It’s Labor Day, which means all the fall stuff is coming out. The supermarkets have apple-flavored everything, aisles of Halloween candy, and pumpkin spice. College football started Saturday, although my beloved Trojans got stomped by Ala-damn-bama, 54-6.
Ah, yes. Pumpkin spice. I’m quite partial to pumpkin spice. Coffee, oatmeal, candles, actual pumpkin pie. I just like fall in general.
It’s Labor Day in the US and Teacher’s Day in India, so the Euro shift is the only one working today: we do have a local holiday today, but it’s on Thursday.
Doing one of the two exams I’ve got left to finish the coursework I’m doing - it’s those two and then a small “study”. One of the subjects is good (both subject and teacher); the other one… I’m already counting that subject failed, but I guess I should at least fill the exam and send it, in case its teacher gives half a point for bothering.
I have begun my Labor Day by laboring - there’s a load of sheets in the washer and a load of towels on the on-deck circle! Yep, it’s laundry day! Supposed to be sunny and breezy and loverly, so perfect for hanging out our clothes, etc.
It’s also my baby’s birthday - can’t believe she’s 31! No, I wasn’t in labor on Labor Day - she was born on a Thursday. I’ll be nice and let her sleep before calling her to sing.
I can’t be positive, but I think the Italian place where we lunched yesterday gave me considerable gastrointestinal distress. Between 11 and midnight, I went dashing for the porcelain throne at least 4 times. Needless to say, I’m in zombie mode this morning. And I’ll be tossing my leftovers into the garbage. It may just be a coincidence, but I’m not taking chances.
As for pumpkin spice - just in my pumpkin pie, thanks. I don’t need PPS overload.
Happy Labour Day to those who celebrate it! It’s not a holiday here so I am labouring as usual for a Monday. I’ve had a very long catch-up meeting with my boss and we’ve managed to plan a few things for the next couple of weeks - we’ve got a few people off and a lot of work to do in a short amount of time because new systems weren’t available and we’ve not had the relevant training etc. It’s all a bit of a mad rush as usual, every year we say we’ll plan better but it never seems to happen.
I don’t mind a bit of pumpkin stuff but I can do without the overload. Luckily we escaped the US before the descent of pumpkin spice started so we were fortunate. There’s much less of it over here but I expect the coffee chains will start throwing it in everything just because they can.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin and cloudy out with a predicted high of 89 and mostly cloudy for the day. No big plans except maybe goin’ to the [del]hog trough[/del] Golden Corral for N.O.L. the new Cheddars is openin’ today and it’s across the road from GC. Here’s hopin’ folks will be crowdin’ in there for overpriced burgers and GC will be relatively calm. My desire to ever go to Cheddar’s is > 0.
Pumpkin and pumpkin spice stuff is an invention of Satan. There. I said it!
OK, I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify. I’m tryin’ to be good as OYKW is still abed.
Happy Moandy Y’all! Happy Labor Day Amurrkins and anybody else who celebrates.
**swampy **- we went to Cheddar’s not too long ago because we happened to be driving by. It was OK, but I don’t see us making the 25-mile drive just to go there. Then again, I don’t like going to GC because they serve Pepsi rather than Coke products. ick.
Sheets are on the lines, towels are in the washer, and everything else is sorted and waiting. Poor Higgs - every time I walk back towards the bedroom end of the house, she thinks I’m going to let her go see her daddy. Um, nope - he gets to sleep as long as he’d like to. So she’s bummed. The cats, of course, don’t care.
Been in a “Mr. Roboto” funk the last couple of days, reading, browsing the internet, napping, eating, but not really doing much of anything useful. Did find a local restaurant that serves grilled ham-n-cheese sammiches with crinkle-cut french fries and I’ll have to pay it a visit or three in the near future.
And my dishwasher is now working fine, so of course my washer decide to stop right in the middle of a wash cycle. It’s nearing 20 years old, so it may be time for a new one, but being single it only has had to do 5-6 loads a month at best, so there is limited wear and tear on it. I think I’ll call a repairman, expensive but if it’s something they can fix, it’s going to be cheaper than getting a new one.
Got bills to pay and a kitchen to clean; we’ll see if typing on the MMP gets me out of my funk and back to being a semi-productive member of society…
Pumpkin Spice belongs in baked goods - pie, bread, cookies, cake, donuts, and an occasional bagel - only. Maybe hot mulled cider, too, but that’s it. Keep it away from my coffee, my chicken dish, my salad, my air fresheners. Nyah.
**MetalMouse **- **swampy **is good at yelling at people who need to be motivated - I’m sure he’d be happy to drill-instructor your slothful self into productivity! Regarding appliances, when our dryer died, I didn’t even consider having it repaired. It had died on us once before, and frankly, I wasn’t too impressed with it anyway. Hard to believe Kenmore was a go-to brand once upon a time. We got a cheaper, larger-drum replacement that I just love! Extra space to tumble makes for faster drying.
**FCD **got up and showered, and I was in line right after him, so I’m clean and dressed more or less respectively. Towels just went out on the lines and jeans are in the washer. I’ve breakfasted and caffeinated. Pretty doggone productive for so early on a holiday!
I had my pumpkin spice latte this morning, steamed skim milk, light whipped cream, extra shot. It was awesome!
I also found a ripe pumpkin on the mystery vine in the backyard. Actually, it was in the neighbor’s yard, but it’s from our vine and in a part of the yard that no one uses, and since no one picked it since it was ripe and I’d hate to pass up on perfectly good pumpkin custard, I took it. I’m thinking that the previous family disposed of their Halloween jack o’ lantern in the backyard and the seeds took root.
I’m with swampy and rosie on the pumpkin pie spice thing. Pie? good. Donuts and other pastries? good. Chicken salad? I’ll pass.
Notre Dame lost a barn burner to Texas yesterday.
I have laundry in the washer right now and am getting ready to begin the lasagne ready to pop in the oven this afternoon to take to the wedding. Other than some general housework, that’s what I’ll be doing today before going into town.
I took Gordie on a nice walk ,and made a country ham, black bean and egg burrito with ghost pepper queso. Sorta (red)Necks-Mex style cooking.
Blood orange? yes. Pumpkin? no.
: spoons **The Cute One[sup][sup]TM[/sup][/sup] :
red, we’re having lasagne at my friend’s rehearsal dinner. And since a significant portion of the guests will be from my hockey tailgate group or the Hockey Convention Peeps, the soup course will be Patrón.
It’s a messed up day and I had typed out a long post and then thought why dump on y’all so I deleted it.
I need some breakfast, but since it’s after 12 I guess that makes it lunch. Then I’ll go sit in the sun for a bit to get my dose of vitamin D for the day. But first something to eat so I can take my pills that I was supposed to take at 10.
I need to make an appointment to put the truck in the shop as the check engine light is coming on. I think I have a recall notice for that so hopefully it won’t cost me anything.
I have a long drive for a party on Saturday, so it needs to be fixed by then.
So, first some food, my pills, some sun, and then decide what to do next.
Ran into Pumpkin Spiced Oreos the other day. Do. Not. Want.
They were next to Pumpkin Spiced Cheerios.
Might as well see if the Count Chocula is eatable this year. Has been flavored cardboard for a score of years or more, but hope springs eternal.
