The Republicans won! Nener NENER neneener

Goddamn post-eating fire-breathing whore of a Board.

If I had meant “liberals”, I would have said “liberals”. I did not mean “liberals”, I meant all who act in the way I describe.

Interesting sidebar - you know what a “liberal” is to me? A “liberal” is a person whose political and socioeconomic views are of a sort leaning far to the left of the political spectrum that I generally disagree with; but who also deserve my attention, respect, and politeness so long as I am afforded the same.

A “liberal” to me is someone I should listen to and try to learn from, so I can make sure that the ideology I have chosen is the best one for me. And adjust my ideas as need be should theirs prove superior.

Make no mistake about it - I do at times refer to “liberals” in the tone of a vast monolithic group of people in opposition to a particular political viewpoint which I hold. But there must be a specific issue-driven cause for me to do so:

  • Lesbian and gay rights, protections, and equality (in which camp, I am a liberal).
  • Gun control.
  • Energy policy (where I am not a conservative, not a liberal).
  • Tort reform.

This particular issue which I originally posted upon has no specific issue-driven factor which allows me to lump a single group in as a target of my wrath. There really weren’t any issues of note that I saw, one way or another, in this election. I have read, in the two years coming up to this election, the wild predictions of Members here, the media pundits, the news outlets, online columnists, Hollywood “celebrities”, and people of all backgrounds, belief systems, and ideologies about how the Republicans were “gonna pay”. Because they were “evil”, “didn’t care about the economy”, “just wanted a war”, “were power-mad”, “wanted to slaughter children”, etc. While many of these, and I admit, the majority of these personages seemed to be “liberals”, it’s by no means an exclusive club.

I consider the miscreants I called out here to be in a similar group to cell-phone-yakking inattentive drivers, or perhaps Scientologists. They cross party and ideological lines of offense.

I do remember several posters who identified as “conservatives” fretting and admitting (with grudging tone) that “yes, the Republicans will pay for Bush in 2002…I’m really worried that we will have an openly hostile split Executive/Legislative Branch like in 1995”. I have no way to Search through the huge number of threads from more than two years back, since I can typically barely get on to post here anymore. Since I remember people of all political bent making these dire predictions, and saw the same from many outlets leading up to the election, I therefore intended my criticism to apply to people of all political bents or leanings who exhibited the behaviors mentioned.

YOU, however, could not know this, because 1) you are not in my head, 2) I did not go into this level of detail in the first post, and 3) you did not ask me to clarify “Anth, are you being a bitch and picking on liberals here, or am I misreading it?”

I guess in the rapid-fire pace of the Board it’s not really practical to ask or take the time to dig into things overly much. I know I’ve made worse mistakes. So on point (1) no one is at fault, on point (2) I am at fault, and on point (3) you are at fault.

So whose fault is it? I guess a “liberal” would throw up their hands and say “Society’s”.

This is actually an interesting if slightly weird point.

The people who made the predictions on the boards were, by and large, liberals. Yeah, there were some others, but we all know exactly whom we are talking about. Even if you did not intend a partisan criticism, does the fact that the individuals criticised self-identify as such make it a partisan criticism anyway?

Very crude analogy: “No, I am not insulting Catholics, just people who have ever taken Communion in their lifetimes.”

It’s not totally apt, but it’s the best I can do on short notice.

Not criticising you specifically, just pursuing what I see to be at the crux of our disagreement.

I’ll buy that for a dollar. If someone really had to be blamed, it would be my job. Because if I weren’t pissed off and looking for an argument on a message board in order to compensate for my perceived alienation from my labor and disempowerment, I never would have read this thread in the first place.

Ok, so that was a bullshit liberal answer.

But it’s not the “making predictions” that’s “fcking stupid" it’s making "fcking stupid” predictions when liberal and insane. To name a few of the insane who are no longer with us: look at ChasE or Chronolicht(sp)'s posts. One was ranting and raving that Republicans only want to allow the right to bear arms because they revelled in the deaths of babies. The other was saying that Dubya’s accent was some sort of mind control plot.

These people, by any rational standard are insane. As are posters on the right who do exactly the same thing when Clinton is mentioned.

It’s not the same behavior (“making predictions”), it’s “making f*cking stupid and insane predictions” that I believe Anth was talking about.

Fenris

Fenris, better get your computer checked - it keeps turning u’s into *'s. (Of course, I wouldn’t mind if it turned me into a star, but that’s another matter entirely.)

Esprix

That’s because u R a *! LOLOLOLOL

(O god. I’ve just turned into a 14 year old weenie. Shoot me now.)

Fenris, disgusted that he’s actually going to post this.

I thought he was a ~, not a *.

Esprix is a tilde? A squiggly thing? A “you know…that curvey thing that goes over an N in Spanish words”?

What are you talking about?

Fenris

I think he could explain it a lot better than I could.

I ~ Fenris!

As I said in an earlier post, I will not share my finanical information on this board because it is none of your buisness. I am keeping more money due to the tax cut. That is all you need to know. If you do not believe me that is fine.

Slee

andros,

Right on. From your post it sounded like you didn’t have a Roth or any other investment going on.

At the same time it sounds like we could hang out, disagree with each other totally and then walk away as friends.

And how exactly is Nener supposed to be spelled?

Well, 90% of me doesn’t believe you at all, and 10% of me thinks you’re getting something like an extra $0.29 a week.

:snicker:

Well, you don’t have to believe me. Look at the numbers others have posted.
