The Royal Wedding; will it be watched by you?

So who here is planning on watching the royal wedding? I am despite coverage starting at 4am here on the Eastern Seaboard of the US. On of the “benefits” of being unemployed* is having alot of free time on weekdays. My mother is too (at her own house), but unlike me she actually had a job to request vacation time off for (well technically this is her Good Friday holiday). She’s also bought some of the comemorative plates. She has zero English, Scottish, or Irish blood in her family and as near as we can tell the most recent ancestors on my father’s side to have been British subjects died 200 years ago.

*I actually got a job this morning, but I don’t start until next month.

My wife likes royals, so she will want to watch it. If she is home we will watch it together.

Not only won’t I watch it, I’m getting increasingly (and irrationally) upset everytime someone refers to it as *The *Royal Wedding, when it should be *A *Royal Wedding. I don’t like weddings so much, except for the booze. So, watching on TV does nothing for me.

Really odd phrasing in the subject line. Not sure what that’s called…maybe passive voice or something.

Otherwise, no, I won’t be watching the royal wedding.

I’m hoping to be away out in the hills (weather permitting) so I put “no” as my answer. Inevitably I’ll end up seeing some of it at some point, it’ll be pretty ubiquitous in the news for a while.

I have to work, and normally I’d be saying “Who the hell wants to watch that shit? Blah, blah, blah… and get off my lawn.”

But I actually am somewhat interested in this one. One day this couple will be Canada’s monarchy and could be for an extended period. But, again, I have to work.

I’ll DVR it, and fast forward through the dull parts. Should take about 5 minutes, I assume.

I have to work, so I’ll catch the highlights on the evening shows. Maybe I’ll DVR an hour or two.

I care so little about Prince Whathisname marrying Lady Whosherface, that it’s a miracle I took to the time to answer this poll … with a ‘no’, by the way.

I was studying history in London the summer of '81 and stood in the street outside St. Paul’s to watch Diana and Charles come and go, so I’m afraid I’m kinda Royal Wedding’d out. Still, I think Will & Kate make a great couple, wish them the best and am quite sure I’ll still be privy to much of the festivities just as a function of living on the same planet.

I’ll be watching it at the pub wearing a pretty dress and a wedding hat.

Yeah.

I’m not sure. He is my future king, and it’s a once in a generation event. That said, it will probably be rather dull. I may watch it just to wind up my left wing friends by telling them how much I loved it.

No. But I have been invited to a “Stuff the Royal Wedding” party, the evening of, down in Brick Lane. So I guess I can’t say I’m completely ignoring it, either.

TBH, I couldn’t care less about the wedding itself, but it’s nice to get a day off work.

Nope, not unless something interesting happens and it ends up on youtube or something.

I’m not really into weddings or royalty.

I guess I like dresses, though. And spectacle. So I guess, now that I think about it, I might look it up on youtube later anyway to see if there’s like a short clip of any good parts or something. I still voted no, though.

I marked “yes, but not live” on the poll, but now I’m starting to change my mind. Now I’m seriously considering getting up at some godawful hour to see it just so I can watch it without constant interruptions from my kids on one hand, or snarky comments from my husband on the other. Might be worth it just for the peace and solitude.

I’m probably more interested in the Royals than the average person, but mostly I just want to watch for the fashion. I love those hats fancy English women wear, and of course there’s Kate’s dress to oooh and aaah over.

And, okay…maybe I just want to disappear into fantasy Cinderella-land for awhile. Is that so wrong?

I voted “crowds in London” because, well, I live here. I won’t be in the streets, though, I will be in my local pub. Which is 300 yards from my house and opening at 9am on Friday.

(It’s also the first day of a four-day weekend and the first weekend after the end of Passover, aka No Beer For Jews Week. Basically I and everyone I know are going to get shitfaced, starting from 5:02pm Thursday and not stopping until some time midday Monday.)

I have to work Friday, and I’d either have to stay up all night or get up at what, three in the morning? Nnnnnno.

It would be fun to be there, though.

Good luck, kids! Many years of happiness!

And of course, my favourite, ‘man falling down cliff’;

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo

Yes, but not live. That is, it will be impossible to avoid watching it, as it’s going to be everywhere for a week or so.

On the actual day, I’m taking my boat to Lulworth Cove - hopefully, it’ll be fairly quiet with lots of other people staying home to watch the wedding.

I have not yet met one person who’s even going to watch it on telly. I have a feeling that viewing figures will nevertheless somehow hold up. For me it will merely be day eight of this epic eleven day double holiday weekend that we are currently enjoying. I’ll be honest and say that I will probably watch a bit of it as I lounge around the house, but mindless TV watching is all part of the holiday experience for me. I am slightly interested in it just because it is a big public event. Like the Cup Final even if you don’t care who’s playing.
