The Replacements perfoming on The Tonight Show tonight!

I know there are a few 'Mats fans on here so I thought I would give a head’s up in case you missed i

The irony is Fallon’s show is taped in Studio 8H, the old home of SNL. As any good 'Mats fan knows this was the site of their ill fated performance some years back that resulted in them being banned from the show by Lorne Michaels.

Also, Keith Richards is also on tonight’s show. It would be amazing if he sat in on a song. No idea if that happens but this picture posted to their Facebook page a short time ago.

Who’s going to be the second guitar? Slim Dunlap?

Sweet. Will Tommy Stinson be riding the bus to the studio?

Thanks for the reminder! Last night I saw their name on the “Tomorrow’s Guests” promo but forgot all about it.

Slim Dunlap suffered a stroke in 2012 so he won’t be there. Last year Paul & Tommy were touring with Dave Minehan on guitar and Josh Freese on drums; don’t know if that is still the line-up.

Seeing them in St Paul Saturday night. Can’t hardly wait.

Saw them when they were on SNL, and will watch them again tonight.

A couple of things culled from the Internet about this:

Jim Walsh, who edited the Replacements oral history “All Over But the Shouting”
shared a post on Facebook that says

The Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me FB page just shared this picture of Tommy with one of Jimmy’s cue cards.

No clue what exactly will happen, but it seems like it may be pretty epic.

I may need my smelling salts.

Saw them last year at Riot Fest in Chicago and they were incredible. They seemed like they were having the best time, like they were just jamming in their garage together.

Dammit I want to see the Replacements live. They’re playing in the Phoenix area in a couple of weeks; that’s only 400 miles away. Maybe I should go.

Killed. It.

Wow, that was awesome.

Didn’t expect Alex Chilton.

Crushed it.

Of all the bands I’ve seen in my life, I’ve seen the Replacements twice as many times as any other. Well, maybe the Suburbs sneak in there, only because they opened for the Mats all the time.

Yeah, that was a great performance. Now I really want to see the Replacements live. But it would cost me hundreds of dollars to go to the Phoenix show. Still, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve done something like that to see a concert.

I’m 1,933 miles away and have tickets. Want me to pick you up on the way?

Hell yes! Turn left in Albuquerque to find me.*

Saw them at the Boston Calling festival last Sunday night. It was pretty much everything I could have hoped for. They played a lot of stuff from their catalogue, leaning more to their scrappy early stuff instead of their sensitive later stuff – so while the quiet, thoughtful tunes weren’t played at all, the energy level stayed high throughout the set. Westerberg and Stinson seemed to be getting along, which was nice, and in true Replacements fashion they were far from perfect, with Westerberg apparently forgetting the words to the end of “Androgynous.” But that was okay, the entire audience knew the words and we all sang it for him until he got caught up. They played a couple of interesting covers (Maybelline, and a Jackson Five song) as well as crowd favorites like “Color Me Impressed,” “I Will Dare” and “Bastards of Young.” They left the stage and quickly came back on, saying they got permission to play one more song, and did “Alex Chilton.” It was very exciting.

No extra tickets though. Gotta arrive in Phoenix 9/26 and not planning on leaving until 10/1 or later.

Oh, and then there is the private security check and the bond required  .

Well like I said, I really want to see the Replacements, so…

Actually I’m going to be out of town that weekend or I would probably be there. I could catch them at the Austin City Limits music festival in October; Austin’s only 700 miles away.

Oh, by the way, I found this article that has a video of last night’s performance.

Saw their reunion show at Riot Fest Chicago last year. Helluva good show.

Just watched the Tonight Show performance. Paul looks good for 54, especially after the heavy drinking, etc. they were known for back in the day. Also good to see Tommy playing with Paul instead of fucking Guns 'n Roses. The last time I saw them was in '89. I doubt I’ll get a chance to see them this time but it’s good to see them playing again.

Missed. It.
