What, for you, are the saddest music videos you’ve ever seen? The most recent one for me is The Scientist by Coldplay. The concept of what happens at the end just crushes me. What are some other really good ones?
Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. Even if you don’t like country, you’ll love this video. It is so heartwrenchingly sad. (To tell you how good it is, the director did the video for free after hearing Johnny’s cover of the song!)
“Unbreak My Heart” by Toni Braxton…while the song seems to convey that the guy left her, the video tends to give the impression that her boyfriend/husband dies.

right on. Music videos involving subject matter like that - the death of a loved one, especially involving a romantic relationship really tug at my heartstrings…
Jeremy by Pearl Jam…it scared me and saddened me.
Wonderful Life by Black. It just drips with loneliness.
“Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are” by Meatloaf. It’s that image of the “ghost airplane” that does it for me.
I can’t watch Blurry byPuddle of Mud . It just breaks my heart and I bawl like a baby.
I thought Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt was heartbreaking… because it sucked ditch water shudder
Coffee and TV by Blur. It brought tears to my eyes. I guess I must just have a hidden soft spot for little blue milk cartons. And Stan by Eminem - I had such a strong reaction to it that I couldn’t watch it again (nothing to do with my admiration or otherwise of the artist). Usually music videos that attempt to provoke a reaction like that really don’t work on me, but for some reason these two really did.
Old person checking in here. No snickering from anyone, but I always thought “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper was so sad. I know, it’s from a hundred years ago, so most likely nobody here has seen it. At the time it came out, I was taking care of a 17 year old boy who was my dialysis patient. He loved that song. Not long after, he died, so maybe I am just transferring my feelings of sorrow about that onto the video.
I knew this would be a thread about Coldplay’s The Scientist. Its the first video that came to my mind, but I don’t watch many music videos, so I can think of no others.
As I’m not much of a fan of contemporary music, I don’t see many videos. Though I’ve caught a few of Eminem’s, I’m not familiar with STAN or Coldplay’s THE SCIENTIST. Could someone give me a synopsis and why you find them moving? I’ll check out MTV one of these days, I promise.
I’m pretty much an emotional robot, but if I had to pick to pick a sad video it would be “All I want Is You” by U2. It’s the B&W video with the circus characters.

Seconded.
That runaway train video by someone I forgot.
That would be Sould Assylum Larz.
Like the others in the thread I’ll second Blurry by Puddle of Mudd & Coffee and TV by Blur.
Eminem’s video “Stan” was faithful up narrative of the song narrative. Very faithful.
Another vote each for Hurt and Stan (the first two that came to mind)
“I Wish You’d Stay” by Brad Paisley makes me cry everytime. It’s about someone you love leaving, and you can’t do anyting about it, you just wish they’d stay.
“Forever And For Always” by Shaniah Twain makes me sad too. I’m a hopeless romantic and it just makes me think “I want someone forever and for always!” I’m cheesy, I know!
Stole by Kelly Rowlands, that song always makes me weak.
