I do agree with you that, as there is not especially a good debate here and that this is more of an educational thread this deserves to be in GQ or MPSIMS. However I think that it would be sent immediately back here. All (or most) things Goddish seem to be in here, most likely because of their propensity for debate.

If nothing else then the “wittnessing” by the thiests and athiests to each other about each other’s POV is worth the price of admission to GD.

Unfortunately what you say about religious threads is very true. Since both sides regularly butt heads (and many of them become buttheads) what could be an informative thread with polite discourse devolves into a debate. This particular thread began the express to Hell in post 2.
I can’t stand witnessing and will avoid those threads but I like to read about other people’s religions or belief structures, whether there is a deity involved or not. I will attempt to be polite in my questions and rebuttals and, if I am not then mea culpa (sorry, Catholic upbringing).

Maybe we should create a forum where “Brights” (what conceited BS, that is) and fundamentalists can go to beat the crap out of each other and leave the middle of the road people alone so we can talk like grownups and learn from each other.

Not close, Awake! is ¡despertar! However the Watchtower title of the magazine used in Spanish is ¡Despertad! That is in Spanish using the old fashioned third person, the effect is like seeing “thou shall awake”, even though it is uncommon to use the “vosotros” third person in Latin America (And even in Spain), it is common to see the old fashion third person show up in Spanish bible editions; so I think the JW church just selected the tense to emulate the bible.
