I understand anti-trolls do not think ripping the consonants and vowels off of a post is evil, the tree of thread autonomy must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of trolls and sea lions and all that.
You missed it several times, in several posts, or I wouldn’t have posted myself. Sorry, it was just getting on my nerves and I thought you might like to know.
Or were you saying that the GOP actually was trying to prevent its people from saying something? If so, then my apologies for having misunderstood. I thought you were saying that the GOP was censuring people like Cheney and Romney for going against Trump in even minor ways.
OK, thanks for pointing it out. I’ll work harder at checking for that, and double check my spell checker too.
(I should have left what my phone autofilled from swiping the keyboard. “OK, thanks fit pointing that our. I’ll with harder at cheecking for that, and double check my sorrel cheecker, to.”)
You could, but doing so would be making up your own rules of conversation. That would backfire and make you seem more disingenuous.
You seem to misunderstand what I said. I’m not proposing some new idea for you to consider. I’m trying to inform you of information something you seem to be unaware of. The words “no one,” “nobody,” “nothing,” etc. are not always used in a literal fashion. Someone saying “all ___” do something doesn’t inherently mean there are not some insignificant exceptions.
It’s just how language works. I’m taking you at your word that you don’t know this, and trying to help, rather than putting you on ignore like I did on the old board.
I will give you a test. @Exapno_Mapcase has said he thinks that being a sock and troll is worse than COVID. Do you think he means that literally?
And, I promise to other posters that this will be the last I mention it. I know TOWP kinda hijacked the thread. Maybe I’m too credulous to think he might genuinely not understand.
Do I think that he means that literally? No. That said, let’s see if you’re as obliging as I am: Exapno_Mapcase said that I “won’t concede that they are still Republican and will vote Republican.” This struck me as genuinely odd; my point is that they’re still Republican and vote Republican. Do you think he literally means that?
Exapno_Mapcase later added: “I literally mean nobody should ever vote Republican. You say you will vote Republican.” — which I took to mean that, sure, sometimes he says stuff that isn’t meant to be taken literally; but that he’s trying really hard to emphasize that, no, sometimes, as with this first part here, I mean that absolutist statement literally. (And he then immediately goes on to claim I said that I will vote Republican — either because he doesn’t realize he’s wrong and is serious, or because he knows it’s not so but doesn’t literally mean it.)
Sure, but sometimes they are used in a literal fashion with no exceptions. That’s why I ask for clarification: if they were always used literally, I wouldn’t bother to ask; and, if they were never used literally, I wouldn’t bother to ask.
Pot, meet kettle. Seriously, this is to laugh, except it’s so serious. It’s the Democrats that are trying to ensure they never lose another election? And they are doing that by making sure more citizens can vote? Really? Do you even listen to yourself, Turd Cruz?
And no, the Dems are NOT trying to expand the vote to illegal aliens. That is a Republican [Russian/Qanon] lie to stir their base. Find me someone who claims to want to expand the vote to non-citizens.
As for “child molesters”, what progressives are pursuing is the restoration of voting rights to convicted felons after they have ended their sentence. It’s called reintegrating into society, the goal of rehabilitation. Having a stake in the outcome of society and having access to the full range of society is an important step in fighting relapse. However, there is legitimate room to consider the situation of “child molesters” as a special case, given that preventing recurrence is such a challenge and the risk is so great.
But the Turd doesn’t care about nuance or truth. He just wants to feed the MAGA base, make them more angry and reactionary.
And THIS is a big example of the evil that has infected the Republican Party. Anyone who supports this and continues to vote for it is aiding and assisting an evil lying scum of a party.
The next election in Georgia. There’s a long line outside the polling station that the Republicans want to hinder. One man approaches a hot, sweating man waiting in line.
Man #1: You look like you’re hot and sweaty.
Man #2: (distractedly, not really interested) Yeah.
Man #1: I could give you a hat, for a small consideration. Keep the sun out of your eyes. There’s no law against giving out hats.
Man #2: Don’t need a hat. I’m thirsty.
Man #1: Take a good look. It’s a REALLY nice hat. (Holds it out conspicuously)
Man #2: It’s just a ha-… Hey! What’s that inside?
Man #1: Sshhh! Not so loud! It’s a plastic bag with a tube.
Man #2; Is that full of water?
Man #1: Quiet! You want me to get busted?
Man #2: How much?
Man #1: Five dollars.
Man #2: For that? That’s ridiculous!
Man #1: Okay. I’m sure there’s someone else in line who’ll be interested in a nice hat. Looks like a long line ahead of you…
Wait… would it be illegal to sell water to people in the line? Or just to give it to them? What if they already own the water, and I’m just carrying it from their car to them?
God I hate that child molesters trope. You can literally apply it to anything. Democrats would allow child molesters to go to and ice cream parlor. Democrats would allow child molesters to walk in a park. Democrats would allow child molester to watch Netflix at home. The US needs to decide one way or another once and for all what they feel about child molesters. Either they need to make child molestation a life sentence without parole, or else they need to get over the fact that child molesters released after time served are going to be part of society. The current ambiguous situation of we are releasing you from prison but we expect you to be a pariah who all decent people to shun and despise you wherever you go, is not tenable.
@Buck_Godot agree, they’re fully deserving of rehabilitation as much as anyone else and a clean slate in society - if they’re truly reformed.
@CalMeacham I have no idea what your selling water thing is supposed to mean.
Anyway, the other thing to bear in mind about Republicans is not just that they have little governing ability of their own, but even in resistance, they’re cowards. Suppose that one day Democrats did enact the dystopia that right-wingers often talk about - FEMA camps, Constitution trampled, all guns confiscated - what would right-wingers do about it? For most, a big heap of nothing. They’d whine and moan, but wouldn’t do a thing to stop it.
Every time the Republicans want to cut taxes, the Dems should say, “they want to cut taxes on child molesters! We want to raise the taxes on child molesters, but the Republicans won’t let us.”
It doesn’t prohibit selling anyone food or water, but I’d be wary of doing so – selling looks an awful lot like giving, and the police would be liable to arrest first and ask questions later. especially if the point really is intimidation.
I’d be wary of sharing my bottle of water with someone else in line, too.
That law seems to indicate that it would be ok for election officials to offer refreshments (and bathroom breaks?) in case of long slow lines, on a nonpartisan basis. Unless there are specific prohibitions against that elsewhere in the codes.
Jesus Christ, Republicans, this is an affront to modern democracy. Have you, at long last, no shame at all?
“Other than assassination, I have no other way other than voting,” he responded.
A spokesman for the Michigan GOP told the paper on Friday that Weiser “has personally donated to all Republican congressmen in Michigan and is focused on defeating Democrats, rather than involving the party in primary fights.”
Newsweek reached out to the Michigan Republican Party for comment and will update this article with any response.
A spokesperson for Whitmer’s office told The Detroit Free Press that the state’s elected officials saw a “dramatic increase” in death threats during Trump’s time in office and said Weiser’s comments were “downright dangerous.”
