That’s right - meddle around in Iraq and get kidnapped. Then blame your ill fortune on American and British aggression. Assholes!

So when exactly did the “irrelevant non-sequitur law” go into effect? You can bet a Democrat passed it.
According to a recent UNC Chapel Hill study the percentage is closer to 25% but that’s still enough to have serious implications for those who believe that human life begins at conception. That’s roughly 1,000,000 lost fertilized eggs per year in the United States alone.
If you believe that embryos have souls and souls go to heaven then 1/4 to 1/3 of the inhabitants of heaven have never walked upon the Earth, which is very odd to consider … .
It’s relevant alright.
This is why I sometimes find myself thinking that rightwingers are either retarded, or pathologically dishonest. What a lame, lame strawman.*
Is there anything about the OP’s characterization that says Democrats never do the same thing, or that no individual republicans ever speak anything else?
Is there anything about that cartoon that suggests that it represents all democrats and all republicans in all situations? It’s describing a situation that is a frequent occurrence in such places as Faux News; it does not take the position that this situation is the only situation that ever occurs between republicans and democrats.
In other words, a democrat getting fed up and calling names does not in any way invalidate what makes that cartoon pointed and funny
*If you’re actually retarded, Twin, please accept my apologies.
Who is Dick Cheney?
I give up: What’s working?
Iraq?
Torture?
Saddam’s WMD’s?
Bin Laden’s jail cell?
Running up an enormous deficiet instead of raisng taxes to pay for a “depeseratly needed” war?
It’s the betrayal. Several of my centerish friends are like that. They agonized over it, and decided that, in a time of crisis, they were obligated to support GeeDub because he needed the resolution as back up, to empower his negotiations as a means to avoid war. Which, you will recall, he was swearing up and down was his intention.
Since I never trusted him as far as I could fling a rhino, that sense of rage is not mine. I wasn’t betrayed, I never trusted him to begin with. But those who did, and have the good sense God gave a goose…they be pissed! Hooo, doggies!
Don’t get fooled again.
It’s not a strawman. It’s pointing out hypocrisy.
No. But why then isn’t the thread dedicated to all politicians? The implication is there. It doesn’t say Some Republicans. It says Republicans.
What a joke. It describes a “frequent occurrence”? Maybe in the liberal fantasy world. You poor, poor, put upon, misunderstood souls.
I guess I just have a higher standard of humor.
One of my rules of thumb is, if the response to a criticism is basically “I know you are but what am I,” rather than an actual response to the substance of the criticism, then it’s probably found its mark.
Well, this is going well!
Why does it have serious implications?
Again, why?
Presumably because if we assume that
(A) All embryo’s have souls.
and
(B) God is omniscient and knows which embryo’s would take and which wouldn’t.
It means he deliberately created a lot of souls simply for the purpose of their darting back up to heaven. What’d be the point of that?
This is usually answered with something along the lines of “No one can know God’s plan. There’s a reason for everything.”
What’s the difference between an embryo dying and a baby suffering crib death? Also, although it’s been awhile since I’ve been to church, since when were we supposed to understand all of God’s design anyways? Why does anyone have to die to go to heaven?
Also, I’m agnostic, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight. I just found that the logic used in that argument was sloppy.
Beats me. Although one could argue that since you’re burdened with original sin from the moment you pop out of the womb, it’s not 100% guaranteed that your soul will go to heaven if you die as a baby, since you need to be baptised else the stain of that original sin will send you straight to hell, or at least limbo.
Still, crib death and the hell/purgatory-bound souls of babies are just two of the many, many, many reasons why I don’t believe in God so it makes little odds to me either way.
Quite a bit, really. Has a lot to do with that icky science stuff our president is trying to suppress. An embryo which does not attach to the uterine wall could have any number of things wrong with it and would probably not survive the entire gestation period, even if the egg did manage to adhere to the uterine wall because of serious genetic defects (see earlier cite), or here. A baby who dies from SIDS is a fully formed and functioning human being. Most of the time, the embryo in question is only a clump of cells nowhere near fully formed.
YES! What do I win?
I just figured out a way for the Reader to make enough money to reverse the P2P model.
Sell dish towels marketed as “Official SDMB keyboard/monitor cleaner upper”. There are millions to be made!
’luci I really need to learn to stop reading your posts with the assumption it’s another left-wing screed and actually comtemplate many of them deeper. great post.
