I just saw an ad here in Sacramento, not aimed at any particular candidate, but against EVERY Democrat. Democrats will raise taxes, they will give us open borders, they will take away your health care, and, worst of all, Nancy Pelosi will be back in power.
I’ve seen a TV ad here telling us not to vote for either party, they’re all crooks, but not saying who to vote for. In fact, it explicitly says it’s not promoting any candidate. For that matter I see a LOT of ads from both parties telling me who not to vote for, but not saying who to vote for or why.
The Republican candidate for Governor of Georgia, he of the “let’s do everything we can to keep black people from voting”, is running ads attacking his black Democratic opponent with the headline “she burned the flag.” You have to dig deep to find out that it was the Georgia state flag that she burned, several years ago, and it was the old state flag, not even the new one, the old one modeled on the Confederate battle flag.
Oh I think he and everyone knows which flag they’re talking about, and they’re just as offended by the burning of that one as they would be if it had been Old Glory.
That’s nothing. In Dodge City, KS, they opened two new meat packing facilities which turned the city 60% Hispanic. Suddenly, the Republican county clerk decided that the polling would be moved from the city center to outside the town limits, a mere one mile from the nearest bus stop. As if that wasn’t bad enough, that voting location will be expected to serve 13,000 voters, a tad higher than the statewide average of 1,200 voters per polling location.
The Kansas elections directory praised the city clerk’s efforts.
Underline mine. I work for county, not city government in Colorado, but that sounds illegal. I work closely with the County Clerk to make maps of polling locations.
Actually, this may not be all bad. Dodge City has had only one polling place since 2002. The former lone voting location was located close to the country club, in the ‘white’ part of town. And Hispanic turnout in the 2014 election was just 17%.
Southern Republicans can attack from both angles: desecration of the American flag, and desecration of the state (and usually confederate) flag. It’s a white Anglo, descendants of slave-owners apologist thing. And it’s very real.
