Chocula, BooBerry, and Frankenberry.

Got errands to run once DH is up and functioning (gotta get the cat to help me out with that (evil grin)).

We decided to try Steak in a Sack for lunch. **FCD **like his reuben, but my corned beef on wheat was more fat than meat. ugh. Plus they don’t include anything besides the sammich, so my crappy, fatty corned beef on toasted bread cost $7.50! It wasn’t even special bread - just something out of a bag.

I won’t be doing lunch there ever again.

I thought about starting the new MMP but wasn’t inspired enough & it woulda been a downer one anyway - Labor Day: what a $#!%%& holiday!
[ul]
[li]It means the community pool is closed for the year.[/li][li]It means back to school (starts tomorrow round these parts, though some went back last week).[/li][li]It means the mornings come later & the nights begin sooner, which really means the end of weekday outdoor funtivities. [/li][li]It means fall is a comin’. I hate fall. Shorter days, cooler temps, no more shorts, real footwear. 30° temperature swings between morning & afternoon so you’re guaranteed to be dressed wrong at least once per day. [/li][li]It also means less ballooning as festival season is wrapping up.[/li][/ul]

I’m not a (union) Laborer so don’t really celebrate the day. I’m not much of one to go & watch a parade (If I’m at one, I’m usually in or working it in some way, shape, or form). I’ve had to take the day off, w/o pay, for the past six years. (The joys of being a consultant).

OTOH, Labor Day means it’s Sept, so I can stop wanting to go postal on the Halloween stores that have already been open for a few weeks. Also, I will finally recognize that it it acceptable to purchase Octoberfest &/or Pumpkin beers. as well as other pumpkin products; pretty much anywhere 'cept DD.
I lurves me a good pumpkin beer (Ruble, try Buffalo Bill’s, it’s more pumpkin pie like.)

Mooommm, I thought you hung everything out to dry. Do you put the unders in the dryer because you don’t want the neighborhood to know your thoughts on global warming?

No love for a nice lambrusco, doggio?

{{{rosie}}}

I love growing pumpkins, and I do add what sounds very much like what you lot call pumpkin spice to cakes and cookies, but I do it irrespective of the seasons. I’m a rebel like that.

I may actually try and make punkin pie this year. I have one lovely looking punkin, just a shame I planted 8 plants…

I put the unders in the dryer because they take up too much line space and so much time to hang. Today, I had no choice - between 2 sets of sheets, a big load of towels, plus jeans and shirts, there was no more space. I used to hang them out when I was still retired and could spend half an hour during the week dealing with it, but no more.

And no, global warming has nothing to do with it. **FCD **doesn’t care if people see his thongs hanging out to dry.

We achieved nappage. Go Us! The chore of the day will be when I have to drag the biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road. This bein’ a Moanday holiday, trash pickup is delayed by a day. I have had to hang on to my filthy garbage for eight days. IMAGINE!

When I went outside to sit I noticed we were the only ones who put our trash out last night. I totally forgot it’s a holiday.
Holidays don’t mean much when you still have to irk or you don’t get paid, AND the family doesn’t celebrate like they used to. Holidays were a big thing back when I was a kid, the whole extended family would get together for a picnic or cookout. That changed as the women in the family got jobs outside the home.

I haven’t done much today. My friend who is downy oshun called to tell me she is having a nice time and will be home tonight. I paid a few bills that can be paid online.

One of the people across the alley plants a garden each year and they have a HUGE pumpkin in it. We tried to plant pumpkins when I was a kid, but the dog thought they were balls, ripped them off the vine, and chased them around the yard.
I don’t care much about pumpkin, although I’ve had some pumpkin cookies with cream cheese icing that were good.

Okay, time to do some stuff around here.
The dishes aren’t going to unload themselves.

Despite being out on the line since 9 this morning, FCD’s jeans still had a couple of dampish spots where the fabric was especially thick. That’s what cooler weather does for outside drying.

The last of the leftover ribs are out of the freezer and in the oven. Not sure what starch I’ll choose - tots or croissants or maybe rice? Or maybe just corn and a green veggie? TBD.

Back to the grind tomorrow - at least it’ll be a short week. And it’s one week closer to vacation.

Do Oreos count?

No. I love pumpkin spice, but even I have my limits. Pumpkin spice Oreos are an abomination unto the Lord.

We’re almost completely out of the old house and looking into a Bagster to dump all the trash. Blurf.

September is evil because of ragweed and love bugs. Dang love bugs are everywhere! We didn’t have a whole lot of ‘em in May so I guess they’re makin’ up for it in September. Nasty bugs!

Ah, love bugs - yet another thing I don’t miss about living way down south.

Ribs were good, corn and peas-n-carrots were the sides. Dishes are done. Trash is out. Evening chillage shall ensue.

I made pumpkin spice doughnuts last year. I’d like to try to make them again.

You don’t like Herbie? How uncouth & uncivilized.
Dinner shall commence now: end-of-summer hawt dawgs.

Since I didn’t post after Hermine came to visit: we survived. No damage, lots of rain, and the tarp blew off the camper, so I had to open up windows for a spot of drying. Gotta cold seal the roof, but that’s a project for next weekend, probably.

Spent the afternoon at the mall today, finding something to wear to my brother’s wedding next month. I kinda hate my dress, because it’s not really my style. But the whole wedding is not my style (country chic, the groom is wearing jeans and boots and a bolo tie, ceremony and reception at the pond house, etc.) My teenage daughter assures me that the dress looks good (chambray shirt dress, to be worn with western style boots.) Since I was out shopping anyway, I picked up another dress for a classmate get-together, and a skirt outfit for my niece’s wedding reception. And everything was on markdown, so I didn’t feel too extravagant about buying so much for myself - $60 for the 3 specific outfits, plus another $40 for 2 more tops, a necklace, and a belt.

Now to light the grill - burgers and slaw and NOT salad and watermelon for dinner tonight. And I think there’s another football game on, so happy Labor Day to me!

Loving fall - football and cooler weather - but my tolerance for pumpkin is limited to pie (Grandmother’s recipe,) quick bread, and one cookie recipe. But I love apples in everything except coffee, so there’s the good news for me!

Got my monster cereals! (happy dance)

I may be 47, but I haven’t completely grown up yet, and I’m OK with that.

Had to work a couple extra hours. This being one of six holidays recognized by The Jungle that means 4 hours at 2&1/2 and 2 at time&a-half. I can live with that. I’ll be able to afford that new case of bullets I had my eye on!
