Goddamn post-eating fire-breathing whore of a Board.
If I had meant “liberals”, I would have said “liberals”. I did not mean “liberals”, I meant all who act in the way I describe.
Interesting sidebar - you know what a “liberal” is to me? A “liberal” is a person whose political and socioeconomic views are of a sort leaning far to the left of the political spectrum that I generally disagree with; but who also deserve my attention, respect, and politeness so long as I am afforded the same.
A “liberal” to me is someone I should listen to and try to learn from, so I can make sure that the ideology I have chosen is the best one for me. And adjust my ideas as need be should theirs prove superior.
Make no mistake about it - I do at times refer to “liberals” in the tone of a vast monolithic group of people in opposition to a particular political viewpoint which I hold. But there must be a specific issue-driven cause for me to do so:
- Lesbian and gay rights, protections, and equality (in which camp, I am a liberal).
- Gun control.
- Energy policy (where I am not a conservative, not a liberal).
- Tort reform.
This particular issue which I originally posted upon has no specific issue-driven factor which allows me to lump a single group in as a target of my wrath. There really weren’t any issues of note that I saw, one way or another, in this election. I have read, in the two years coming up to this election, the wild predictions of Members here, the media pundits, the news outlets, online columnists, Hollywood “celebrities”, and people of all backgrounds, belief systems, and ideologies about how the Republicans were “gonna pay”. Because they were “evil”, “didn’t care about the economy”, “just wanted a war”, “were power-mad”, “wanted to slaughter children”, etc. While many of these, and I admit, the majority of these personages seemed to be “liberals”, it’s by no means an exclusive club.
I consider the miscreants I called out here to be in a similar group to cell-phone-yakking inattentive drivers, or perhaps Scientologists. They cross party and ideological lines of offense.
I do remember several posters who identified as “conservatives” fretting and admitting (with grudging tone) that “yes, the Republicans will pay for Bush in 2002…I’m really worried that we will have an openly hostile split Executive/Legislative Branch like in 1995”. I have no way to Search through the huge number of threads from more than two years back, since I can typically barely get on to post here anymore. Since I remember people of all political bent making these dire predictions, and saw the same from many outlets leading up to the election, I therefore intended my criticism to apply to people of all political bents or leanings who exhibited the behaviors mentioned.
YOU, however, could not know this, because 1) you are not in my head, 2) I did not go into this level of detail in the first post, and 3) you did not ask me to clarify “Anth, are you being a bitch and picking on liberals here, or am I misreading it?”
I guess in the rapid-fire pace of the Board it’s not really practical to ask or take the time to dig into things overly much. I know I’ve made worse mistakes. So on point (1) no one is at fault, on point (2) I am at fault, and on point (3) you are at fault.
So whose fault is it? I guess a “liberal” would throw up their hands and say “Society’s”.
