Seems I’ve often heard that kind of talk before.
I got a nasty gash on my forhead from wrestling with my umbrella on the way to the library today. Santa Cruz is known for it’s epic storms, but it’s just been going on and on since Christmas.
Be careful, there. If you think the Southern Californians are annoying right now bitching about all the rain, can you IMAGINE how bad it’s going to be if it snows?
We’ll be insufferable!
This isn’t just whining. We don’t have the infrastructure to handle this.
This is getting serious in my area. Several people just died in a mud slide including a family with little kids. My step-sister’s neighborhood was just evacuated. Every highway and road going South or East going out of town is closed for the forseeable future and over 20,000 people cannot get to work or back home.
This is fucked.
Haj
Yeah, I remember that one. But I guaran-ass-tee you that when it snows in the city of San Diego I’m going to be a bitch on wheels.
It’s getting serious in San Diego, too. Not so bad as northern areas, but we had a tree fall on the highway, and someone died. There are spinouts everywhere, and some cliffside homes (yes, yes I know) are losing some land and their decks.
At this point the water falling just has nowhere to go. While we need the water, we need it in a slower manner.
Praise Og! It’s sunny again in Mission Viejo!
It’s sunny in Santa Monica! Hurrah!
Now those of us here in the southland can return to our normally scheduled schadenfreude for the rest of the country’s winter misery! Ahhhhh … .

We just had a false fire alarm at work (we congregate on the lawn) and I’m happy to say that it’s now only partly cloudy.
If I’d had to stand out there in the rain for a false alarm, I’d be back in here bitching like I’ve never bitched before.
<---- might need the shades later on
I’ve been out all day but wanted to check the news to see if they got anybody dug out of that mudslide yet. What a nightmare.
You know what else is fucked? We’re still said to be in a drought because the reservoirs for the state supply are located farther north, where rain isn’t falling so much. Why the hell can’t they build some storage here in the south?
We have our own storage in Santa Barbara. We did recently hook up to State Water (don’t get me started on that fucking idiocy) but we don’t use it. After these last couple of weeks, the reservoirs are full to the brim.
Haj
That’s good…I just wonder why there can’t be more storage all over the state.
From what I’ve heard, most of the state reservoirs are much farther north…but that still seems odd, since the Lake Taho area is covered in snow, which should create quite a bit of run-off. And then there’s the groundwater issue.
Ah, well, I can’t figure any of it. And here we’ve had, what?, 20 inches of rain at the beginning of the season, and we’re still due for a drought? Eh?
Tahoe.
Yeah, it’s not funny now. Maybe this will be the catylist for the state government to help LA and San Diego figure out a water handling infrastructure. Of course, it could also get into typical government kookiness and lock up.
