I just learned about this. It’s possible thsat it’s not as bad as it appears, but I wouldn’t bet on that:

Yesterday, a committee in the state House decided that the ungrateful child peasants who work don’t deserve a lunch break. That’s right. Not only is child labor back in Louisiana (and other red states), the poor souls stuck doing the work don’t even get the privilege of lunch if the GOP has their way.

With this in mind, there’s no reason to expect these measures to disappear anytime soon.

I can easily visualize children coming up to him and saying that.

Exactly. Like an 11 year old working a shitty job is agonizing on the loss of productivity and income potential by taking off unpaid time to eat. I scoffed so hard I pulled a muscle. It’s like they way they don’t say “anti-union” when pushing legislation, they whitewash it into “right to work”.

• Do business owners prefer juvenile employees to adults?
• Are there just not enough adults available to work these jobs?
• Can they pay kids less than minimum wage?
• Is it somehow an anti-immigration play?

And, corollary question: Why are adult voters (i.e., the kids’ parents) OK with making their kids’ working conditions worse?

Less likely to complain about working conditions. Especially the ones from countries where the working conditions are worse.
They’re not supposed to be here in the first place so it serves them right.
Easier to beat the shit out of when they act up.
Fit into those small areas that adults can’t fit in, thus mining more coal.
